During the same war the Orks also built extensive siege lines both on the offensive against Imperial hives and defensive for captured hives. Literally thousands of miles of trench lines and fortifications. These helped them survive the Season of Fire.

Artillery warbands are also a thing, because Orks like big, loud guns and some Ork get addicted to them in the same manner as Speed Freeks addicted to going fast. Artillery warbands are often essentially siege units with slow-moving towed guns and built-in-place siege weapons.

GW has also made plenty of boards and dioramas highlighting Ork defences (some mentioned upthread). The Battle of Big Toof River springs to mind for me:

Well, it was published like 15 years ago now

Another good example is Fort Blackskar from the Tratican War:

I also just rediscovered this Orkified Imperial bastion from the Planetstrike expansion. Has a great shouting post

I remember some Ork bastions in White Dwarf converted from Stompa torsos. May see if I can find them later.

Found a pic of the stompa bastion:

I think there was a battle report showing off more.

Also orks are a brutal and hierarchical society with endless grots (and human) slaves at the bottom.

While some of the Boyz might want to go out and kurmp some 'eads the Warboss can think a bit more clearly and has the bosses and bullies to keep them in line.

Haighus, were there ever any pictures of fort like structures made from crashed vessels or fallen Ork rocks?

Found a better image of the Ork defences featured in White Dwarf, this is from 2009 during the Rok of Ages campaign report:

Hmm... I don't recall any GW terrain images of crashed Ork vessels or grounded roks (unless you count the Gorkamorka terrain).

There was this Ork orbital gunboat crafted for the battle report at the end of Apocalypse Reload, but that was intended to be a functional vessel being targeted in a boarding action:

And it was reused during the Rok of Ages campaign mentioned above. Technically this shot is of a docking station on the edge of the collosal rok, with the ship in a berth. Again though, the rok is still in space at this point.

Someone else may know of other Ork terrain featured by GW of crashed Ork vessels/roks though!

There are also these fortifications from the Apocalypse 1st edition rulebook I've finally dug out. These structures were created for an Eldar assault on one of Ghazghkull's factory complexes that were preparing for the 3rd War for Armageddon.

The first one is the fortified factory itself. Note the multiple gun turrets and ramparts:

This structure was the command post of the chief big mek, again festooned in gun emplacements and ramparts:

This image shows an example of the multiple flakka dakka guns defending the factory as well as a large, mobile Ork minelaying vehicle:

As a little extra, an Ork minefield from the 4th edition rulebook:

Oh, there is also this kit currently sold by GW I'd forgotten about:

Thanks for the deep dive Haighus! Is apocalypse reloaded worthwhile? I've got the first iteration and used it a fair few times already but was on the fence if I should try to find the update, be it only from a collector's standpoint so to say

PS what the heck those monolith are almost identically painted as my own lol

Hmm. Difficult to say. It has a much greater proportion of rules than the core Apocalypse rulebook it adds to, so if you are not interested in 1st edition Apocalypse as a game system it is a less valuable book. There is no section on hobby support for large battles, for example, because that is all in the main book and this was an expansion to the main book, not a replacement.

Having said that, the battle report is great, much better than the reports in the main book IMO. It has two linked games, one occurring in orbit on the space craft above. The ship is bombarding the battlefield, and the Marines are boarding it to prevent this. If successful, any surviving Marines can redeploy to the battle below. Very cool mission.
