FOR THIS POLL, PLEASE ANSWER HOW YOU CHOOSE TO PLAY THE GAME, NOT NECESSARILY WHAT THE RULES AS WRITTEN (RAW) SAY.

The Pinning rules on page 32 of the rulebook say: "If the unit fails the test it may not move, shoot or assault, or make any other actions in its following turn."

QUESTION: If a unit becomes Pinned in its own turn (for example, a vehicle destroys itself moving through difficult terrain or over a minefield and the passengers onboard become Entangled), how do you play this situation?

OPTION A. The rules as written (RAW): The unit may continue to move, shoot and assault THIS turn, but is unable to move, shoot and assault in its NEXT turn. If the unit Assaults an enemy unit THIS turn it loses the Pinned status.

OPTION B. The unit is only considered Pinned THIS turn: it may not move, shoot and assault THIS turn (assuming it hasn't already performed those actions yet). It is free to move, shoot and assault in its NEXT turn.

OPTION C. The unit is considered Pinned THIS turn and its NEXT turn: it may not move, shoot and assault THIS turn (assuming it hasn't already performed those actions yet). It also may not move, shoot and assault NEXT turn as well.

OPTION D. Something else entirely: reply exactly what it is below.

As a note to my reasoning for picking B (not that anyone knew that)

Pinning during your own turn will almost always only happen during movement (that is the only time I have ever seen it at least) so it means that you lose out on shooting and assault which seems appropriate.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

I agree with happypants (hey, there's a first time for everything...). You lose one turn's worth of shooting and assault.

Losing two turns is unfair; being able to move now but being pinned later in a different location from what pinned you is just plain silly.

Rule says 'its next turn', 'its' being possessive ie. the unit's next turn. The unit's next turn isn't the turn I'm on now, so they're pinned next turn, not this turn.

Reciting the Raw is hardly relevant.

Since we're playing 'relevance police' today.

I agree A is correct by RAW, but I feel that B makes more sense from a realism standpoint.

Optimally, I'd like to see it more like how knockdown is handled in Warmachine.
A pinned unit must sacrifice its next movement action, shooting action and assault action.

That way, if a unit becomes pinned in its own movement phase, it will not be able to shoot or assault this turn, but will only be forced to sacrifice its movement next turn and then will function normally.

Unless you play by the RAW in this case, of course.

Odd... I would've thought discussing what the rules say in a thread about how we follow the rules would be quite relevant. But nice try though Longshot.

Repeating the same exact raw argument that Yakface already made is hardly discussing the rules. If you were discussing them rather than repeating verbatim what was in Yak's post, sure, that'd be relevant.

If you play by Raw, you can say "I play by the Raw interpretation because it is Raw."

Whatever. You're king kong forum warrior and I am but a peon.

No Longshot but he did explain why he voted A Because its RAW just as others voted B because, well, it just intuitively makes sense. I voted C by mistake actually....HAHA foolish me, but I play it via B.

No, he explained why he voted A and then parrotted the same Raw argument. Which is not relevant. But whatever. I don't really give two squirts whether it's relevant or not, as it has nothing to do with the point I was trying to get across. Basically I was using some not-terribly-subtle forum warrioring to 'pwn' hbmc into not trying to bully me Sadly, I failed, and he still thinks he's better than me. Thusly chastened, I will proceed with asking that he rubber stamp my posts for relevance before I post them.

I think you are taking this forum a little to seriously. If anyone on a forum thinks they are "pwning" someone then honestly they need a reality check. Remember winning an internet argument is like winning the special olympics, you might win, but you're still disabled.

Vote C ... mainly because if you want to drive over a mine field you're asking for it (also difficult terrain only immobilise the tank)

Tri,

PLEASE STOP POSTING IN THE OLD 4TH EDITION POLL THREADS.

Many, if not all of those issues have been resolved via GW FAQ or as part of the new rulebook.
