Posted By Toreador 08/18/2006 10:27 AM Ah, another RAW thing. Again we have skimmed the rule and took it as a unit may attack any unit in base to base instead of a meaning "one" and so have been playing since this edition came out that they could split attacks.
Please read page 45 of the Warhammer 40,000 4th edition rulebook under the heading Multiple Combats. You will see that we did not 'skim the rulebook' nor did we misinterpret the rules. They are exactly as we have already stated. An Independent Character can not split attacks by the wording in the rulebook.

@ barontuman, Q: Can an independent character join a unit before deployment (e.g. in a droppod)? A: Yes It's a doozy of a rule change. Karandras can now infiltrate with his unit. Independent Characters can now deepstrike with units. But like I mentioned, there is no way to figure out how you make a reserves roll for a unit that is composed of two separate choices on the FOC. Let alone how this affects transports (Farseer attached to a banshee squad in a falcon?). - Oaka

Fortunately I don't think Karandras can be taken to the UK GT because he is one of the older special characters that needs opponent's permission, yes? - Oaka

Everyone is so willing to argue. Even what I said seemed clear to me, but was interpreted different.
Our group skimmed and assumed. Not you!
Yikes!

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. |

Like I said, we did not skim or assume. That is key if you are going to discuss the rules.
