Currently I'm mucking about with Homebrew so Undead Leviathons faster generic Undead Creatures than Undead Abominations. In Warmaster a Sphinx is a rough equivalent.

Well I'm managing to lose the game I've wrote myself. Managed a full 2000pts and me and my opponent had a great time. Sadly enough Baron Westmarch got horribly butchered by the pair of Undead Abominations and the human wizard ended up blowing himself up after losing a magic duel with the necromancer. Powerful magic abounded and the Dark Shadwow grew with a well deserved win for the Undead.

This is a stompy smashy huge moment for Da Waagh! It's Alta is done but first well I'll tease you with other stuff.
This Hangar is a simple bodge from DIY ducting easy and affordable usually it would be a bout a quid for 2 but I managed to get them when they were reduced to 5p and brought loads.

This Lineman is from the wyrdstone Wanderers these are swiftly getting painted.

These Harpies are my Rapier Miniatures models based up to use as Furies for Net Epic

Furies don't actually have rules but I'll bodge some.
Finally here he is the star of my Ork collection Da Alta of Da Waagh

I've got a game of Net Epic tomorrow and It'll involve him and my 3 Great Gargants against an army Waaaaaghhhhhhh Smmmaaaaasssshhhhhyyyyyy!!!!!!!

My appreciation of Rawl Plugs is as everybody here knows rather high and here is my latest set of Rawl Plug related masterpieces.

Drop Pods each made from a Rawl Plug and a Screw Cap 14 of the things for under £3 with plenty of spares for other projects. What other types of projects. These things

I'm particularly happy with the transmitter tower based around Rawl Plug bits a Cocktail Stick and some cable clips.

On a none Rawl plug related note heres some marshes.

Pizza Foam and the sawn edge from insulation foam painted brown with the edge flocked. Then a coat or two of PVA is applied to the lumpy bits with some brush bristles as reeds.

You've certainly grasped the art of getting a good variety of uses from the good old rawl plug My first thought was you'd gone back to space with some stations....

And you're right, the transmitter's great.

Thanks Skalk and Monkeytroll. Sometimes I'm tempted to turn this blog into 101 uses for Rawl Plugs. Also talking about getting back into space I had a game of BFG recently and lost badly. Maybe a Space Hulk would help hmmm for next year. There's also some really nice none GW spacecraft out there....Maybe in the future I'll do some more space ships. Sadly enough through the Ork fleet has two serious flaws they are both close ranged and slow which frankly combines to make them arguably the worst fleet in the game. Frankly I didn't even scratch the paint of my opponents Ad-Mech fleet for 4 ships crippled on the way in.

As you may know I've been part of the Tale of Epic Gamers 2013 with my Word Bearers as this is coming to an end I decided I needed to take some photographs to show where the army now stands. Heres where I was back in April.

Not particularly impressive but a reasonable sized epic army.

Heres where I am now.

A good bit of progress I believe. It's at about 26000 points and gives me well over 65000 points of painted Epic nowhere near the Primarch load but fairly impressive. I've got some more shots as well of each army element.
We'll start with the basic Word Bearers and Undivided Titans

Most impressive part of this force is arguably the 45 Rhinos with another 18 Land Raiders and 12 more tanks its got the most armour of any element of the force.

Continuing with Undivided we'll go to the Human Renegades

25 Stands of Chaos Squats are arguably the most interesting piece although the Decimator and Ragnaroks are my favourite element.

Beastmen next

The Beastmen include over 40 Minotaurs all the one piece Epic Version and a bunch of more interesting Rapier beasties.

We'll go through the gods in the Net Epic book order.

So starting with Khorne

The high point here is Verum Irae the only one fo the God Squad to have received paint. Lots of Juggernaughts and Daemon Engines here with plenty more on the way.

Nurgle next

The most neglected of the Gods in Epic the lack of plastic cavalry makes them the smallest host. Plague Towers are needed here.

On to Slaanesh

This host is going to expand the most next year with the Knight bashes getting paint and more of them getting produced.

Finally we move to Tzeentch

I like the evil anemone's Really fancy adding a few flyers to this host.

The nice thing about 6mm is how quick and simply it paints I an do a sprue of 6mm in a days here and there painting easily and it adds up over time.

...

Wow. That's all I can find to say. The last time you posted a full army pic it was (to me) an unbelievable force. These pics give me some perspective for just how massive and broad a planetary war zone would be.

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war indeed.

Definitely its why I enjoy 6mm a small Epic game can show a proper size battle for a city or a decisive engagement. You can actually command a true battle with manoeuvring artillery and sensible feeling air strikes. It has a scope which Apocalypse still lacks in my opinion. 40k allows you to play the battle for Pavlov's House Epic allows you to play Stalingrad.

Got a few more bits and bobs to show.
This is the Microworld Games Undead Chariot

I've been continually adding basic stuff to both this and the army of New Haven as well.

I've got a couple of Prussian figures done.

But finally and most importantly I couldn't resist finishing of the God Squad

Verum Vesanium is based upon my badly painted 2nd hand Warlord leaving my fresh unarmed but on sprue Warlord for the planned Imperial Force. The head is a spawn head with bead eyes. The right arm is an Inquisitor Chaos Cultist Plasma Arm and the right shoulder mounts a Quake Cannon based around an Autocannon Rawl Plug bodge. The left shoulder mounts a Titan missile based on a Hunter-Killer Missile while the Doomfist is based around a Chainfist arm with a grenade launcher and a Chaos knight lance as the business end. These 4 have been excellent fun to convert and I'm looking forward to painting them. I'll be adding more Warhounds as well. The Slaaneshi Scout Titans may well end up being based on Dark Eldar Scourges of all things and I'm wondering about using War Machine bonejacks as well. Equally I won't be buying much more at all for this force. Next year it'll be an Imperial Army for the Tale of Epic Gamers. I've got a bunch of armour and flyers on order from Troublemaker Games and I'm planning on using Brigade Miniatures vehicles. The infantry are either going to be SEM Militia or Bacchus WW1

Great news got the first bits and bobs for a 6mm IG army from Brigade Games for Christmas. I'll be using Neo-Soviet tanks and they are lovely casts and about the right size for epic and best of all at a 1/3 of GW prices. I've also got a big batch from Troublemaker Games kickstarter and I'm hmming and hahing about infantry. Currently It's a toss up between Bacchus WW1 and SEM militia.

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2013/12/28 22:53:50

Post by: Llamahead

Been thinking more about what I want to do with the IG roughly what I've got at the minute is three of the packs of Brigade model tanks which give me 12 Leman Russ Equivalents, 6 Destroyer Tank Hunter Equivalent, 6 Thunderer Equivalents, 6 Light Tanks which don't fit but would be perfect for Salamander Scouts (which aren't in Net Epic and therefore their earmarked for Hellhound conversions, 6 Tankettes as Sentinels, 2 Hydra Equivalents and 3 Command Chimera's. I've also got a bunch of Epic IG plastics Sentinels, Commissars, Ratlings, Bikes and Rough Riders which I didn't paint up for the Word Bearers. I'll have to take stock of these at some point. Oh and 2 Epic 40k Deathstrikes I brought when they first existed unfortunately I don't have the 3rd. Some of my mother lode of titans brought last summer will also drift in to this project.

Coming from Troublemaker Games are 10 not Crassus's and 4 Spitefire's (fighters) Definitely for this army. As well as that I've got Cybershadow Regulars and Heavy Cyborgs as well as the Support Weapons. The plan was to use the Cybershadow Regulars as Cultists for my Word Bearers which is still going ahead. Originally the Cyborgs were going to be used as well Cyborgs from the PDF list but if the size is right they may end up being used as Ogryns as well. The Support Weapons will be painted as servants of the Mechanicus and as I've chosen Word Bearers colours can be used for both forces. The leaders and menials will make rather nice Engineers and Adeptus Mechanicus models. As well as that I'm still waiting for a Defeat in Detail box set possibly to be used to make more cultists. I'll have a look and if I like what I receive this may be the primary source for models.

Thinking about this I obviously need 2 things-a coherent theme currently I'm hmming and hahing about doing something with the idea of Ladysmith and Hrin from my other 40k blogs and producing an army which looks like an army group rather than a cohesive regimental force. Baccus does nice 6mm Zulus so that's an option. However I want the army to be primarily armour and mechanised which doesn't fit with the 24th Islandlwanda. Ideally I want something similar to the traditional squad of each type style of 2nd Ed guard army but in Epic. I'll be buying far more new for this army and therefore the purchases will be thought out.

The other obvious need is core infantry this is suffering from both the fact theirs quite a few available and that the 3 most interesting options, Baccus WW1 (C-in-c and GHQ historicals are too small in my opinion), SEM Militia ad Troublemaker Games plastics aren't yet on general issue. This means I can't make an informed decision.

Yes sorry for the lack of pictures but I'm at my parents and my camera is in Sheffield.

This is the stelae in the cathedral of the Imperator Victorious on Hrin containing the initial muster of the 37158 Army Group

I'm not planning to make all of this of course the Idea is to create a framework to theme my army around. I am however planning to create an army group force containing a diverse assortment of troops and vehicles. Ideally eventually I'd like to produce a formation for each element on here but that'll take a while. I'll admit to playing with graphics as I need to do this to produce something to be proud of for After the Cataclysm.

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/01/03 17:42:38

Post by: Llamahead

Well I got enough of a tax rebate to splash out and so another large order of Brigade Armour is on the way. This'll include Artillery and Half Track APC's giving me a relatively balanced armour force. Equally it's lacking on Infantry. My inability to reach a decision is beginning to annoy me currently due to price as much as anything the WW1 infantry from Baccus seem to be the way to go. I've also got bases to pick up I'm currently planning to buy lots of Warbases MDF 40x15mm as I don't want my guard to look like a horde but instead a disciplined firing line, if my vehicles seem to small against the GW vehicles I'll also base them up. My paint scheme for the armour is currently planned to be a Shadow Grey/German Grey mix. I'll probably do banners on the computer like I've done for the fantasy humans. Currently the crusade badge for vehicles is going to be picking out some parts depending on type in Electric Blue top hatches certainly and others as I feel like this colour will be used on all my loyalist vehicles regardless of regiment.

More planning as I'm still down in Suffolk without materials. This blog includes most of my projects I plan to do stuff with and I'll go through alphabetically by system.
6mm Fantasy
I need to play more games of this and see whether I can get more interest. I'd like to try and get a practise game to the Joy of 6 but that's unlikely as it needs to be fairly fully play tested. However the Humans and Undead are both at roughly the size I want them all I have to do is paint them. I'm planning on adding more armies at some point. Another plus point for 6mm is that armies are at a similar purchase point to a Warhammer Regiment. Equally that might just say bad things about GW prices.
Aeronautica Imperialis
Haven't played in ages and my Ork Fighta Bommas for my Epic Orks mean I've got a nice force now.
Battlefleet Gothic
Play more games. Maybe add a Hulk and a Battleship at some point.
Blood Bowl
Paint team and relearn how to play. I'm half way through the painting and should start challenging people to the game. Oh and find some block dice.
Dystopian Legions
Finish painting up the Landswehr and Luft Lancers and play some games
Epic Chaos
Paint stuff and make up the Knights. Then add the flyers. I'll be adding quite a few more infantry still and have a bunch of monsters and vehicles to add.
Epic Orks
I didn't think I needed more Orks I'll paint what I've got and possibly add a Mega-Squiggoth (big toy dinosaur) If I hadn't already spent far too much on the kickstarter I'd be adding some of Troublemaker games wonderful Skinner character models and I've still got the plastics on order.
Epic Imperial Guard
New project got loads of armour coming and I've wittered about it enough.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Forgot something Epic Scenery. I'd like to do a barracks complex for the Riveters competition as well as adding a bunch of industrial pieces and a trench set. For the more fantasy side of thing an evil temple and a castle make the list.

Finally Pictures just a bunch of shots to give you an idea of the size of the vehicles I'm using. Thankfully they'll be fine but I reckon they'll need bases to work at their best. I've also been through my stuff as I'm back in Sheffield and I have a Bike Company, Assault Company, Sentinel Company and Ratling and Sentinel Platoons available. Irritatingly I have 2 Leman Russes and 2 Deathstrikes (When I brought the Deathstrikes it was for Epic 40K and I'm in need of a third).

Been getting some more Epic Terrain done and dusted two Workshops

and this Industrial Dohickey probably a chemical Refiner

Got these two Prussians done since I last put any Dystopian Legions up just basic Landswehr

I've also got the first of my 2 Mammoths done. A lovely model and really easy to paint as it's just bone.

I've also got several more of my Brigade vehicles assembled and heres another scale shot.

The vehicles are from Left to Right Land Raider, Volk Assault Gun, Battle Wagon, Laska Tankette, Leman Russ, Rosomakha Light Tank, Rhino
I've also got the first unit painted. These 5 Sentinels are B Troop 29th Company 511th Hrin Artillery.

The Command Sentinel has an antenna made from my spear fencing and they all have a blue card triangle mean't to represent an Aquila on them. I'm happy with the camo scheme as the Shadow Grey and German Grey make a decent dark urban camouflage which doesn't look like unpainted plastic.
Oh and real life might be becoming more interesting I've just applied to do a Distance Learning Masters in Archaeology and Heritage.

Got one of each of the different types of Brigade Vehicles from my first order assembled so here's another scale shot.
From left to right we have a Battlewagon, Lisa Command Vehicle, Land Raider, Rhino, Shershen AA & a Leman Russ.

I've also got my bases from Warbases through this week. Very swift delivery arriving within the week as well.
As well as that I've got D Platoon of 21st Company 232nd Hrin Infantry finished. As you can see the 21st are an Assault Infantry Company. That means IG with jump packs. I've picked out some details on the Section HQ in bright blue so he stands out this will run through all the regiments of the Army Group. The 232nd will also be the recipient of most of my current forces. I'll discuss it's composition in detail when I've finished a company.

First of all I've got a Bat Swarm done these are designed for 10mm and are therefore man size in 6mm.

Nice and simple to paint to.
I've also painted a converted commissar with jump pack to go with my guard assault troops.

These Sentinels have also received paint

I've also made the decision to use SEM infantry for the Hrin force it'll fit well with the old 40k stuff and has a nice clean science fiction look.

Just had a great day for receiving new toys. Graven sent me a Warmaster Chaos Dragon without wings which is either a) getting engines to make it a Heldrake b) will be left for a while and receive Scourge wings when I buy Scourges to make Slaaneshi Titans. Other than that my order from Brigade Models came in 2 more tank companies one of which will be modified to the Leman Russ Assault Company so Comqueror, Executioner and Vanquisher variants, 4 artillery companies when the mortars come from PFC and the armoured vehicles for 2 Mechanised Companies, these are Suwalski half tracks. This'll give me well over a hundred Brigade Model tanks and only one company of infantry in my guar army.

As I've finished the first company except the banner I'll give you the regimental background
511th Hrin Artillery
COMMANDER Colonel Hadrian Iactus
DOCTRINE Artillery
FORMATION
1 Command Company
20 Artillery Companies
5 Infantry Companies
3 Armour Companies
2 Cavalry Companies
10 Logistic Companies
BACKGROUND
The 511th like most specialist Hrin regiments have come from several PDF divisions from the same hive complex. Hrin artillery regiments are designed to be able to spot and secure themselves from the enemy.

29th Company of the 511th is a scout walker company. These are fairly rare in Hrin regiments most scouting being done by bike troops.

I've also got C Platoon of 21st Company 232nd Hrin Infantry done

Along with this I've also finished of Green Platoon D Company 3rd Gerwent

3rd Gerwent is a Ratling Regiment.

Some good fun stuff for you today. I've created my first Biz-quisher. That's a Leman Russ Vanquisher from a Bizon tank simply by adding a Las Gun muzzle to the muzzle of the cannon simple and effective.

I've also painted up C Squadron 22nd Company 232nd Hrin Infantry

I've also begun assembling the second lot of Brigade models from left to right we have a Rhino, Suwalska with Anti Tank Gun, Battlewagon, Shtorm Howitzer, Land Raider, Molotok Gun, Leman Russ & a Suwalska with Support Gun

Got the Command Vehicles for the 21st command group done, a Rhino and a Lisa, notice the difference in base thickness to hide the size disparity. The Net Epic rules has two command Rhinos for the company and actually using a Rhino for it makes the Commissars vehicle easy to distinguish.

I've also got the other Bat Swarm and a Luft Lancer done.

I even remembered to mae sure the Bat swarm ranks.

I've also done a Plague Crawler. This lumbering behemoth will count as a Plague Tower in my games of Net Epic. It's based around random Ramshackle games parts and armed with two smaller guns (IG grenade launcher and Heavy Stubber) as well as a Demolisher Cannon.

Thanks. It actually surprised me how much I'm moving forward still. Especially with the scratchbuilding and kitbashing, the Epic Chaos contains some of the best work I've done. The painting was given a huge push by this site sharing my work has been a great motivator and pushed me forward to complete more stuff. Completing stuff progresses you as a painter you get quicker and sharper with practise it is simply the best way too improve as a painter. Frankly paint and you'll get better worry about how bad your stuff is and you won't paint and you'll never improve. This is actually aimed more at any lurkers than you mind Graven.
I've been waiting on some SEM mortars for a few weeks and wandered into the shop to look for them. I managed to avoid the temptation of ordering in Scourges and War Rocket models but instead picked up a few Tyranid parts. I've used Tyranid parts on Chaos Titans before with a good deal of success and wanted some of the basic Gaunt weapons for my Warhounds.

The spinefists make great Titan weapons (currently planning on using them as Vulcan Mega Bolters. The old lead legs kept snapping on one so I posed him to look as if he's climbing. I swapped both heads out as well which gives them a far more vicious look.

I've also got my Chaos Terminator Company done. I've bunged quite a few command models on these bases as I'm hoping to eke out a second company and I've got loads of Chaos Champions already. The line bases are to match my originally based Terminators. Land Raiders have received the spike fence treatment.

For the Guard I have the command tank done for the 22nd Company of the 232nd

Technically the company is finished but I've also done some attached armour who will feature as well.

I've also got B Platoon of the 21st company of the 232nd Hrin finished

Here they both are together.

The backdrop they are on is the box for the folding table I've brought to give me a battlefield it sadly folds the wrong way. So I cut the box so it folded in half wallpapered and painted it. Crude but it'll do for a small playing area twice the width of the table. Not quite big enough for 40k fine for smaller size Epic and After the Cataclysm games. One sides done in Grey the other is in Green. I haven't flocked it due to the mess involved. Frankly I'll probably pick up a few sheets of Sundeala as it's light and easy to work with and do it to them eventually.

I've got the last Landwehr done I'll get around to a squad portrait at some point.

As well as that I've finished of D Squadron of 22 Company 232nd Hrin.

These are the Rosomakha Light Tank modified with lengths of styrene rod as fuel tanks a banner pole from the epic base sprue as a weapon nozzle and turned around.

Caffeine related daftness these are my Hell Scourges. Stupid Wargames Factory Skeleton legs (separate feet just separate feet uggggghhhh) and a Tyranid Devourer as head weapon creepy thingy.

Hello my name is Llamahead and I'm addicted. My Rawl Plug obsession is getting more and more bizarre. These things seem to turn up everywhere in my modelling from Psycannon

To Drop Pods

& Scenery

My addiction however began with Orky Space ships

Recently it has returned to my old obsession with my Ork Landa's 5 of them made using junk and rawl plugs and caffeine lots and lots of wonderful caffeine. To get these new from Trouble maker games would be about £90 and from GW would All Epic stuff gone from there website.

Thanks Graven another card of them is on the to do list.
First of all here's the Landswehr squad.

Spartan Games Dystopian legions are nice chunky pieces of Lead remember they are 35mm scale not 28mm and far chunkier than GW. They also used to seem pricy GW soon solved that problem however

I've also painted up a Thunderer squadron based on the Brigade Miniatures Volk Assault Guns

This means I've finished the first company for the 232nd Hrin Infantry so here's there basic TOE

232nd Hrin Infantry
COMMANDER Colonel Agathius Sextus
DOCTRINE Infantry
FORMATION
Command Company
2 Armour Companies
2 Mechanised Companies
1 Artillery Company
20 Infantry Companies
5 Logistics Companies
BACKGROUND
Formerly the 11th PDF Division they were inducted as an entire unit into the guard and are a useful balanced force.

This is the Regiments 22nd Company. As an Infantry Support Company the Leman Russes have also been supplemented by a Thunderer and Hellhound squadron for close in support.

The fleet got a bit of an airing today and actually won a game. My opponent made the bad mistake of massing his Imperial fleet right opposite my Orks this cut the play area in half and dealt with my chief worry closing under heavy fire. I also used my Assault Boats well picking on ships which had already fired their turrets at torpedoes. This managed to render both the Overlord Battlecruiser and the Retribution Battleship unable to fire. I plinked away at his ships and managed to unleash a devastating boarding action my pair of Killkroozers boarded the Overlord which disengaged without much trouble. A Dominator got closed and crippled. However my Terror Ship and Hammer managed to board and hulk a Dictator utterly devastating it. With that the Imperial fleet buggered of save the Overlord which got crippled before it escaped. Lessons learnt focus Ordnance try and hit ships with both Torpedoes and Assault Boats and focus Assault Boats on ships which have already fired turrets. Boarding is probably less devastating than closing in and using heavy guns but far more fun. Orks need to get in close and focussed small battlefields are therefore excellent against Orks and admittedly Battlefleet Gothic like most games is more fun when you are winning.

I've managed to end the 6mm Undead winning streak by playing them. Game felt right and with the finished spell lores its time to get really playtesting key flaws remain but that's what play testing is about. This game involved a very nasty human mage with an excellent Death Ray and a brilliant performance by Nelly's Wrath after annoying the Gryphon (unluckily saved by the riders Magic Armour) and badly hurting the Abomination it was in melee with it went on to kill the Vampire and the final Cursed Knight. Not catching the Knights when they broke and several lucky courage tests saved the humans bacon.

The first step is always acknowledging you have a problem. It all seems so innocent when it's just a bit of pluggage....but that's the start of the slippery slope. In a few months you'll be using neighbourhood walls in your work, and we find that over 50% of plugaholics have tried to create something with an entire estate within 6 months of using walls

I've had a burst of enthusiasm at painting Chaos War Engines again.
Here are the Blood Reapers

These are the Doomblasters (dystopian Legion models Burza mortars if I remember correctly

I've also bodged together some Djinn

I originally sculpted the bottom half from milliput but it didn't look right so I used glue gun glue and span it around for the magicy floaty bit. The torsos are Mantic ghouls and the heads are from Wargames Factory they provide me with greater Chaos elementals for After the Cataclysm.

Last but not least is this critter

49p plastic toy dinosaur card and guns. I also brought another tub of the small ones so I've got a big herd of Squiggoths (30 or so) but most importantly I've got enough Pterodactyls for a card of Snakebite Cyber Wyverns an utterly crucial element which I hope returns in the next Codex. To be honest a big return for the Snakebites would truthfully be awesome.

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/02/20 19:51:42

Post by: Llamahead

This is going to be a fairly big one. We'll start with my new toy.

It's a square hole punch it punches wait for it Square Holes! I had to order it of Ebay as apparently very people want to punch square holes. The reason I wanted it is to make easy 6mm ruins like this.

Take a Strip of card cut it to a width where the hole punch can reach all of it and rule on some guide lines I used a cm line.

I then took the Hole punch and punched in windows at random.

This piece was cut up in roughly triangular shape to make ruins.

Add matchsticks or sprue as guidelines to where you want the floor to go and glue to a base

Add floors on top of the matchsticks

Then paint and flock them up and party

I've also got a bunch of things painted. Their are these Colossi.

They are just 28mm War of the Roses foot knights I got to use as Dismounted Brettonian Knights painted as statues. In the background these are the elementals of Order.

This Witch provides another Mage for my humans

It's from Irregulars 19thc Civilians which I'll use to add some more mages to my force

I've also got the Defilers painted

Finally I've finished Verum Sotirias my Nurglite Warlord Titan

Lots of fun with washes on this beasty.

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/02/22 21:12:46

Post by: Llamahead

Thanks. Well Verum Sotirias actually survived it's first game. Mortarion also managed to survive this one. I played Rykks Tyranids again and narrowly lost. Basically we ignored each others titans and blasted apart each others supporting troops sadly enough I shed to many supporting victory points by being over aggressive with Rhinos and the fact Tyranids get double points for wiping out cards. Mortarion hacked down 4 Malefactors and my titan blasted apart little beasties and big beasties. Against Tyranids you should focus on fewer larger company cards. I have a feeling my Guard are going to be excellent against them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I also saw the new White Dwarf. The knights look awesome but to be honest I prefer the Dreamfroge stuff. It's a nice looking toy indeed and could be a useful hull for the Imperator although I'm probably going for a Leviathon 15mm Mortis as the basis.

Got this piece finished.

It's a combined Henge/Stone Circle I've made as a centre piece for 6mm Fantasy games. It's not based purely upon any one example but Arbor Low in Derbyshire and Caythorpe in East Yorkshire were certainly inspirational (Caythorpe was one of my sites by the way. The Henge is technically a term for the large embankment I've decided to put a ditch inside and a central mound although that's to make my life easier usually the ditch would be outside. The ditch is depicted as cut into chalk as I thought it would look good. The stone circle is simply big pieces of railway ballast stuck into a ring around the edge.

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/02/24 22:55:07

Post by: Llamahead

That's an idea actually the chalk effect wouldn't be hard just score in some lines like I do for the rivers into the hill slope now the question is what designs? The Uffington White Horse is tempting. It's also which culture would do it. Currently Humans and Orcs are the prime suspect. It doesn't seem Elvish, Centaury or like the work of the Beastkin and the environment of the Lizardmen doesn't support it. Hmmm thoughting cap on

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/02/24 23:20:25

Post by: monkeytroll

Humans and orcs certainly most likely, although the beastkin may well get into it with some kind of tribal/celtic design.....

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/02/25 18:33:01

Post by: Llamahead

It's more that I see the Beastkin as creatures of the true forest rather than of the Downs land. I see them as more involved with trees and glades than the open ground of the Downs, equally the Celtic idea is really good it'll bring them away from the Chaos Evil raargh imagery of GW Beastmen. The background of Mundus is designed to bring things to a more grey and grey ideology both Orcs and Beastmen are different not evil. Morality is an individual trait not a species one. While some societies are intrinsically evil, Nazi Germany comes to mind a different society of the same species might be good. I'm really hoping to play with this with the Lizardman civil war. Basically for countless generations the Lizardmen worshipped the volcanoes offering them sentient lives as sacrifice to stop them exploding blocking out the sun and causing catastrophic climate change again. Then Anak Tiryashok explodes blocking out the sun and causing catastrophic climate change. This causes a civil war as while many Lizardmen decide they didn't offer enough blood shed and the volcanoes require more sacrifice others led by the messianic radical Sholem Tzar decide god doesn't exist and embrae rationality leading to a bloody civil war between the Sholemites and the Fire Feeders.

Today's painted creations are an Or Lander and a Storage Tank both based on an old Vallejo paint pot enjoy.

This means I've got the Company finished as March's entry for Tale of Epic Gamers

I've unfortunately ran out of IG Infantry and I'm still waiting for my C-in-C mortars to be delivered as well as for various kickstarter goodies. Equally I still have lots of Brigade vehicles to paint and assemble.

The alien fauna are pompoms dyed green and cut in half.

I've also finished a Warlord. This Imperial titan Candente Iultionis is armed with a pair of Volcano Cannons and a pair of Turbolasers. Enemy titans beware!

Not particularly Graven big laser gun as ginormous laser gun isn't particularly amazing.
Just played a game of After the Cataclysm I lost resoundingly again. Happily enough the mechanics seem sound just some of the abilities need tightening. Basically High Res is too easy to get and the ginormous necromantic magic missile needs toning down.
I've also got 3 bodged together Blood Bowl players two gutter runners and a rat ogre to greatly increase my teams cheese factor.
Aside from that I'm planning to enter into the League of Extraordinary Riveters Elemental terrain competition. Currently I'm leaning towards some sort of water powered forge complex. Possibly like the ones described in David Webers safehold series.

6mm scale smaller and quicker although due to a new job it might have to be shelved this time. See how the job shapes up and where I can get it to before I head down for it although with the nationals to hmm. Bright side is its another Archaeology job based around the Cambridge area this time. Means I'll be in a position to get my infantry as well.

Got some new stuff for you
This bodged up Blood Bowl player is based on a Gutter Runner I got for my Skaven army but never got round to finishing off.

I've also got a second Landa done.

Sadly enough I'll have to drop out of this round of the League. I've discovered I've been hired for a different job than I've been expecting I've been hired as an Assistant Supervisor which means I'll be running jobs and responsible for them sadly it means I'll have less time to dig holes and look for shiny. Equally I'm going to be paid more and I'm definitely going on an infantry buying binge soon as well as that the Troublemaker Games kickstarter is due. This might mean I'll be around the Cambridge area for much longer. I'm looking forward to it if I'm honest only problem is I'll probably be teaching a recording method I've never used before and I've got to work out what's actually acceptable always before it's been roughly based on what the supervisor says is ok. Bright side is I an't be as bad as some I've worked for................Northamptonshire Archaeology (since entered into Receivership so I can whinge about them as much as I like) comes to mind. It also means I might be going to a tournament on only one practise game....Fun times and havoc ahead!

Well I've got the Wyrdstone Wanderers finished in their full might. I also managed to get a draw somehow against my friends Orcs loitering with the ball in my own half cost me a touchdown but after the Troll caught it following kick off while my skaven were being pummelled by Black Orcs my Rat Ogre managed a brilliant blitz which left the ball in the hands of a Gutter Runner who managed to leg it and score my goal leaving the result 1-1. Blood Bowl is a silly game. But I like it.
At the moment this is what I have
6 Linerats

All Black Scorpion figures

My Defense

Black Scorpion a Thrower and two Blitzers

My Offense

4 Gutter Runners 2 GW conversions and 2 Black Scorpion

Keenripper

Island of Blood Rat Ogre with a headswap and an excellent example of how a simple paint scheme choice can change the dynamic of a model usually these guys would be dull and gritty but the bright colours makes him seem far less war like

Finally a full team shot.

I've got these nice quarterly army shots for the ToEG over on Tactical Command. The Army Group is currently coming on nicely although it is suffering from a shortage of Infantry.

Been thinking about Astra Militarium and deciding to ignore it. While I think the unit entry for the Taurox has some potential for my Zulus 8x8 I'm just not interested enough to justify the expense. The £15 hike in price since the last codex has stopped what was once a release month purchase fro being brought. I'd also be far more interested if they were releasing a new plastic regiment Praetorian/Mordian/Valhallan from the same sprue might be possible. The Scion kit while it seems interesting is just uncompetitive with the Eisenkern or the Corporation stuff. The Taurox hull and shape I like it looks like a Morris Quad a distinctive British WW2 vehicle but the tracks spoil it.

My Troublemaker games kickstarter order has turned up the infantry are great both the Regular and Support Cybershadows are excellent and the Cyborgs are ok but not at the same standard. The vehicles are great with the Spitefire a wonderful model

I know people will want scale shots so I've put it by a Bizon and Suwalski as well as some obscure late eighties models.
This quick shot shows the scales this more than makes up for the fact that Oxford refers to everybody with more than six months digging experience.............
Meh evaluation I'm on is close to home and will go to full excavation so I'm happy enough

Of to the Nationals tomorrow............
But also received my Scotia batch.

Back row Land Raider Bizon Suwalski Rhino
Front Row Rotary Trench Excavator, Samil 100 Tender & Open, STS Crane, Samil 100 ARRV, BAT-M Engineering Vehicle, Leguan Bridge Layer

Sadly enough the order's missing 4 AT-T tractors which I'll heckle them about. The models are lovely and of reasonable quality. The Samil 100's in particular work well as heavy duty lorries. They'll require basing but'll add a fun quirk to the force

Well went to the nationals had a great time and came joint 8th out off 13 entries. First game I played an Orc team who out fought me fine but then beat me in the passing game which peeved me. After that it was two close fought draws against Lizardman and Pro Elves. The next day brought a glorious victory against the Wood Elves and a crushing defeat against the Norse. Lessons learnt Blood Bowl is a fun game but shouldn't be taken seriously and teams where everybody has Block is infuriating. Next year its at De Montfort the other Leicester University and I'm highly tempted to play Dystopian Wars...........

Salamanders for After the Cataclysm I'd prefer something more lizard like but I had lots of these spare from Squiggoths painted to look like fire spirits might try something different if I do some more.

Cheers Monkeytroll won't be until me and my full Bitz Box are reunited for them I'm afraid. Fortunately I need far less for 6mm Imperial vehicles which is what's kept me out of mischief for the moment.

These Brigade Model Suwalski's with Support Guns will be fulfilling my Chimera needs for the moment. This is A Platoon of 25th Company 232nd Hrin Infantry's Transport component by the way.

These Vanquisher Conversions are A Squad and the Command HQ for 8th Company of the 46th Hrin Armour.

In Net Epic they'll be a Leman Russ Assault Company a squadron each of Vanquishers, Conquerors and Executioners. Got lot's modelling wise done as well with a big batch of stuff undercoated for the next big push.

More artillery

C Battery of 26th Company 232nd Hrin Infantry comprising of Bombards. All the company needs to finish it off is infantry as I need the 2 command stands to finish it.

Red 12 of Red Squadron 532nd Naval Air Wing (Strike). It's a Troublemaker Games Spitefire beautiful model real pleasure to paint.

It certainly is. The 26th are at 2 Basilisk & 1 Bombard Squadron as well as a command vehicle which is the vehicle strength for a basic Net Epic Artillery Formation along with 2 Infantry stands to represent the HQ and the Artillery Observers

A Command Vehicle from the 12th Company of the 511th Hrin Artillery

B Squadron of the 95th Hrin Mechanised

C Platoon's Transports from the 7th Company of the 182nd Hrin Wardens.

In Net Epic Stormtroopers ride around in Rhinos. The Wardens while not technically Stormtroopers are Heavily armed elite assault infantry and therefore follow the same stats and formations

Been getting a lot of painting done over the bank holiday weekend.
We'll start with the least exciting elements Brigade vehicles of types I've shown before
Transports for B platoon of the 24th Company 232nd Hrin

Thunderers for E Squadron of 23rd Company 232nd Hrin

Mildly more interesting is this Chaos Warhound but you've seen her before

C Platoon of the 28th Company are the first of the Scotia trucks I've painted up. I chose Samil 100's as these blocky heavy duty vehicles had the right feel for the guard

The Skitarii Praetorians are fairly interesting these are the Ladysmith Lambda Xi Skitarii's Epsilon Praetorian Cohort from Troublemaker games

These are my final completed lot SEM jetbikes with a converted Commissar with sprue hat

So I've finished models from 5 different manufacturers over the weekend can anybody beat that?

Glad you liked it. First of all the new painted stuff

B Squadron of the 14th Company of the 95th Hrin Mechanized

Hit Ebay gold as well. 2 Warlords including Banelord bits, 3 Reavers and 4 Warhounds for £30. They'll be awhile in coming as they need stripping and bits but the Truth Bringers are becoming the dominant arm of my Chaos Army. Great! These will go to the Chaos forces due to missing parts and I'd also in an ideal world like to use the new pattern titans for my Imperial force.

I'm also plotting and scheming about what to get at Triples. Current wish list is 6mm Infantry, Slaanesh scout titan base models and chaos flyers. 15mm Leviathon Mortis if it's out.

Lots more Jetbikes today
A & B Squadrons of the 9th Company 95th Hrin Mechanised

Captain Falco Veriens of the 9th Company 95th Hrin Mechanised

& to finish of the complete company

Here's the Regimental formation. I still haven't decided whether to se SEM or Brigade Vehicles for the GEV's

95th Hrin Mechanized
COMMANDER Colonel Arminius Hextersis
DOCTRINE Mechanized Reconnaissance
FORMATION
1 Command
5 Armour Companies
5 Mechanized Companies
10 Cavalry Companies
5 Logistics Company
BACKGROUND
The 95th is a specialised Reconnaissance Regiment designed to operate in close support of other Hrin assets. Unusually for an Imperial Guard regiment the 95th consists primarily of Ground Effect Vehicles lower tech than the far more common skimmers they still provide greater mobility than more conventional armour.

As well as all the Jetbikes I've got Breacher B vehicle of 3rd Company 231st Hrin Infantry and is a Trouble Maker Games Wellingtonian I'm counting as a Gorgon as Crassus don't yet have rules in Net Epic.

Post by: Llamahead

E Platoon of the 28th Company of the 232nd Hrin

Scotia Samil 100's again I chose them as they had a not too futuristic not too recognisable look.

I've also got something done for After the Cataclysm

Necromancer on Mammoth I'm still cogitating about what to do next for it. I'd quite like to start my next 6mm army but can't justify it until the infantry has been acquired for my Imperial Guard. I am currently quite close to finishing both the Undead and Humans however so another force may be on the cards relatively soon

6 are currently assembled as part of a Chaos Titan Legion. I've got enough now for a Reaver and Warlord for each god and am hmming and hahing about creating a Warlord Battle Group for each God. My Chaos Army I literally consider as worshippers or oath bound of The Truth Bringers a Chaos
Titan Legion this'll require a lot of Titans. I'll also add Titans in better nick to my Imperial Forces. Ebays odd with prices either everythings really cheap or it's all expensive and currently Epic seems to be on a cheap swing.

Well you wanted to see what I'd do with Warhounds

Nurgle & Tzeentch Warhounds based upon the Epic UK Armageddon lists. The Tzeentch critters use toy parts as I had 2 pairs of legs spare and I wanted to use the ray gun and this was simplest.

This weekend didn't see much painting at all as I was up in Yorkshire at a Hog Roast with the family and at Triples. Triples was arguably less good than last year GZG deciding not to bring their 6mm stuff was a disappointment that saved me money. I did however get some Infantry from Dark Realm Miniatures some Industrial Infantry to give me a Skitarii company when combined with the Troublemaker Games stuff and a company of Jungle Infantry to give me some none Hrin Guard elements and variety in painting. I also picked up some 40x10mm bases as the 40x15mm bases I'd got were too big.

Unfortunately as you can see they are too small GW seem to have made 12mm bases. Hmmmppphhh. Which do you think is more gamey for bases too small or too big?

The big expense though was Dropzone Commander. I had a demo game which was good not great but it was a perfectly reasonable game. Similar mechanics to Epic 2nd Ed. The models however I've been drooling over since they realised them and I've finally given in. The show had 5 packs for the price of 4 and I brought 10 packs 3 Shaltari Walkers, 6 Scourge Fighters, 2 Scourge Gunships, 3 of the medium Scourge walkers and 16 of the little ones.........The 3 Shaltari Walkers are about Reaver size while the medium Scourge Walkers are earmarked as Quaestor Titans the variant will make excellent Subjugators and is next on my list. The Prowlers are earmarked as Slaanesh knights.......

Post by: monkeytroll

And just the sort of thing I wanted to see

Great use of the warhounds, and the bits you used on the tzeentchian critters work really well.

As a non-gamer I'll pass on the base question.......

DZC does have some lovely models - if I can fit bits into my slaaneshi 28mm I'm sure you'll find plenty of uses at 6mm

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/05/20 16:06:16

Yep simple substitutions and finding rules that match mostly harsher conversions would spoil the great lines of the models rather than improve them I feel

From left to right Minotaur, Rhino, Chaos Space Marines, Sentinel, Dropzone Commander Prowler. So maybe a little small for a Knight but excellent for Dreadnaughts and a wonderful Defiler proxy, The gun is from Brigade Models and will be used to mark out my Hell Scouges.

D Vehicle Defiant of 3rd Company 231st Hrin Infantry.

The Dropzone Commander Walkers for comparison from left to right Scourge Prowler, Warhound, Scourge Ravager, Banelord, Shaltari Ocelot. Ravager is ertainly earmarked as a Quaestor titan. The Ocelot I'm less sure about it's roughly Warlord in size but a bit gracile I'm wondering Reaver although my own datasheet is possible.

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/05/25 22:32:12

Prowler fits the bill for a defiler.

Ravager should make a good Quaestor, playing with the bits myself at the moment, albeit for a different scale

Going to have to pick up an Ocelot, those legs will be useful.

Been playing After the Cataclysm with myself this weekend. Made 2 sets of generic numbered bases 1,2,3,4,5, then 4 each of 6,7,8,9 & 10 1set labelled in Red the other Green for proxy duties. Humans beat the Undead in the first game. Highpoint was the Abomination bringing the building down but the human infantry garrisoning it killing him. Also an excellently judged flank charge by the Human cavalry along with poor choice of orders for the Mammoth mounted Mage and the Infantry which hogged all the Dark Shadow tokens and didn't spend any of them led to a Human win. Then Beastkin versus the Centaur Herd with the Heavily Armoured Centaurs gradually grinding down the Beastkin in Close Combat. Then the Dwarven Host took on the Elven Resurgency. The stalwart Dwarves managed to drive of and break the Elven Cavalry which allowed them to be shot to death and then easily saw of the infantry. The elven Lord was the only survivor he spent several turns being shot at by the Volley Gun surviving due to his ridiculously high resilience and then killed it after taking 4 rounds of fire (80 dice 3+ to hit, 6's and 4's to wound special Magic Armour 3+ save so Lord Fancypants was bloody lucky. Finally the Lizardmen took on the Orcs and Goblins. The Lizards won while the Orcs did well with the basic Dynaz warriors the Goblins were easily seen in with the Zaryos (Ogre sized Lizards) having a field day. Key points learned; High Res is too easily acquired with the current lists, The armies seem relatively balanced, Play testing against yourself is useful but to catch true problems with the rules writing needs somebody else.

On another front enjoy these

Transports of B Platoon 7th Company 182nd Hrin Wardens

Deathstrikes of D Battery 16th Company 511th Hrin Artillery

While logically the new Ork codex an a few GW toys for my Orks makes most sense I flatly won't pay those prices so theres 4 things I'm considering;

Dystopian Wars Prussians

Made one mistake Skitarii heavy weapons are called Sagitarii apparently the basic troopers like these are the Hypaspists.

Lambda Xi Gamma Hypaspist Maniple Beta Cohort mixes both Troublemaker Games Cybershadows basic infantry and specialists and Dark Realm miniatures Industrial Infantry. Also of note is the fact that Tech Guard Infantry companies are 3 groups of 6 stands not 3 groups of 10 which means I probably have 2 companies worth. Cool.

As you can see these scale nicely with each other and also with GW
C Platoon Transports of the 24th Company 232nd Hrin Infantry are also done

Currently I'm waiting for the infantry for them.......

This critter has been painted up

Been up to Sheffield for the Joy 0f 6 and to pick up my old text books for my masters. I wandered into my FLGS Sheffield's Wargames Emporium on Saturday and was met by a delightful coincidence

My infantry had arrived Mwaaahaaaahaaaahaaaa. Next cleaning them GULP. I also won't be starting anything else for a while

The next day was the Joy of 6 were I brought some Peasants from Heroic and Ro's lovely characterful models and won a set of ancients rules in the raffle. While I missed out a test of Command Horizon which I'll do at some point I did get to try a WW1 board gamey thing and GHQ's WW2 rules neither of which will be added to my repertoire but were interesting to try and I'll try and bring After the Cataclysm next year.

Cheers I'm happy with it.

More Infantry now
A Platoon of the 7th Company 182nd Hrin Wardens

In background the Wardens are PDF veterans inducted as veteran troopers and equipped in the same manner as Stormtroopers.

These Heroic and Ro's Peasants are one of the finishing touches for my 6mm Fantasy Humans I'm coming to the end of both the Humans and the Undead and am actually considering starting another force or two if time and finances allow.

For a more fantasy style Baccus https://www.baccus6mm.com/ historicals especially the Persians and Mahdists may be your best bet
I'd personally probably go with Microworld Games vehicles as some of the flyers look suitably Ornithoptery and Dark Realm Miniatures Industrial Infantry as the Fremen in their Stilsuits. The Imperial Guard from PFC C-inC would also fit nicely.

Well with three quarters of the year finished it's time to show of where we are now
Here we are in April

A small armoured force with an abundance of Sentinels and Assault Infantry.

In June

More Armour and Cavalry with some supporting Artillery and Aircraft

Now in September

Infantry beginning to make an appearance although most of those transports are now empty.

This project is something I've been wanting to do since I started wargaming in '98 and I'm definitely not loosing interest in the force. I've wanted to do a massive Epic guard army and I'm getting there.

Some bits and bobs been grinding out Infantry mainly but not quite finishing formations recently. Finally got somethings done
The Command Group for the 24th Company 232nd Hrin Infantry

C Platoon 27th Company 232nd Hrin Infantry

The 27th Company are Engineers and these are Scotia BAT-M's
These haven't been assigned a formation yet but are men of the 2nd Targen

They are Dark Realm Jungle Infantry and fun action packed sculpts although I do feel the SEM line has them beat on variety of poses and the presence of basic Rifle poses.

Given Monkeytroll actually seems to follow these mediocre ramblings I should probably enter his LoER only really feel like doing 6mm scenery and it's hard to justify it when competing with 28mm. Hmm. Well given New Haven is based on either Amsterdam or Plymouth a Trace Italienne seems the way to go and to justify it's entry I'll either make it as a defense line or as a Star Fort lets go for 8 sided for my Word Bearers as well. So that's 8 straight connecta bits and 8 Ravelins which must connecta to straight bit which connecta to each other at 90*. They also must have the ability to hold a 1" troop stand on the ramparts

Next job is to fill in some bits to get the edges right and to add a Palisade.

1st Palisade has been done

Which works as Templates

Been down to London this week to see the poppies at the tower with my father. They are beautiful and delightfully their removal was creating a nasty morass which struck me as appropriate.

Today however I blitzed out the corners.
8 sets of these were cut out

They were assembled and all together look like this

Next job the Palisade

This is the size of the finished article

Got some more finished stuff for you

This 3rd Corsair gives me a complete Squadron

I've also finished Captain Valerius Quintus and his command group for the 12th Company 511th Hrin Artillery

This completes the company

Currently ruminating on where to take my modelling next year. For Epic I don't really fancy a new army and so will probably do the Thunder's Children (my Centaur Herd) as my Tale of Epic Gamers. I'm probably going to add a pair of rocket Companies and both Heavy and Super Heavy tank contingents to the Hrin force as well I'm also slightly bemused as usually by this point in the year I'm on my third employer but I've been in the same job since April and am currently dodging promotion (I'm uh a lot more experienced than most of the Supervisors and have been threatened with the rank above that. I could do the job and enjoy it but the MA comes first. This may mean I'll be looking for a place near Cambridge (I flatly refuse to pay the price for property in Cambridge bluck) But we'll see where I am after Christmas. I've still got my place in Sheffield and jobs are picking up there as well so I'll have options in the New Year. Life looks far better than it has done in ages to be honest. Incidentally Microworld games mega bundle program looks very tempting as well!

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/11/30 13:28:07

Post by: Llamahead

Heh cheers Monkeytroll. I generally avoid Cambridge if I can help it anyway too many nutters on bikes and too much hassle when compared to Bury or Ely.

The reason for this post is my Microworld Games order arrived.

From left to right you have Centaur Nobles, Centaur Archers, Centaur Spearmen for Thunder's Children my Centaur Army.
Then we get Minotaur Heavies and Sci-Fi Beastmen both of which are earmarked for Army Group 37158 (all my plastic Beastmen for Epic have joined my Chaos forces)
After that it's Undead Zombies, Werebats and Ghouls. If I can paint them distinct enough the Ghouls will be an interesting option for After the Cataclysm. If not Zombie Horde so no big problem then!

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/11/30 13:36:56

Considering the werebats seem to be bigger than the minotaurs there's some interesting possibilities for chaos with them....

Good point I might have to check them against the plastics as well Daemon Princes are tempting.

B Platoon 7th Company 182nd Hrin Wardens

As well as that the first bastion is complete for the star fort.

More support vehicles for the 232nd Hrin Infantry

Logistic Vehicles of D Platoon 28th Company

I also have a confession to make. I have long been a lover of Starships and I've always hankered for a nice fleet of them but the Firestorn Armada models just don't look right to me. I've also finally accomplished something I've not accomplished before I have a job over Christmas rather than being laid off due to the winter construction slow down. This and the GZG sale led to me buying a Neu Swabian fleet. I've got the starter pack which for £30 has a Battleship, Battlecruiser, 1 Heavy Cruiser, 3 Light Cruisers, 2 Destroyers, 2 Frigates and 3 Corvettes. Because GZG is awesome they also gave me another Light Cruiser and 4 more Destroyers free.... I've also got some bits and bobs and a pair of Tank Transporters. I'll also be taking advantage of the discount code heavily come the new year.

Still haven't decided how to paint them or what to call them.

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/12/21 20:13:43

Post by: monkeytroll

Indulged myself today with several Christmas Presents, more armour & space craft from Brigade Models, as well as the components for a cunning plan. I've got the bits and bobs to magnetise the flight bases for my star fleet hopefully Ebay magnets and magnetic tape will do the trick easily enough. Oh and a belated but Merry Christmas and good luck for the grim darkness of the far future (or at least the new year)

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2014/12/31 17:19:45

Post by: Llamahead

We'll begin with the purty pictures.
Fleet with new magnetised bases. Both the Battecruiser and the Battleship ended up superglued with the base significantly lowered to aid with balance.

I'll be adding to it once I've done several crucial chores.

The Army Group is also due it's quarterly progress shot.
Here's the previous 2

We'll start with the Ad Mech contingent
Ladysmith Skitarii Lambda Xi

Now here's the Guard

Looking good.

For next year I should start looking for or reforming my old gaming group down in Suffolk. I'm looking for some star fleet games and Epic my fleet'll work nicely in Firestorm Armada and looks less daftly big than the Spartan Games fleets. Modelling project wise I have three main ones for next year. The fleet, Merchant support ships are coming from Brigade Models as I speak. The Army Group, I'm adding Rocket and Heavy Tank companies soon and still have plenty of Infantry to keep me out of mischief for a long while to come. The final project is of course After the Cataclysm. I've got an excellent Fort for it and a new Centaur army to add to my Undead and Humans. I've already started painting them and the Thunder's Children will be my Tale of Epic Gamers for this year.

Outside of this however I will almost certainly neglect 28mm as I've lost interest due to pricing and lack of a foe in GW games however some more Nurgle models will gradually make an appearance in the grim darkness of the far future I'm onsidering doing an Empire army based on Perry and Warlord Games figures as well as a Mantic Orc force but that'll be a long time in coming

SS Trukson one of my Brigade models Merchantmen. Going for a battered heavily used dingy workhorse look for these. More original trilogy than prequels......

Grieg is sneaking in here one of my Avatars of War Corruptors of the Apocalypse. Lovely set and at £25 for 25 far better value than GW.

Had a quick run up to Sheffield these past few days treated myself to the Corruptors with Great Weapons for my Forces of Nurgle and also grabbed bases for my charity shop booty. Loot includes a 15mm Leviathon Mortis, GZG transports and cruisers, lots of walkers C-in-C, Dreadball & EM4, Heavy Tank Company (Troublemaker Games) and an Airfield. I also got 7TV as I just love the ethos and only price I begrudged spending was the tube fare which was exorbitant

Compleat Llamahead day today that means there's new stuff on all my active blogs;
The Forces of Nurgle http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/270/231101.page#7764195
The Conclave of Hrin http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/240/279068.page#7840092

We'll start with the none painty stuff first. Received a bad miscast on 1 of the Avenger Tank Destroyers I brought at Salute. I asked for a replacement and rather than the single tank I expected received an entire packet. Cool.
Next I got my first game in in ages against one of the lads from site. My Chaos received their first victory. A thunderous bombardment from the Banelord practically wiped out 2 clans and after that the Orks never quite reentered the game. Only problem I was playing the Orks great fun but the theory my dice hate me is now stronger than ever. I mean whoever manages not t roll 1 misfire in a game?

New Epic units next
Lambda Xi Delta Praetorian Cohort

Commissar D'Angelo-Sword snapped so painted his hand as a Power Fist.

Space Ships next
CNS Minnow

Eye Class Sout ship officially Nymphe class Scout Ship

Thunder's Children receive another regiment of Spears

Finally Herbert the first of the Plumstead Militia, my Halfling Mordheim band has received paint

Blackhoof
Hero for the Thunder's Children

Tim
Archer for the Plumstead Militia (one of Lumpin Croops Fighting Cocks)

Hound

Went for more of a Golden Retreiver than a Wolf didn't quite get it but it looks more of a mongrel than a pedigree and a hound not a wolf so I'm happy

Started painting up my Gregster's lab kickstarter stuff. Really happy with it. Got a lot more to come!

Treated myself to some new toys again. Mostly more Spaceships. I have an excuse. You see I needed the right number of pods to make my armed fleet tender symmetrical and those nice lads at Ground Zero Games said they'd put it in my next order for free. I got some more merchantmen, and some toys for the Army Group. Enough transports for an Airborne Company and a Dropship.

Heres the A7V (planning to use as a Valkyrie)

Some scale shots with a Leman Russ, Land Raider, the A7V, Rhino and a Bison. It's alright with the GW stuff good with the Brigade Models stuff.

I've also got more ships done.
Some Heavy Fighters.

Tomorrow I begin the process of moving out of my place in Sheffield. I'll be mainly boxing up models and tidying my desk. Throwing out a lot of the rubbish I've gathered for terrain. I've also got close to finishing two of my fantasy 6mm armies. Current plan is to hold of getting more 6mm until A) I receive my Troublemaker Games kickstarter, B) I receive my CAV kickstarter, C) Microworld games releases it's Post Acopalytic 6mm line. I am however hmming and hahing about starting a new 28mm army. There's two major fantasy projects I want to do, quasi-historical fantasy humans and orcs. Orcs would be Mantic models using Confrontation Orcs as heroes and elites while the quasi-historical fantasy humans would be based on Perry miniatures/ Warlord Games historicals. This won't be started soon as I'll at least finish moving first. I'd also like to set up a gaming board using the classic Robin Dews article from the first WD I ever acquired.

1 Imperator Class (Leviathon Mortis)
10 Warlord Class (1 Mk 1 & 9 Beetlebacks) (15 total)
5 Reavers (6 total)
6 Warhounds (16 total)
Oh ad 2 Mega Gargants with 3 Troublemaker Games Gargant equivalents coming from Kickstarter.

Organisation is currently planned as 5 Warlord Titan battlegroups. 1 for each god.
A Reaver for each God and 2 loyalists
A Warhound Titan scout pack for Tzeentch, Nurgle & Khorne as well as the two Undivided pairs as well as at least a pair of Loyalist warhounds. Currently hmming and hahhing about what to use for the Slaaneshi questers. My original plan to use the Dropzone Commander Walkers as Titans has fell through since I've seen the Troublemaker Games Knights......

Fully moved out of Sheffield. Hectic weekend. Equally did it faster than I thought and winded up saying goodbye to some old haunts. Treated myself to some new toys while doing it. Frostgrave an excellent simple game but probably more sophisticated than I reckon. I also got some bits and bobs I've been meaning to pick up for ages. The Killa Kan kit as we all know I need more Gargants right, I've also got another 3 coming from the Troublemaker games kickstarter, thats 6 more! I also got the Hydra Miniatures Space Pirates squadron for some Chaos Aircraft. I've also acquired some stuff from Malifaux. The Hoarcats who will help start my collection of critters for Frostgrave, and the 2 Through the Breach sets. Heres where the frustration hits. I found an excellent part for Paradigm's Never Tell me the Odds competition, A playing card hand, I then dropped it and have managed to totally lose it. The kits also frankly aren't particularly flexible and an odd scale. I'm therefore thinking of using them along with my Dystopian Legions Prussians in a 7TV campaign as both have a similar period and scale.

Well started playing with some of my new toys.
I've assembled a few of the War Rockets. Simple characterful sculpts.

I've also got the first 2 Through the Breach plastics done. Not that impressed not bad but not particularly flexible kit and not recommended as compatible with GW. Far too tin and lanky for that.

I've also got some painted Beastmen as the first Chaos card I've finished in ages

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2015/09/08 23:17:21

Post by: kestral

Those war rockets are really cool sculpts. Plumstead Militia is also an excellent name and I do like halflings. How is Frostgrave? I thought it seemed interesting as a sort of cleaned up Mordheim, but I wasn't sure how Osprey would do with a fantasy war-game...

Llamahead's Science Fiction Shenanigans-It's a Ball planet @ 2015/09/13 20:16:53

Post by: Llamahead

It seems really good but until I've played it I can't tell for sure. It's hugely wizard centric and everybody else except maybe the apprentice is a mook, I'm not sure I like that, equally it has more options for random encounters than Mordheim and I appreciate that. Osprey is a publishing house not an author, while they've been known for their guides for years all they've really been doing is printing and maybe commissioning stuff somebody else writes for them. Frankly there first Wargames rule set was more a departure than a fantasy rule set and Bolt Action is doing well. Incidentally I've finally finished reading 7TV and it's excellent fairly similar mechanically if I'm honest but a totally different style. Seems as though I now own two excellent skirmish rule sets all I need is to scare up an opponent.

The War Rockets are excellent Hydra Miniatures does some lovely models as you know and Wargames Emporium is their UK stockist. For the name of the Plumstead Militia I can't take much credit as I was working near a village called Plumstead when I was naming them and like Steeple Bumpstead it's a name I just associate with Hobbits and the Shire!

I cheated and brought the Killa Kans kit, as well as the Crushers from the Troublemaker Games kickstarter and 2 Megagargants from Ebay. That'll go along with the 11 I've acquired from Ebay. The scratchbuilding option does seem fun and a while back I cardstocked some Killa Kans so I'd consider it. The crushers will however be excellent value when released at £12 each. The tanks are Troublemaker Games of course, the retro rocket is from Hydra Miniatures and CNS Gadfly is a Nymphe class scout ship from Ground Zero Games who have an excellent 6mm range and some easily adapted 15mm models as well.

Hey llama,

I 'd normally stalk you on tactcomms, but I already had this window open!

Excellent work as usual!

The killa kan kit is a godsend for epic orks. I picked one up from a hobbycraft clearance sale few years before I had decided to quit painting 28mm 40k stuff, for a pittance, and it is smashing kit. I now intend to grab another couple of kits for my gargant mobs, as well as all sorts of gubbins for my ork town. I really want to chop up my 40k ones, but as they look so good on the shelf I might just keep them as display!

I have scratch built most of a stompa for epic, which just needs detailing, but the killa kans will make making gargants a breeze. I have been super unlucky on the bidding on oldschool mega gargants, so the bits in the kans kits will be the next best option!

Edit: Oh yeah, and I have almost finished my epic scale scratch built killa kan, just so I had a whole family! Just needs one more eye made and some pipes, then finish off the rivets, then I will post him up!
I plan to do a family shot of all killa kan shaped gargants going from small to large!

Great to see you Rex need to catch up on your blogs over there! I mainly blog here if I'm honest as I can put up more varied projects on here and I've been posting longer. Ebays odd with things like Mega Gargants you wait ages for one then a half dozen turn up at once. All 3 of the ones I brought were New on Sprue and they turn up like that moderately regularly.

Le Cacty good question for me I'd probably use the old plastics as the Kans and the metals as the Dreadnaughts for my ease.

Speaking of Tact command, I signed up for it a while ago and my account has yet to be activated. Is there any reason for this or is it just slow?

(If I recall correctly)They have a massive issue with spam awhile back and the forum owner now checks over applicants by hand to combat this and with the forum owner moving overseas for work, and with a new scheduled he has been a bit snowed under. If you drop me a message with your forum name you tried to register I will ping him or someone over there and get them to check your registration, thats the quickest way to get your account active! Annoying, yes, but it does keep the riff raff out!

Good luck with that LeCacty look forward to seeing you on there! Some of the battle reports need to be seen to be believed!

First of all the bad news. Troublemaker Games is ceasing to trade. However Vanguard Miniatures will be taking over distribution of the existing range and hopefully releasing more.
http://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/

More positively I've got Captain Hadrian of the 23rd Company 232nd Hrin Infantry's command tank painted up.

I've also finished the Warmaster Lord of Change for my Chaos forces and this month's painting competition as nothing says tricky like a Lord of Change!

Cheers Guys. Little may be slightly inaccurate though. The Lord of Change is at least the size of the average 28mm infantryman annd has wings which look accurate. :Excellent piece though.

Seem to be acquiring some 1;1 scale terrain in the near future. My own house. Going to put buying new toys on hold for a while but equally I'm definitely sorting out a gaming table......Got plenty enough to paint as it is!

Halfling Archer nice and simple.

Regular Chaos Marine Company.

Currently in two minds about what I'm going to do with ToEG on Tactical Command. I have three major Epic armies on the go and can't really justify buying a new one. Fantasy is an option for this year but I'm short of cash hhhhhmmmm don't actually have an Ork Blog over there yet Gargant Mega Mob next year?

First of all some Boarboyz

Got these based up finally.

Quite a lot for the Army Group

B Squadron 2nd Company 39th Hrin Armoured
Brigade Models Mammoth Tanks.

3rd Platoon 12th Company 8th Dresden

Microworld Games Sci-Fi Beastmen

The first troopers of the Witham 3rd got plans for these boys involving lots of lovely Brigade Models Armoured Cars.....
Colour scheme is Desert Yellow and Khaki with African flesh. Possibly could do with more contrast.....

Still hmming and hahhing about new toys I really shouldn't but work has been mildly miserable with the first cold wet weeks of winter, a site a long way from home and commuting in the dark along with the stress of buying a home well I'm going to be in the mood for a treat it'll either be the deferred pleasure of the Dropfleet Commander Kickstarter or something more tangible. Baccus historicals to use a s guard is one temptation, Microworld has many while one thing I'm hearing the siren call of is attempting a chapter although whether of Sisters or Marines i haven't decided. Well I have eventually both......

For ToEG
Basically be a member of Tactical Command........
Theres a forum on there where you run an army blog. You aim to finish a set amount each month aiming to complete the army in a year. I've usually aimed for a company card in a month of some description for Net Epic and posted it on the blog the aim is to finish a playable army to a decent standard by the end of the year. Here's the true guidelines. http://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewtopic.php?f=119&t=26572 More the merrier, and images and text easily transpose from Dakka Dakka to Tactical Command making life easier. The gallery works well on there as well!
Hope to see you two aboard for next year!

Company cards? What is this, Adeptus Titanicus?
Do you think I could enter my sons for next year, even though they're already started?

I wish I would have known about this before the year started. I would have entered my Squats. I've also got a rediculous amount of Orks that need to get done. But now that I know about it I will come up with something for next year.

Well I still play that....Well the Net Epic version myself. It's what my gaming group back in Sheffield wanted to play and I wanted to play any Epic.........So I use that as a guideline there's no hard and fast rules. Most people aim for roughly a formation a month which ever rule set they play. I obviously can't do that for my Lizardmen. For the Thunder's Children I set a relaxed pace of at least one 4 base group a month and I'll work out something similar for the Dynaz. I entered my Word Bearers in at slightly started so I don't see why thats a problem. Really looking forward to seeing your work on there you two!

Just seen the scuttlebutt about a new Specialist Games department at GW. Trying to be hugely excited but failing. I genuinely prefer supporting the smaller manufacturers, really enjoy the fan rules and have been delighted to cobble together armies from random sources. GW's current pricing is also off putting to say the least and frankly the rules writing has plummeted since the release of 5th Ed 40k and 8th Ed Warhammer so I have low hopes for that. Although hopefully It'll build up a player base for the games again!
