Frankenstein's Monster!

This one was surprisingly simple. Based on a promo image from Boris Karloff's original Frankenstein, he's wearing all black! Nice and easy. Also, in the promo still, Boris' face is more yellow thangreen, so I aimed for a much more yellow-tinged green to differentiate from, well, all the other green I did in this project. Very happy with his yellow eyes as well!

Fixed Dracula's eyes, I think. Much more threatening now that they're darkened.

Starting to block off the sections of the scheme.

I'll be following this with interest; nid's is one o them armies that i've never had a desire to paint but I am always fascinated by the schemes people come up with.

I can't say that I came up with this scheme; I think it's gonna be obvious pretty soon what I'm doing with them.

Looking good and spoopy in here. Are these going to be the coco crab spotty dotty nids? Colours are looking lovely and bright - are these just a single layer of contrast?

Hi tzurk! You got it in one, we're doing catgutt's coconut crab spotted 'nids! I got the test model done up here (good enough that I'm happy with the scheme and my handle of the technique).



That's not contrast for the darker colours - a brown-black and a red-black (I can't remember the name, but it's a layer paint). Then I did contrast Skeleton Horde over it for the yellow portion. Quite happy!

The hard part is done:

Lovely job on catbarfs sheme. They are awesome.

Catbarf has given such great guides and directions to doing his scheme, so I definitely can't take any design credit. But it is a very fun scheme to paint!



Did some bolder highlights on the carapaces (because why not spend way too long on horde minis), and the rest of hte shading and detailing (teeth, eyes, etc). I think the exposed muscles is a bit more subtle than I was aiming for, but not worth going back and redoing. I also tried to get subtly different shading on the gun body, the carapace, and the main body parts. Don't really think those differences came out as well as I wanted, but still.

That's some lovely patterning on their shells!

Aaaaaand, done! Basing elements and little extra muzzle-flash/worm bullets added. These give little sparks of colour to my otherwise camouflaged nids!

Thanks everyone! I was aiming for more red-to-pink, but it's surprisingly hard to airbrush moss and stopping it from flying all over the place so it ended up much more pink/purple. Still looks good!

I definitely look forward to expanding my Tyranids.

But first, my Flesh Tearers need reinforcements. And because my goal isn't necessarily working towards an actually functional list, the next unit will be a group of Reivers with carbines.



I got these from a friend (hence the interesting range of heads) and did a little surgery to stick grapnels on their backs, and to get new arms on the sarge. Because the Sarge in this unit can have a carbine as well as a knife, he's gonna be hte one with the shooting grapnel while drawing his knife. These guys are black done, and next gonna do some other colours before I go back to the red, clean up any overspill, and highlight it.

Main bodies are almost done; the red is highlighted (and looking good), the various heads are done (save for the eyes). Overall looking good!

Final touches time. Got some microsol and microset and it's wild how easy they made it to stick a transfer to something this folded!
