Had the game day today with the kids finishing the game from last week. The game was a bit of walk over for one side (Inquisition led by Attelus Kaltos and Eldar led by Farseer Faleaseen both from Secret War) the Chaos and Infected Colonies didn't do well at all (I was playing Infected Colonies lol) which was a shame, but we still had fun. The kids who got their minis painted them with Speed Paint after I primed them white and they really enjoyed it might post some photos later.
I managed to fight the urge to assemble new minis and finished the Beastmen from my Blackstone Fortress box; I just have to base them. I batch-painted them, which I usually hate doing, but there were only four, so it wasn't too bad. Now all the antagonist minis of Blackstone Fortress are finished, I still have yet to finish all the protagonists besides the Man of Iron, which I'm considering re-painting anyway. A lot of them would be pretty cool minis for my eventual GF Inquisition List(s).
Broke my promise and decided to assemble the playable characters of Blackstone Fortress as, with most of the antagonist minis finished, I may as well do them next (also, they might make good agents for my Grimdark Future Inquisition force, as I said before). I was also wrong before, I hadn't finished all the enemy minis for Blackstone Fortress, as I still had the Chaos Lord leader to finish. So I assembled him as well!
A session of putting decals on airplanes turned into a frenzied session of putting decals on airplanes after I spilled decal softener all over the decals awaiting transfer.
Put decals on some imperial lightning figher proxies (de haivland vampires)
Finally got the sticks in and printed a bunch of sides for paint racks to organise my dropper bottles. Several drawers full of paints, washes, enamels andsoforth I can finally find without having to spend half my available hobby time wondering if I had that one color or not (hopefully also cutting down on buying doubles going forward)...
The other day I had an idea for an Autarch conversion for my Eldar.
So I'll begin working on that this evening.

I'm also going to build a box of those new AoS melee Orcs with the flails that just released.
I began and almost finished Amallyn Shadowguide from Blackstone Fortress, and I've gotta say, she's a fun mini to paint. I painted her in the colours of my Craftworld Dalorsia from Secret War rather than Biel Tann, which is the Craftworld she's from, so, frig it, now she's a different character. And I began to paint the Chaos Lord Obsidius Mallex, but he's also the same colours as my homebrew Chaos Marine Warband.
I've had an idea of making somewhat modular Dungeon tiles. Mostly to use in Skirmish games like Frostgrave and Rangers of Shadowdeep and the like. Over the weekend I decided to put my idea to the test!
Using Craft foam I got from the Dollar store I cut out rough 1" squares, glued them to a piece of MDF I got at the art store and just roughed up the foam with a pencil and rolled up Tin Foil. Leading to something looking like this as a test Tile.
Didn't look like much from the start but I proceeded to hit the whole thing with spackle to fill in the gaps then sealed it all with a mix of black craft paint and Mod Podge. Then applied my usual dry brushing technique for stone leading to this
I'm glad I did a test run as it allowed me test the technique and see some problems with how I applied it
1) I added the cracks with a pencil BEFORE applying the spackle. This lead to the cracks being filling which was not what I wanted, and I had to spend additional time cleaning those out.
2) I had to go and get another bottle of Mod Podge as the one I had was kind of thick even when mixed with the Black paint leading to chunky lines and streaks that the Dry brushing picked up.
Overall I'm happy with the results, I just have to apply it to something...bigger

However, there are many things to consider before manufacturing, such as the minimum order quantity (MOQ), price, and shipping fees (since I heard that China is a great option, so I need to consider shipping costs). Does anyone with successful publishing experience have any advice? Also, I found a company called Eastar, but there aren't many reviews to refer to. Has anyone ever cooperated with them before?

Back on topic: I made a lot of progress on Obsidius Mallex. He's very close to being finished. I made the mistake, though, that I primed him red, but to keep him consistent with the rest of my Chaos Marines, I painted his pipes black. and there were so many pipes it took longer to paint them than the gold trim, lol.
I also began painting the Rogue Trader Janus Draik and I'm looking forward to painting him so gaudy. So, so gaudy, lol.
I rattled out some titans for a hobby weekend to tabletop ready in 3 days (add a day for building and priming). I am panel lining these bad boys tonight:

Janus Draik is almost done. I decided to paint his face white like he'd powdered it and a red blush on the cheek. I kept going MYESSH the whole time I painted him because of the episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadephia where the gang re-tells the story of the cracking of the liberty bell to involve Patty's Pub to try to make it a historical sight for tourism. In the episode, Not-Mac and Not-Dennis dress up as dandies and try to sound British as they plan to change sides, and they walk down the street going 'MYESSHH!' Over and over, lol. Man, I love Always Sunny so much.
Maaaaaan did this take awhile. Between cutting up the foam, gluing it in place, running tinfoil over it all for texture applying the spackle and THEN carving out the cracks in the stone...
At least most of the work is done. Next step is to seal it with Mod podge and black paint. The actual act of painting it shouldn't be too difficult as its just going to be dry brushing various greys afterwards. I might even be able to get it all painted tonight.
Managed to do some painting today. I began on the Ecclesarchy dude and the Navigator dude from the Blackstone Fortress box. I got a fair way through both.
Tonight I'll:
●finish building that final unit of Skyshrouds
●find just the right arm for an Autarch conversion.
●then build some other small kit/single mini from my backlog - gotta keep chipping away at it.
Tomorrow morning, weather permitting, I'll get everything I've built this past week or so base coated.
Practically finished the Ecclesiarch and the Navigator for Blackstone Fortress. Also fixed up my Attelus on rock mini's face a bit. I also finally began making my Five Parsecs from Home crew, and I printed out the rulebook for Planet 28 2nd edition on a whim.
Project completed! One 2x2 dungeon game board. I probably should have given it a heavier drybrush to brighten it up more but I had absolutely destroyed my brush getting this done and this was the best result.
Will need to go out and get more supplies and plan on more expansions for it. But for now I can use this for Frostgrave, Rangers of Shadowdeep or even doing the Mines of Moria scenario for the LOTR strategy game (Although I'd have to finish painting my terrain for that one).
Just slapped down some walls from my AOS terrain box and it makes a pretty good skirmish dungeon setting. I'll have to fill it up with more scatter terrain, but I'm very happy with the results. Came out as well as I had hoped!
Completed my Blackstone Fortress minis just gotta base a few of them (yay!) Then began painting the Hero Forge minis of Marcel Torris (with shotgun) and Jeurat Garrakson (with autocannon) from Secret War and having fun with them! Looking forward to using them in my Grimdark Future/Firefight Inquisition forces and my Five Parsecs from Home crew!
Began basing the remaining Blackstone Fortress characters and practically finished painting Torris and Garrakson's minis. I remembered that Garrakson had a scarred-up face, so painted them on, which was good practice for it/when I get up the courage to paint on the big-ass scar on Attelus' mini's face. Also finished making my crew for Five Parsecs from Home.
Started the work on my converted Toxicrene here. Using spare Leviathan models (namely, Screamer Killer and Psychophage), I'm using those as a base and using the Toxicrene bits I have (from building a Maleceptor) to create one that will be easier to use in-game (ie: won't be triple as large as it needs to be).
The Maleceptor is magnetized but I wanted something a bit more permanent and different for a Toxicrene (because yes, I want to field one!).
In-between sessions of greenstuff for my Toxicrene conversion, I've took out and built my Contemptor for my Custodes. Got a (recast) Forgeworld variant with a bit more flair than the plain and ugly regular one, magnetized the arms (4 total), and modified the head a bit to make it not as space marine-y (filled out the grill to have a "knight-like" front like other Custodes Dreads, and greenstuffed a laurel on top of the helm).
It being the 1st Wednesday after the end of the school holidays, we had my mini wargaming club for the kids today. Grimdark Future: Firefight. One of the kids used the character he designed, and I made it in Hero Forge; had printed it, which he'd begun painting, and he was very happy about that. I made rules for him in the Army Forge Studio App, as part of a robot faction for the robot minis I have lying around the kids liked. So that was cool.
Afterwards, I made a lot of progress on my Hero Forge Inquisitor Arlathan Karkin mini, as well as a mini of Jarvus, both from Secret War. Jarvus was killed off literally in the first few sentences. But I made him because I was planning on playing a campaign of Planet 28 about Attelus Kaltos and his team during the six months before the beginning of Secret War but never got around to it. Might make him an enemy merc of something for Five Parsecs from Home and a random Throne Agent for my Inquisition faction in Grimdark Future/GFF: Firefight.

They're supposed to be Wayleapers armed with Reaper Launchers & Glaives.
But because I built them using Ranger bits, to better fit with my Eldari Rangers, there's no good way to attach wings.... :(
So I gave them each a bike & scenic base (WiP)to show thier mobility!

Oh, and an Illic Nightspear custom! - that's not made of Finecrap & costs insane $$ for a space-elf with sniper rifle.

Pretty much completed painting Inquisitor Arlathan Karkin and Jarvus today. I also began assembling a new not-Hellhound tank that arrived yesterday. The 3D printing wasn't quite the most, uhh, stable? But I managed to fix it somewhat, and it's a damned cool tank. I've gotta do my not-Chimera next, I guess...

Really just mixing & matching Autarch & Ranger bitz right off the sprues with a few simple cuts & trims involved.

No prob, too bad autarchs and such can't benefit from cameleoline cloaks and such.
Anyway, on a whim, I magnetised my flamer tank. It wasn't fun super glue all over my fingers yaddy yaddy ya but it was worth it. Began to assemble my APC too.
Playing ecw from Mike Lambo and mostly losing. Also played bb7s and lost 3-0. Feels like 7th edition whfb when I lost every weekly game at the lgs for a year 😂
Practically finished the medicae lady from the Rogue Trader lady's crew and began on the assassin chick. I think they'll make great members of my Inquisition crew. Trying to make them look like individuals despite their similar decor. I plan on doing the weird Tech Priest guy next.

Making bases for some Black Seas ships.
They'll be transparent 2 ply bases roughly the width of an old GW "horse base".
I'm making them 2 ply so that the little cardstock wake/speed marker will slot in the rear.
It looks cool but - I hate clutter on the board & find it annoying to constantly have to move that marker around with each boat. And a few seem to have been lost. :( This should solve all of that.
I'm going to start by using the plastic from an old poster frame.
If that proves too thick I'll just pick up a pack of overhead projector transparency sheets tomorrow & try again.

Hi all! Today I'm making a model for DOW Soulstorm. This is a model of the Imperial Guard fortress, (model of the capitol) which is controlled by the ruler of the planet or the general of the planet's defense forces. Built on the basis of an Imperial Guard fort and a mining bucket wheel excavator, from which the tracks and reactor were taken. On one of the mining worlds, open mines were exhausted and all equipment became useless; to save resources, such rotary excavators were rebuilt into fortresses and there was one in every city on the planet. This mobile fort is equipped with a large-caliber gun, 8 heavy twin bolters, 2 beam throwers against tanks and a hydra-type weapon to combat air targets. To maintain operation in peacetime, there are 2 plasma generators in the rear of the fort. At the bottom of the fort, along the edges, there are 4 bunkers for imperial infantry, which are isolated to prevent penetration into the interior of the fortress after placing 4 platoons of imperial guards in them. On the sides of the fort there are 2 gates for loading shells for guns and ammunition into the fort. In peacetime, this fort is located in a row with the rest of the buildings, but is hidden behind decorative facades; in wartime, it simply slides back, or the steps and walls of the fort are lowered underground, and the fort enters the battle!
It's been a few days since I posted here, so I completed the weird electric Tech-Priest dude for the Rogue Trader crew over that time. I then began the five soldier dudes and dudette. I painted a test mini and made his armour dark green or the not Caliban Green by Scale 75 with a Castellan green trim. But while it looked pretty good, I realised I just use too much dark green in my colour schemes, so I painted the armour a base of Mechanicus Standard Grey instead and kept the Castellan green trim, and I'm quite happy with how they're turning out. I wanted to finish them by the end of the day but couldn't quite get there. Next, I plan on painting The Good Boy and maybe the Rogue Trader, but I don't really need her for my Inquisition faction. After the Good Boy, I might assemble and paint the Navy Breachers from the Boarding Patrol, painting them in black with metallic armour and red trim to represent them as Inquisitorial soldiers.
Practically finished the soldiers in the Rogue Trader's entourage just gotta base them and fix up a few details. Happy with them, especially the officer dude who has a damned cool pose if you ask me; that's a pretty "old school" pose but still not dated.
This past weekend I completed 8 of my Battletech minis, only 10 to go before the current force is completely done.
Oops, I mean 12 to go before the force is done since I will be splitting a box of Urbanmechs with a friend.
Then, I primed a bunch of Reaper gravestones with a dark brown spray. Once they dried, I hit them with a zenithal spray of grey, and with this dry I painted the bases with a different potted brown. They look good from a distance but a bit of brushwork and some flock on the bases is required before they'll be done.
Primed a few conscripts for my IG. Didn't start tonight though, i'm pausing a little in this marathon of repainting my IG.
The conscripts are a mix of Bolt action spare soldiers with bitz from GW or project Z sprues. I paint them with a mix of civilians colours (mostly blue like some sort of jeans) and parts of uniforms like jackets with flecktarn schemes of the overall army.
i'm approaching the end, i've got a handful of conscripts, a few characters and a rocket launcher team. Then 2 artilery tanks. Then probably going to tackle my US army for BA.
Almost finished The Good Boy and the Rogue Trader Lady. I decided to paint her as I wish to complete the majority of the Boarding Patrol. I also assembled a few Mantic Robots I'd bought ages ago so one of the kids can paint them for the game day tomorrow. He asked me why the factions in 40k can't build robots to pilot from afar when they battle instead of fighting themselves. I said that the factions in 40k are pretty advanced but not in that way, but I do have some minis from a faction that does exactly that, which he was excited about. So I finally opened them and got onto assembling them, lol.
I've been writing some short pieces for our ongoing crusade. Had a couple of games, first against Eldar and another against Night Lords with my Guard army; the 39th Meridian Armoured let by Inquisitor Maxwell. Finally finished off Part 2 with the help of a good amount of Plymouth Gin.
It was Wednesday, so the kids' miniature gaming club day. But today, they didn't play games but painted their minis. One kid has a whole bunch of duck knights/nobles I bought for him, and the other a large robot, both from Etsy. They had a good time, and using Speed Paint/Contrast paint made it super easy for them. I'm going to take some photos of them sooner or later and upload them here.
Afterwards, I sorta began my Five Parsecs From Home campaign to test out the mechanics. I built the world, performed the Crew Activities and started the combat by being forced to fight a Rival due to one of my exploring characters stumbling into them; it was quite fun! I set up the battlefield but was too tired to start it properly. I got into Five Parsecs due to watching Guerilla Miniature Gaming's Five Leagues from the Borderlands campaign. It seemed a lot of fun, and the randomness seemed to build an interesting narrative. I also liked the way Five Leagues did melee combat; it was nuanced and interesting. I would play Five Leagues but don't have clearly enough Fantasy minis, so bought Five Parsecs instead as I have much more Sci-fi models. I was pretty disappointed when I read through the rules and found that FP has a different, less in-depth close combat system. So, I'm going to use the FL system instead, which doesn't seem too hard to transfer over, barring the more complex rules for melee weapons in FL than FP.
Painted up 5 Genestealers last weekend, then fell sick for the week, and slowly picking it up. Currently touching up some Fallout figures while getting back in shape. Having some Mole Rats and Feral Ghouls on my desk at the moment.
Just had a couple of test games of Five Parsecs from Home today after finishing painting my "Starport Scum" or Stargrave Scavengers. Was pretty fun.
Finally, I properly began a campaign with my crew inspired by Attelus Kaltos and other characters from Secret War. I finished my first battle, which was against a rival group of Starport Scum, who managed to spot one of my characters when she went exploring the Starport. They chased her, but thanks to some preplanning, she led them into an ambush, and I routed the enemy very nicely despite them having ten enemies and my crew just six. So much so that they gave up their vendetta immediately.
The next battle is against another Rival group as three of my crew managed to track them down, but they aren't the low-down scum of the last fight but a highly elite black ops group. I decided that because my crew were Hardened Rebels, they had taken part in a rebellion against an authoritarian regime which was toppled, the Starport Scum had flourished under the regime and wanted vengeance, and the Black Ops unit were a few remaining remnants of the regime and want revenge against any former rebels—the randomness makes the story up well so far, I think!
I've rolled up much of the encounter now, and while I outnumber them, it's only by one, and I can see the fight will be hard-fought. Wish me luck, lol.
Finally built some Intercessors. 10 of 'em, all from Dark Imperium.
Converted the Sergeant to have a power sword from the new Sternguard kit, and a DW pad, as most command positions in my Chapter (the Iron Paladins) are filled by those that have served with the Deathwatch.
I painted up the Stargrave mercenary minis for the Black Ops soldiers as well as a mercenary individual dude to fight alongside them in the next Five Parsecs from Home battle I mentioned earlier. A battle which I played today also, and well, as much as I was a bit intimidated by the elite black ops killer squad, the battle turned out to be a bit of a walkover for my team. A couple of my characters got a bit injured (Attelus would've been taken off as a casualty if I didn't have a stimm pack), but that was it. It even ended up with me ridding them as a rival (although I got another one again in the after-battle process, lol). Was quite a lot of fun! Also went through a the 3rd Campaign Turn and set up the next encounter, too.
I began and almost finished a duck mini I promised to paint for one of the kids at my TT Skirmish game club, and I call him...Duckiavelli!
I started Duckiavelli and another knight Duck mini. I also painted the minis for my next Five Parsecs from Home Encounter and fought it. I was victorious, but I became quite...frustrated mostly due to forgetting some rules and forgetting Attelus can move 6 inches (or 8 by dashing instead of just moving) thought playing it'd help me remember the rules more, but alas, lol. I might post some photos of that game in the "Post Pic of Your Last Game Played" thread.
Finally finished up Some Dark Elf Repeater Crossbowmen. First Unit is done!
My plan is to get 1000pts done, I will focus on getting the Core units complete first. Next up will probably be the rest of a 25 man unit of spears but I have the option of doing a unit of Dark Riders or another 10 man unit of Crossbows. Haven't decided yet.
All based and magnetized on their movement tray. Painted rather simply, quick and dirty highlights but it got the job done.
Yesterday I glued ground-texture to the bases of my Reaper cemetery fences and gate, also added glue to some of the wall foundations to give the appearance of vegetation climbing them.
Primed the two Urbanmechs I got from box split with my friend and began blocking colors last night.
Tonite I plan to add some watered-down glue over the ground-texture to firmly secure it to the bases, then continue with the Urbies and other almost-finished mechs in my force.
I did a lot more work on Duckiavelli and a Duck Knight, too. I had a ton of fun painting them!
I then decided I needed to find some minis to proxy for the Sand Runner creatures to fight against for my next Five Parsecs from Home Encounter, and I just couldn't find any. I don't have many non-humanoid minis, so as I was about to give up, I spotted my old box of Descent: Journeys in the Dark. Looked through that and found more than enough large spider minis to use. I then took seven (which I rolled), primed them Wraithbone and went over them with Casendora Yellow wash and one with red wash. Then, I played my next encounter, and while I was out of a crew member, the game was a big walkover for Not-Attelus and Company. It was fun. Now I'm on the fifth Campaign Turn and seriously now considering leaving the world they started on as now the crew have enough credits and are low enough on their ship loan not to worry about much. They're also a lot stronger too.
Wednesday today, so had the gaming club with the kids. They did some painting and played a quick game of Grimdark Future: Firefight one using his robot characters and a robot faction list I made for him. The other using his Ducks. It was ranged vs close combat, and it was close. The robots won because they had Fearless. I then got home and rolled up my next Five Parsecs from Home Campaign Turn and the Encounter. Would've liked to have played through it, but it was too late.
Didn't get to play my next Encounter of Five Parsecs from Home, but I began painting the antagonists of the fight. An eight-man "Brat Gang" who are sorta like the Necromundan nobles who go down into the underhive and hunt people. I rolled. They also fight alongside a "Hulker Brawler" that I'm using a cultist proxy mini from Proxy Wars to represent it. It was a corporate assignment, so I decided they'd been ambushing that corporation's convoys on the plant, killing the drivers and guards and taking the items. But now they've managed to get word of an attack while it was happening, so sent Attelus and his team to take care of it.
I also decided the Brat Gang had hired the Hulker Brawler for a mission years ago, but the Hulker Brawler stayed around after the completion of the mission and now, for all intents and purposes, runs the gang as the members of the Brat Gang are so terrified of him they now do their missions to gain money to get food to feed his insatiable appetite and whatever else he wants lol.
Was busy today, so didn't get around to playing the next Encounter of Five Parsecs from Home, but I did manage to finish the Brat Gang for the encounter finally. I tried to make them look gaudy to show they're spoiled, out-of-touch, horrible rich kids. But this morning, an idea hit me: paint them with horribly orange fake tans. I even painted the leader with light skin circling his eyes as he was the only mini whom I made helmetless. Next is the Cultist...I mean the Hulker Bruiser, lol. I'm running out of Stargrave minis; might have to buy more soon. They're great kits, simple to assemble and with nice details and all the arms from one kit can get glued to the torsos of another. Right now, I'm glueing rifles from the Scavenger's kit to the bodies from the Trooper's kit, which works perfectly.
My only problem is that the minis are only 25mm, and that's from the foot to the top of the head, which makes them seem minuscule compared to my other minis; this is exacerbated even more by their flat 25mm bases, but this is pretty cool as they're so small compared to the cultist mini it really emphasises the level of strength and power he has over them, lol.
Finished my 5th Campaign Turn of my five Parsecs from Home campaign last night; after finally finishing painting the enemies, it was pretty fun. Forgot the enemies had armour. But fate punished my huge faux pas by making my characters frig up; the Attelus-expy threw a grenade into a clump of five enemies and, despite hitting all of them, killed none of them. The odds of that were ridiculously low, lol. My Elandria-Expy also threw a grenade and only managed to take out two only because one had two stun points already. Still won, though.
I rolled up the next Campaign Turn, and, again, my Elandria Expy decided to be depressed (again), making me one crew member short. Then, when I roll up the Encounter, it turns out two of my remaining five are off the field, leaving only three, including Attelus, facing down six enemy renegade soldiers.
Also assembled some more terrain and a few Cultist Proxy minis that have been sitting around for ages.
Been pretty productive today. Didn't start my next Encounter for Five Parsecs, but I did assemble most of my Station Forge Cultists for my Chaos Army. It allowed me to glue a blade on a Cultist for my diorama finally (I bought 20, 10 for my diorama, Chaos Cultists, and 10 to use for gaming) that I hadn't glued onto it yet because I lost his axe and wasn't sure if I could give him another weapon. without compromising the ones for gaming, but it turned out I could, so I glued him onto the diorama after months of not doing it. so that feels a bit like an achievement.
I did more assembly of my Mantic Deadzone terrain and finally began assembling the Death Korp of Krieg minis from the first Kill Team box. I intend to use them as enemies in my next Five Parsecs From Home Encounter.
I finished assembling my Station Forge Cultists and assembled the needed number of 6 Death Korps of Krieg Kill Team minis (as well as three Station Forge not-Death Korps of Krieg minis that came with a tank I have yet to work on). I then primed them and another 40k ruined wall I bought from eBay, which I've finally decided I'm going to stick to my diorama and went over it with a black wash as well as a few bits of Mantic scatter terrain. I also started painting one of the Death Korps Veteran Troopers.
Built up a Deathstrike as part of my crusade narrative, aptly named "Peacekeeper".
Wanted to bulk it out a bit so it's not just a "Chimera with a big rocket" so I did the following:
- Moved the launch platform back, the space underneath bulked out with halves of the Storm Eagle rockets. The space in front taken up by a weird panel piece which doesn't seem to fit in any of the Chimera-chassis kits.
- Cut up a dozer-blade to make a recoil-space.
- The missile itself is magnetised. If I can find suitable parts I'd like to add a Guardsman riding it, Major Kong-style.
- Third-party track guards.
- The Manticore targeter added to the chassis with extra cabling made from fuse wire.
Trying to put more work into finishing some Dark Elves....but ran out of spray paint and I was too lazy over the weekend to pick some up at the Hardware store.
Fortunately, I have a pile of base coated minis sitting in a pile I really should get out of the way. So Dark Elves shall wait until I have time later this week to pick up more hobby supplies.
The least fun part of the hobby... organizing. We recently sold six AoS armies and a 40k one... awesome for reclaiming space, but pulling it out to pack/mail/etc, means the normally organized room is a mess. We basically need to reorganize twenty armies worth of stuff to use the space more efficiently, and make room for new goodies!
Had the game day with the kids today, there, they painted some minis, and I played a game of Grimdark Future: Firefight with one of them. A game I won, I was incredibly lucky with my dice rolls, though. But we had fun.
I then painted more of my Death Korps of Krieg and did more work on my diorama of Attelus and Adelana of Secret War, ambushing some cultists.
I'm picking though the League of Votann Kill Team models. I'll be working out how many to just glue, or spend ages allowing for magnetising options. 2 gun options for every model, plus KT specialists.
Even I have limits.
Despite maybe, maybe having sunstroke due to my father and I working almost all day in the harsh sun today, so feeling like crap (the last time I had sunstroke as a kid was one of the worst times of my life. It was during the holidays, and I swam in a pool...a lot, so the sun reflected into my face, and I spent almost all the holidays in a cold sweat and vomiting my guts out. It was up there with a horrible flu I got after walking three kilometres through the worst storm in Wellington for 50 years in 2010 and got soaked through the bone because I was a student and had no money for the bus. Had very vivid fever dreams. I felt like I was dying, and after that, in 2011, I got the worst food poisoning that had me bed-bound for two weeks straight in a haze. Only leaving to go either ones or twos or both at the same time. Sorry about my rambling, lol). I'm pretty sure if this is sunstroke, it won't be as bad as my time having it as a kid. I still forced myself to work on my Death Korps of Krieg, managing to finish almost two and a bit of work on my diorama. Would post more photos for the blog, but right now, even that's too hard to do, lol. I hope all of my fellow DakkaDakkites are doing well out there!
I've magnetized 4 complete WFB armies and am currently magnetizing my High Elves at work. Once done? Ashley's Lizardmen followed by my Skaven. From there it'll be a bit of a race to see who earns the right to be able to stick to movement trays. Or a steel lined CD in the case of Skirmishers...
One side-effect of having to spend time with nieces at stables due to their horse riding hobby I have become unable to paint all horses same colour so 5 knights and non-horse riding leader got 6 different colours for mounts.
Managed to finish up 2 Tyranids Warriors with Barbed Strangler. Didn't had any of those but now that we can have them in addition to Venom Cannon, I had to break some arms and re-arm a few models (thankfully I had some unpainted left).
Also did an extra base extension for my Pyro/Biovores. Had them all on 60mm, but got some 80mm to match the new size and magnetized them on top of those. Used some cork to help blend the bases together. Just waiting for an occasion to prime it, but we are getting into winter temperature here so it's getting too cold outside. Maybe if get one good sunny day I'll manage to get it primed.
I got these from FW shortly before they were discontinued - & then they were replaced by the new plastic HH kit.
I wish I'd known that was about to happen. I don't really mind dealing with FW resin, but I'd have preferred all plastic.... and I could've saved some $. Oh well.
More magnetizing. Also contracting out some movement tray 3D printing so that every army has its own movement trays, despite what my brother intends...
I finally felt well enough to do something other than sleep or lie in bed, feeling sorry for myself. I opened my new box of Tenfold Dungeon: Starship Vengeance and frig; it's much more solid and cool than I thought. I then began assembling my Storm Trooper proxies, "Galaxy Guard Elite", and the Marines Ravagers, uhh, more elite Storm Trooper proxies? One has a head sculpted to look like Sly Stallone and I'm impressed how well it was sculpted, so similar. By Loken's Miniatures. They were sent in one big baggie so assemblage is a bit more complicated, so I've been sorting out bits as I go.

Myself did some priming today as we had a surprising mild day, gotta make them count before winter! But by doing so I dropped my Custodes Contemptor Dread. Thankfully it broke at the joints and no sign of damage, but still a bummer!
Pondering wether it'd be better to round out my Drukhari with 2 Ravagers or 2 5man Scourge units (with darklances x4).
Either way these units will have the exact same job.
Sit in my deployment zone & darklance things to death at extreme range - while eating up as much space as possible to zone out enemy deepstrikes.

I'm mostly just building and painting what I have because I'm trying to get projects actually done. I'm waiting for more info before I commit to what I'm going to do for the Old World. After all, were still not 100% on all the base sizes.
So for now this is being built for 6th Edition or...you know, whatever I wanna use it for.

Yeah same boat here. Have some units that I could (and would love to) work on, but waiting for base size info before doing anything with them! Some unit I want to rebase (20mm were often too small to my taste and are already hard to rank), others unbuilt that I would put directly on the new size!
I got FW Deimos Predators #1 & 2 (of 3) partially built (the plastic parts) & fully cleaned up (the resin parts).
Once I get home this evening the resin parts get a hot soapy bath, fitted to the plastic hulls & base coated.
Overall I'm quite pleased with the resin pieces.
Nothing damaged, no pock marks/bubbles I need to fill & only 2 of the side panels are slightly warped (nothing that the hot soapy bath won't fix).
Here's hoping #3 is similar quality or better.
Finished my six out of ten Death Korps of Krieg minis that I needed for my next Five Parsecs from Home Encounter. That and a couple more Mantic terrain ruins for the game which I completed today as well. And despite my crew being only made of three instead of six and being outnumbered 2 to 1. They absolutely slaughtered their enemies, making the game a walkover. Not-Attelus Kaltos slew three of the six, two in close combat, which included their lieutenant, which marked him as MVP.
Inventorying a box of vintage (3e & 4e WHFB era) Skaven from the storage unit that surfaced while pulling out Christmas decor yesterday.
I knew they were in there somewhere....
I had my crew leave their starting planet in my Five Parsecs from Home campaign. I made the new planet using some of the extra rules in the expansion books (The Freelancer's Handbook and the new book The Fixer's Guidebook), Which has complicated the game considerably, but it seems to add more interesting depth, and I look forward to trying it out. I also set up the next Encounter and painted a couple more minis for it. I also began painting my Inquisition Chimera Station Forge proxy for my eventual Grimdark Future Inquisition army!
Didn't do too much today due to having to go to a nearby town for a check-up for my father. Just painted more of my Station Forge Chimera proxy. Then glued my Storm Trooper proxies onto bases and assembled a few more.
Had the kid's TT Skirmish game day today (I didn't have it last week as I was as crook as a dog), And I played with a kid against another two in a 2v2 battle. My side, well, the dice really didn't go our way much at all. In fact, three of my four Elf Clowns (or Harlequins) were dead at the end of the first round. My leader was in Ambush during that time. It was a bit of a shame. I didn't mind getting curb-stomped, but I felt sorry for the kid on my side; it'd have been nice if the game was a little close, for his sake, at least.
I then got home and played my 8th Encounter of Five Parsecs from Home, which, by contrast, was a complete walkover for Attelus Kaltos and his crew. They are now quite elite and were up against some poor backwater vigilantes, so it went exactly how it should've, lol.
It'll be a fair bit before the units are fully painted, but in the meantime I still need to be able to tell them apart.
So red bases, blue bases, & yellow bases. Keeps them easily distinguishable when near each other on the table.
Was tired, too tired for much hobbying, so I assembled my two boxes of Starship: Vengeance to make my Five Parsecs from Home Crew's Retired Military Patrol ship. It was pretty fun, and might draw a sketch of the ship based on the layout sooner or later.
I began painting my Storm Trooper proxy minis today. I've been painting them the Inquisitorial Storm Trooper colours, black and burgundy with silver dry brushing. They're really nice minis to paint, detailed but not too detailed.
Painted up a couple more Storm Troopers and also did a bit more work on my test model, who's now pretty much completed. I don't know why, but I decided to batch-paint all the other minis by completing the base painting on each one before using washes and highlights. Usually, batch painting isn't something I enjoy, but it's not too bad on these guys.
Started painting some Chaos Warriors but have been so busy lately I haven't even gone near my painting desk in a week. Hopefully I'll have time this week to get a little bit done.
Finishing up assembly on my Deimos Predators this evening.
I've also got to write up a list for our soon-to-start Escalation League. Make sure I don't need anything new for the 1st several games. Or if I do, that I have enough time for delivery & build.
(Why the shop insists on this league starting in Dec is a mystery. We already KNOW, from past experience!, that this will cause problems getting the initial games scheduled/played....)
Practically finished 12 out of 18 Storm Trooper minis and created a Grimdark Future: Firefight 300-point list for the kids to play for the miniature gaming club tomorrow potentially. They're led by a Hero Forge mini of Arlathan Karkin in all his power-armoured beady goodness, lol.
Tonight I start building a pair of Drukhari Razorwing fighters for my Escalation League list.
Play wise I won't actually need them for another (checks notes) 16 weeks.
But better to not wait until the last moment....

This week's miniature gaming club was on today, so the kids played another game of Grimdark Future: Firefight and Boy-oh-boy; it was a morass of chaos and combat. The kids had fun. Will post photos in the "Post Pic of the Last Game You Played" thread.
It was Attelus' team vs Arlathan's (2v2, though). I decided that Arlathan had turned to Chaos (which I have not so subtly foreshadowed might happen in Secret War) Because he was fighting alongside Chaos Space Marines and cultists so Attelus had to take him down.
When I got home, I did more work on my Storm Troopers and based them, so 12 out of 18 are pretty much done. Those Storm Troopers took part in the Grimdark Future: Firefight as Arlathan's men.
Began base painting my remaining Inquisitorial Storm Troopers but only managed to get through four of the six. Some new GW bases I ordered arrived so I stuck my other Storm Trooper proxies to them.
Painted base colours on my last few Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, then applied washes. I got most of the way through it but got bored as feth and am now in bed. Would like to play my next campaign turn of Five Parsecs from Home but I want to get progress on my mini painting.
I did a bit more work on my Storm Troopers and began basing them. I also based some High Elf Shadow Warriors I painted years ago to play with in Warcry. I also assembled a few new minis for Inquisitor Karkin's Warband for Grimdark Future.
Creating exhaust holes for my complimentary Epic scale Rhino I got from GW. It's proving to be quite fiddly but I reckon I should be able to make it work in the end. Drilling barrels for those cupola mounted bolters tho - fuggetaboutit
Did quite a bit of work today. Based my Inquisitorial Not-Stormtroopers, painted more of my Inquisitorial Not-Chimera and the Not-Hellhound, which I decided was requisitioned from my Death Korp of Krieg for Inquisitorial service. I also rolled up my next Campaign Turn and set up my next Encounter for Five Parsecs but couldn't find the energy to play it through. I also primed a few minis for Inquisitor Karkin's retinue.
I also started to make the crew of the Bebop on the Hero Forge app. Finished Spike, Faye and, despite some confusion, Jet Black. But then I went to make Ein, and...well...they don't have an option for a Welsh Corgi, which just invalidates everything. Hero Forge sucks, and must their main headquarters must be burnt to the ground. Lol, just jokes.
The shops Escalation League that's about to begin requires everyone to have at least 1 Battleline unit this time.
I rolled randomly to see wich of my forces I'd use in this one.
I rolled Drukhari - one of several forces that I actually don't have a single Battleline unit in my collection.
Almost finished an Orlock Armsmaster (the one with the giant shotgun) to make as a member of Inquisitor Arlathan's retinue for my Inquisition Army for Grimdark Future. Would've done more but too tired and spent much of the day cleaning my room.

Had a game of Five Parsecs from Home last night, then rolled up my next Campaign Turn so I've begun assembling the next enemy squad for my next encounter using the trooper box from Stargrave. Because they're so small in scale and their bases are so thin I also used Green Stuff to rise them up a bit on their bases to make them look less short. I also almost finished my last member of Arlathan Karkin's retinue.
Adding a unit of Dark Reapers to my misc forces tray of my Eldar
I'm finally building a box of Dark Reapers I took as part of a trade last year.
For as much as I dislike finecast, it does have a silver lining!
While it's usually super annoying to clean up it's also very easy to cut/trim/mod.
Wich in the case of these Reapers is a huge +.
Because I really don't like the stupid looking targeting fins on the Reapers heads.
Being made if finecrap though makes it's easy (if slow) to trim those off & keep the head/hair looking good.
If I were trying this on the metal versions of these models? It'd be way waaay harder. Maybe even impossible.
Finished 4 out of 8 Stargrave Troopers to represent the corporate goons my Crew will fight in my next Five Parsecs from Home encounter. I was going to batch paint all eight, but halfway through, I decided against it and batch painted the four instead, which I think was the right decision, even if I have to work on the last four tomorrow.
Finished painting the Stargrave minis for the enemies of my next Five Parsecs Encounter. I would've played it, but I spent too much time making a stupid meme about said encounter lol
Fixed up the Attelus on a rock like the old Chaos Terminator Lord a bit. I noticed the rock had some of the paint worn off, then I varnished it, so hopefully, it won't happen again. Then I completed my 10th Encounter of Five Parsecs from Home, and it was a ton of fun. Not-Attelus killed four of the eight Corporate Security enemies, all with his Auto Rifle, which is ironic as he isn't the best shot in the original material, lol. Might be to do with that I finally painted on a very basic OSL from his pistol's muzzle flare.
Began painting one of my Death Cult assassin proxies I bought off Etsy. I was hesitant to begin painting them as they're plastic and 3D printed, so the details weren't as distinct as a resin mini. While I was proven correct, it wasn't as bad as I thought, and I'm enjoying painting her a lot. Doing her in roughly the same classic colour scheme as the Death Cult minis from the old Inquisitor game.
Been working on Attelus' face as I tried to fix his eyes, but frigged that up, so tried fixing that, and it just escalated from there. I think I managed to fix it up, but not too happy with him now. I also began painting my 2nd Death Cult assassin proxy and I'm quite happy with her so far.
I did a bit more work on my 2nd Death Cult Assassin proxy and rolled up my next Campaign Turn for Five Parsecs from Home still got to fight the Encounter.
I finished my Death Cult Assassins today, based them and everything. A whole lot of miniatures I ordered also arrived today, so I've been assembling them and prepping them. I now have all the minis I need for my 2,000 point Grimdark Future Inquisition force, so that's pretty cool.
Finally managed to tear myself away from playing Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader so I can prime my new minis. I also started to paint anotjer Death Cult Assassin as a test mini.
Pushing myself back into the 40K hobby this last 2-3 weeks after a roughly year long break.
To sum up the last few weeks:
1. I did a lot of reorganizing of my hobby room. It had turned into a bit of a storeroom over the last year, to the point where I couldn't even freely move more than three steps into it. Got my paint racks set up, with my Pro Acryl, Scale75, GW Contrast paints all set up (and the GW paints all transferred into dropper bottles). May need to find somewhere to put another rack for my Kimera Kolors, don't really like keeping them in a desk drawer due to the whole "out of sight, out of mind" thing.
2. Played two games of 40K with a friend of mine so far. I like the current edition, but I sat out for most of 9th, so I'm not the best judge. Been playing since 2nd, so I've seen all sorts of things come and go.
3. Started assembling some of the Necrons from my old Indomitus box and Imperium magazine subscription. I already have a massive pile of classic 2E Necron Warriors, Immortals, and Destroyers as the core of my army, so I'm adding a few extra options to it.
4. Just got the last issues of Imperium yesterday, so I'm currently building Szeras for my Necrons.
5. Need to tackle more reorganizing of the hobby room. Get rid of all the worthless bulk Magic cards taking up space (keeping the good stuff). Get rid of my Hirst Arts casting supplies, probably sell the molds on Ebay or something and just toss the old plaster.
6. Start assembling the models that are all still in boxes. That's a lot. A lot a lot. *sigh*
7. Paint. Probably need to stock up a few more pots of the Contrast paints I need for my Ultramarines. I use a 1:1 mix of Talassar Blue and Ultramarines Blue (thanks, Juan Hidalgo!), as I don't like how dark the current UM color scheme is. I like the lighter blue of the old 2E Ultramarines. And while I have the Coat D'Arms UM blue, it's a pain to use. I'll probably use it on my vehicles via airbrush.
8. Still need to decide on a unified color scheme for my Necrons. They're a bit of a mismatch. The ones I painted years ago are green and dark steel. But I've picked up a lot on Ebay over the years to bulk them out, hence the mismatched colors. I just checked Ebay prices today on classic Necrons, and are they expensive now. I have almost $1000 in just Warriors alone.
I managed almost to finish three of my six new Death Cult assassin proxies. They're a real challenge for my fine motor skills, but I'm enjoying working on them. Once they're done just got to finish my Station Forge flamer tank, and that'll be my whole 2,000-point Grimdark Future Inquisition Force finished.
Forced myself to do some painting today and managed to mostly finish my 3rd new Death Cult assassin proxy. I've been too tired to do much, mostly because I've been staying up too late playing Rogue Trader. Should've learned my lesson by now, but alas. I'm not a binge drinker, but a binge gamer.
Taking a break from painting things to indulge in my true passion; deranged Ork conversions.
So I've taken it upon myself to make another Weirdboy, as my other one didn't fit the "everything Squig" vibe I'm going for nowadays. So he has a Squig hat.
Today will be the final building frenzy of 2023.
I will build:
●14 kits from my backlog (things I've owned more than 1 year)
●the rest of the Solar Aux 1/2 of my Legion Imperialis starter.
●the Imperial halves of 2 Aeronautica boxes.
●3 Wave Serpents
●all the new Necron stuff that arrived the other week
●both the Christmas grots
If I've got any glue left after all that? Then I'll continue building stuff until I go to bed....
Plotting out a Hobby Streak for 2024, where I want to do something Hobby every day of the year.
However, I have at least a trip to Orkney on the slate, so will have to factor in how I want to compensate for that. I’ll be flying, so taking paints, tools and kits feels impractical.
Mostly want to get myself painting lots. I figure aim for a unit a week, or for my growing HeroQuest collection, a Dungeon a week, with the idea that should be a comfortable way to breakdown the monotony. And I suspect there’ll quite swiftly come a tipping point where I have all the monsters painted for the main set, and I can then pile into the expansions.
And change it up week on week. So, week one, HeroQuest, week two, Legion Imperialis, week three Horus Heresy, then loop back round. Given my Heresy collection is significant, I think I’ll slot in extras to quieter weeks for the other two.
That looks too damn cool! Looking forward to seeing it fully painted!
Back OT, I practically finished my 4th Death Cult Assassin proxy and got a good way through the 5th. I also worked on the power blades of the ones I've already done.

OT, I finished, mostly, my Death Cult assassin proxies. I just have to apply some washes and base them. I would've liked to begin my flamer tank, but it took me longer to work on the remaining assassins than I thought. With them done, my Grimdark Future list is complete.
Currently working on a unit of Empire Swordsmen that have been half-painted on my shelf for about 3 years now. Going to get them done and magnetized as well as build a movement tray for them.
I've been working on a Great Unclean One I bought myself for Christmas. I've converted the other Greater Daemons in my collection so couldn't leave him out.
I've turned the Doomsday Bell into a chalice of sorts, plan is to use liquid resin to fill it with a noxious mix, about to pour into the freshwater on his base.
My friend came up from Wellington and today we played a game of The Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish Game and we had a ton of fun. I played the five man band of the main characters of the series and my friend the horde army of Jaroaite and Jaroaian extremists. My friend's rolls were terrible while mine were frigging fire, so much so I got frustrated on his behalf. So, yeah I won, quite a walk-over, but I would rather lose a close game than win with a walk-over, in all honesty. But we still enjoyed the game.
Preparing for Tallarn! No date yet, no location known yet, no scenario hammered down yet, but I have been told to prep my armoured might, because the Iron Warriors are a-coming and they are as lovely as ever.
High time to fortify myself and break out a Christmas gift, an Incinerator tank:
The only parts that were unusable in the kit were the trench rails, both way too mangled and bent to be of any use for this one, but as is, chuffed that it went together without too much of a hassle for once.
Commander is a placeholder and yeah, Tallarn is a toxic hellhole around that time, so the model sticking out of the cupola is more to denote this being a HQ vehicle than anything else.
My Station Forge Not-Death Korps of Krieg dead/injured minis arrived yesterday that I plan to place on my Attelus and Adelana ambushing cultists diorama. I primed them today.
I placed them on the diorama as a test. 1st, I scattered them about as if they were killed in a fight...

I'm thinking of freehanding a Chaos star with Blood for the Blood god, around the dead bodies or half of one, as the ruined wall is necessary to the ritual for a reason I don't know yet, and Attelus and Adelana are attacking to stop it. I'm not sure which way to go; I'm leaning more toward the ritual idea. Which one do you guys think looks better/is better for the diorama's narrative? I'd really like to know.
Finished painting two more dead Station Forge Not-Death Korps of Krieg for my diorama and started work on my Asurmen proxy that's been sitting around primed.
Old World has given me a painting bug. I've been going through my minis and finally working on projects that have been piling up. Currently refreshing my old Empire army by repainting my old Empire General and wokring on a unit of Swordsmen I've had half done for well over 10 years now.
Swordsmen still need work but I finished my General! An Averlander from the Mordheim release. These models always had the proper large hats and puffy sleeves needed to properly represent Averland!
Started and finished 12 teensy Contemptors, rounding off my Demi-Company formation.
Also took the chance to base spray my 6 Predators ready for tomorrow, when intend to blitz the lot of them. Still need to spray their alternative turrets (kit comes with double turrets, which is nice).
I may however revisit the Contemptors. I think the left knee pad needs some light grey, to help add visual interest and break up the predominantly black colour scheme a little.
Made a bit more progress on my Asurmen proxy mini and a pretty big step on my "Attelus and Adelana from Secret War attacking Cultists" (working title, lol) Diorama. A step it took me ages to work up the courage to begin.
Assembled seven of the twenty minis of the Crew Starforge box for vigilante enemies for my next Five Parsecs from Home Encounter. I also applied a lot of Milliput on the top of their bases to give the illusion of not being so much shorter than Attelus and his fellow crew members.
I then did a bit more work on the Asurmen proxy. He's looking quite nice now. I would like to freehand this symbol on his flag.
But don't know I can be bothered or have the skill. Especially when trying to replicate it on each side, but I would like to do the awesome mini justice, so maybe?

Anyway, yesterday, I began painting the Stargrave minis, three of the seven. Most of them are helmetless, so using them to practice painting skin before working on minis I actually care about. Painting skin, especially pale skin, is a skill I just can't seem to be consistent with. I also practically finished my Maugan Ra proxy, which didn't take long at all, just some dry brushing, etc.
Today, I didn't do much due to feeling unwell and fatigued to hell and back, but I eventually made myself finish base painting the four remaining Stargrave minis, everything except for their skin, with the exception of one. Hoping to finish them tomorrow.
Today, I finished painting my Stargrave minis for enemies for my next Five Parsecs Encounter, which I played through it was the most hard-fought so far. Now, a civil war has begun on the world, or maybe, I'm thinking of re-rolling that with a story point.

I don't play GK. Never have.
I don't recall ever having an idea for a conversion/kitbash involving a NDK....
I've never considered it to be just a "cool model" to have.
I have no recollection of ever buying or trading for this kit. Or receiving it as a gift.
The date on the (then) local shops price tag puts is marked 2010.
Is it possible for ones pile-of-shame to reach critical mass & begin self replicating??

He's my favourite edgy boy I have in my collection so far, much cooler than my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle looking knife guy in my Corsairs. I also worked up the courage to start freehanding one side of my Asurmen flag using that painted version I shared a while ago as a reference. Too bad I frigged up and accidentally did it in reverse. Oh well it,'ll make it a bit different, I guess. Note: I've done another layer of yellow since I took these photos.
He's a really nice mini; I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. With him and Maugan Ra done, that'll be all the official Phoenix Lords done! I made rules for them for Grimdark Future, so one day, I might be able to play with them. Emphasis on might, lol. Here's the link to the list if anyone is interested.

It felt too busy having more of the cream down at the bottom with upwards jags...so I obliterated it with a black rectangle, and will be adding the cream onto that as hexes or diamonds.
I assembled my four remaining Death Korps of Krieg Kill Team from my Octarius box as I made a new Grimdark Future 2,000-point Inquisition list with them in it, and it took me way too long to do it. Each mini had too many individual parts, and for a newish kit, it had a lot of mould lines, and they were even more distinct than my old Dark Angels veteran kit. Nice looking models but damn GW.
Also primed them and a few other minis and did other odds and ends. Didn't try to freehand my Asurmen's flag. Might try tomorrow. I'd almost finished Maugan Rah, so I'm on the cusp of completing all my Phoenix Lords, so I may as well keep trying.
Began painting those Death Korps minis and worked more on a couple of Station Forge Grim Guard crew minis that came with my tanks and APC. It'll be another team the kids can choose to play for Grimdark Future: Firefight on Wednesday gaming night.
I finished my Death Korps Kill Team, and the tank crew just got to base them. Quite happy with how they look, but I've got to go back and re-highlight the six I did earlier, as I used a much brighter blue on the four new ones, so they don't mix well. Also did a little more painting of my Maugan Ra mini.
Based on my Storm Forge Grimguard, as well as re-highlighted the old ones to be in line with the new four. Now the force is finished, which is pretty cool! I wonder if I'll ever get to play it :(
I was thinking of painting some Hero Forge assassin chicks that've been around for a good while. Use them to practice skin for new versions of Anargrin (from the Angaran Chronicles my fantasy/dieselpunk/spy-action thriller novel series I self-published as I have been making and playtesting a TT Skirmish game that's in that setting and Attelus. But, I knuckled down and began freehanding the sign on my Asurmen proxy, and I think it looks...okay. Not too bad. I'm not looking forward to painting the Ying Yang symbol on the shield and I'm really not looking forward to painting the Eldar hieroglyphs on the beige stripe near the bottom of the flag, lol.
I...finished? The freehanding on the Asurmen proxy's right side of his flag, I might fix it up again. It's gotten a bit textured up, but I'm still pretty happy with it. I'm liking GW's Grey Seer more and more. It covers exceedingly well and makes a great mid-tone for 'white.' It really helped me out a lot. For the hieroglyphs, at first, I used my Scale 75 black paint, but it didn't work well, so instead, I tried out Abaddon Black, which is much thinner; it worked much better.
I also began assembling my Genestealers (the new one), and it's much easier and simpler than the Death Korps with very few mould lines and those that are there are quite well hidden. I started on them because I realised school holidays are almost over, and the kids might like to play as them for Grimdark Future: Firefight, and if I ever play Five Parsecs from Home Bug Hunt they might work well in that game.
Finished this units of Swordmen thats been a half done project sitting around for the last 10 years. Now finally done and ready to use! Although now I have to get a different movement tray for it for Old World.
With the new 3.2 update of One Page Rules games, I've been trying to "balance" my custom-made Grimdark Future factions on Army Forge Studio, which seems like the system is a bit baulked, in all honesty. Hopefully, OPR will fix it. I also began free-handing the other side of Not-Asurmen's flag. Got quite far through it. Sorta reminds me of the Prince from the original Prince of Persia game, lol.
I assembled more Genestealers, too, although I frigged up and glued the wrong arm on one, but it's not too bad.
Finished the other side of the flag! Could fix it up a bit, but for now, it's done. Now that's all six of the main Pheonix Lords finished. I might upload photos of all of them later.
Was busy with 20 sisters of the watch (aos) .. their hands and gauntlets, will then do their bows, then their bodies will be done and I still need to do 20 heads and 20 quivers (not doing the swords, i think quivers look better as they are archers)
It's by far the worst job I've ever had to paint and will never ever buy 20 units of anything else I learned that from this.
Probably will be put on hold again though when next month starts for the challenge thread.
I finished assembling my Genestealers (I assembled them with the Ymgarl heads or the Cthulhu/Zoidburg heads, because, obviously) and primed them. I was going to paint a test model but found I hadn't quite primed everything, so I decided to forget about it for now, too tired. I also primed a few other minis here and there.
Also, here are my completed Phoenix Lords. The only GW one is Jain Zar. Karandras, Asurmen, Fuegan, and Maugan Ra are proxies by Major Minis on Etsy. Baharroth is made by Proxy Wars.
Not much today, in all honesty. My awesome Gaunt's Ghosts and Gaunt proxy minis, which I ordered from Etsy ages back, finally arrived. I had a look at the kit and glued a few things together. I'm prioritising writing Secret War: The Annihilation Plague over hobby stuff as I'm almost finished it.
It has to be one of the darkest and most brutal ending of those stories so far and that's really saying something, lol.
Ordered a second display cabinet, as they’re 20% off (monster monster monster!)
And later? Start the drybrushing stage of my 120 Heresy Infantry Marines. Want to get at least 60 of them done. Maybe a mix of units, maybe all the Tactical Legionnaires.
Certainly want to get one, ideally two units done by the end of the weekend.
I painted four Genestealers, so six have finished so far. I want to get all ten done by next Wednesday so the kids can use them. I'm using Flesh Tearers Red contrast paint on the carapace and the GW blood wash, which I've drawn a blank on what it's called on the rest. I primed them with Wraithbone, it doesn't look half bad. While this way of painting is quick and easy, I just don't enjoy it much, and I don't know why.
Finished painting my Genestealers to a tabletop standard, just gotta base them. I also finished assembling my Gaunt's Ghosts and Gaunt proxies. Had fun assembling them, actually.
Maintained my larger than average discount at the shop today.
I Sold a fellow player a 30k/40k Sicarin + a Kratos by showing them where thier 40k rules were in the Legends section.
The players building SM in Legion Imperialis & really likes those tiny tiny tanks. And he plays SM in 40k.
He commented he wished tose tanks had 40k rules.
Me: "Yes. Yes they do! Let me show you where (pulls out phone)".
Twenty minutes later the players bank account was lightened & he had 2 new projects.
Player to staff: "he's so good at costing people $"
Staff: "that's why he gets the discount he does"
*We play in a Legends friendly environment. So those tanks are going to see a good amount of use.
