Seen up close, your edge highlights are pretty harsh, but at tabletop distance they really pop. Well done.

zahnib, are you sure you didn't mean to post that in graven's blog? I consider myself to be a glacial painter, but any progress I have made I attribute to really trying to do something every day, no matter how small. Continual forward movement. And posting here helps a lot. Sharing helps keep me motivated.

Haha, no mistake here! Maybe it is the variety of what you paint but you seem to have a consistent output of awesome miniatures!

Ossus looks great, the twin autocannon Dread always looks great to me and it is one of the underappreciated 40k weapons.

And do not worry about your painting pace, in this hobby you have to do what works for you. At this rate you are on for 100 miniatures painted this year which is way more than most. As you say just getting a little bit done every day helps.

Thank you so much, everyone. Glad you guys are digging the Dreadnought and the overall look for the Marines. All the comments are much appreciated.

A little bit of progress. On stuff that isn't what I was working on already. Yeah. Was feeling scattered. So I went and built and painted the Hoar Cats from Malifaux and the ETB Reivers I bought for their helmets, including a plasma pistol and power fist for the sergeant since I will most likely use them as Scouts in 2nd/3rd edition and I will totally shell out points for a plasma pistol/power fist because I am all about plasma weapons and power fists. And run-on sentences. Couple quick WiPs of some of the random nonsense.

Cats are done and up for varnish and bases. Hoping to knock out the Reivers quick, and that will be a squad, I guess. First one for the Marines. Other stuff as it comes.

Thanks for looking!

Great face! I always struggle with the contrast between recesses and raised areas on faces, but you’ve nailed it! I like how the terminators are shorter than the headless Reivers!

Thanks, guys!

gobert, contrast is no problem when it's in the name, I guess. Skin and hair are both Contrast over a white basecoat. Added a few highlights to the hair. Fairly quick, fairly satisfying, and it should do the job for a squad of bullet-stoppers. And yes, it is a good thing the runty Terminators will never see the field beside the Reivers. Or anyone else, really. They're nostalgic Space Hulk only.

Gulliman Flesh and Apothecary White. Both over a white basecoat. One coat. Went back and hit the hair strands with white, and a dab of Agrax in the eye socket and mouth to set the eye and teeth off.

Not Lorenzo. Never owned him. It is a Blood Angel of some sort, though. I bought a couple boxes of Sanguinary Guard for conversions, and my friend has a BA army and an aversion to Marines without helmets, so it would be from one of those sources.

Thanks for the comments, JamesY and Lamby! Appreciate you stopping in.

Some progress. Couple little things done. First the Hoar Cats for Malifaux. Bought since I figured they would go well with the rest of the snow stuff. Decided last Friday to assemble and paint on a random whim. So there's that.

And finished the first Teraton for Dreadball.

Hope the rest of the team follows suit quickly.

And the raw model for the Reaper.

Part of my KS pledge included multiple copies of this guy, so having one preserved but still presentable seemed a thing to do. Alternate color schemes in the future.

And some stuff that is in the works. Marines, turtles, and another Dread. Now, it isn't entirely tzurk's fault that I am starting the process of working on this now. Sort of. It was going to happen someday, right? And what better time to paint my other Dreadnought than coming off the last one? It's tzurk's fault. Decided to go quad-o-cannons for this guy, as well. No magnets, though, and a different configuration. Had the turret from my Knights left over, so picked up another off a popular auction site and will see how those turn out.

That and other things await. Sharks, fungi, barbarian girls, Eldar. Who knows what will happen. Stay safe, everybody. Thanks for looking!

Thanks, guys! The Teraton skin is just Snakebite Leather Contrast over a Menoth White base coat that was dry brushed with white. It is another one of the standouts in the Contrast range, I think.

tzurk, I am looking forward to seeing the Beholder done, too. I was lucky enough to grab one when it came out, decided on a look for it, and then it sat in it's package for months. For shame.

Page rollover! Thread needs pictures badly. Finished a couple things. Nothing too major, but forward momentum is good. First, two steps backward. I have owned a few Gundam models over the years. This was the first, and still my favorite Gundam. God Gundam (Burning Gundam in the US), 1/144 scale. I never went for the panel lining or any detailing before or since. Years ago, we were giving a game called Monster Island a try, a quick little game where you statted up a creature using build points and threw down in a free-for-all brawl reminiscent of old Godzilla movies. So I decided it was time to trick out my favorite Gundam, complete with base, which looked like the back nine with it's pretty green grass and manicured sand trap. Sigh. So, I was never really satisfied with the look overall. For some reason, that came to a head last weekend, and now he has plenty of wear and tear, and a brand new base that doesn't look freshly mowed. NOW it's done. I dislike revisiting projects, distracts from the now and all that, but I am much happier with it now. One day I will build and detail the 1/100 version. One day...

THIS HAND OF MINE IS BURNING RED!

Also completed the Sergeant for the Scouts/Reivers. Wearing a sneakier color scheme. For sneaking. 1 down, 4 to go.

And finished Betty from Relic Knights. Lug to follow. Soon-ish?

Fun stuff. Soft detail.

And a couple WiP shots.

Also have finished 3 more Teratons. Just need to varnish.

And I dug up a few more relics from my collection for the Retro thread. Here they are in case you aren't following that one. If not, you should. Lots of great history there.

Space Marine characters in Terminator armor.

Regular marines.

BFG Eldar battleship.

Chaos lavatory.

Chaos Champions.

The Frightastic Four.

All that remains of my Warmaster armies, including a fun Chaos Champion with Minotaur bodyguard.

Plenty more to do. Stay safe and sane, everyone. Thanks for looking!

So much progress! I love it. That Gundam model looks great, got quite a few from the Iron Blooded Orphans series I'm tempted to try my hand at painting but everytime I think of it I look at my unfinished 40k stuff and feel shame. Loving the style on the Betty model, looks straight out of a cartoon, good job on achieving that effect.

Always love seeing those old GW sculpts with "modern" paintjobs. Those old space marines walk a very thin line between cool and goofy, but your paintjob makes them look outstanding. And I second you on the Snakebite Leather, lovely color, although until now I have only used it for leather parts.

The WIP on that Deathwatch head is great, don't fancy painting up a load like that for my Lions do you ?

The Gundam looks great, I know nothing about that particular line of toys/comics/animated series but the paintwork and changed base look great. The Reiver is solid as well as a great effort with the yellow on Betty, always such a pain of a colour.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane as well

It's a lot of fun seeing your retro minis, but I enjoyed seeing your Gundam most of all. It brings back a lot of memories, though I never got as into G Gundam as the other series around its time. Nice work on the other minis too, I like the scout sergeant.

Loving the darker look for the scouts, very sneaky! Betty must be double hard, what with being able to carry a minigun... which is a good job as she’s got about 0.5secs of ammunition! She’ll be using the gun as a cudgel!

Thank you very much for the comments, guys. Glad you like seeing the old stuff. My heyday was from RT through 3rd, and while I have stayed up with and involved in the hobby since, a lot of my collection would be considered old school.

ListenToMeWarriors, the skin was very easy. It is two drops of Snakebite Leather and one drop of Wyldwood, both Contrast colors, over a white undercoat. I plan to hit the lip with a bit of color and get the eyes and a couple details on the earpiece, but this is pretty much done.

Thanks again, everyone.

I’m with you on the brass bull, it I should just screaming to be finished, not the best model in the world, but it is definitely cool.

The contemptor I would level the guns on an enemy. I think the one thing that makes the dreadnought a possible beast is that the construction would facilitate not having to balance itself like a human does when walking. I think the frame would auto compensate for weight distribution and recoil so it could advance at full while unloading a massive amount of firepower. Just my two cents. I know dreads have gone from great to awesome no poor in the different editions, so I’m not sure how effective they are now.

Fortunately, I only kept the five shown. The rest will be RTB9s and some 2nd ed Deathwing metals. At least that is the plan. Stealers are all original plastics. That could be a chore. Think I will plan a soft cap of 20. Pretty sure I have more than that, but 20 seems doable with Contrast. And one is already done! 4 more are awaiting details. Why am I doing this? I haven't played Space Hulk in well over 15 years. Guess if I ever play again I would like it to be with painted models.

That’s a good mix of WIP, should keep you busy for a while and plenty of variety to boot! Will the Space Hulk terminators be joining your chapter or will they be as per the original Blood Angels scheme?

YouWaShock's Models 5/27 Spaceships and a Zoat @ 2020/05/19 22:22:25

Post by: youwashock

The original plan was to have all the Terminators be from my chapter. Then, a friend gave me some vintage Deathwing models he found while moving. Since they don't fit at all with the rest of my Space Marines, I figured they could go in the Space Hulk pile. But, they are Deathwing...hmmm...nothing says all the squads have to be from the same chapter. This led to the plastic abomination Terminators being drafted into the Imperial Fists. Test model worked out ok. Quick. Dirty. At the very least, they will be painted.

Yeah. They aren't the finest Sneech on the beach, but they'll suit their purpose should they ever be called to do so.

New page. Need some pics. Been working. Lots going on, and a few things finished. First up, Beef Metal.

Brass Bull from Reaper. I hate Reaper. Endless models with no context that I somehow can't keep from buying. Bought a half dozen more this weekend. Like I need more models. Like I need a clear dragon and a couple random gals in armored thongs. Sigh. Anyway, I wanted this thing, and was inspired enough to paint it and work up the basing to match the blasted integrated bases Reaper loves so bad. Fun model. Simple paint, but he's in the books.

Sabretooth Cerberus from Malifaux. Weird model. Looks odd from just about any angle. Another buy with no plan. Figure it fit with the rest of the snow crew. Painted and on the shelf with the rest. To reiterate, never played the game. Not once. But anything is possible, so I guess it is good that almost all the models I have felt compelled to own seem to work together.

And last but certainly not...well, not quite least, the test model for the Space Hulk Imperial Fists.

The rest will hopefully be hot on his heels. Have four more 'Stealers waiting for varnish, and a gunslinging lady from Malifaux. Beholder. Teratons. Mushroom queen. Avatar. Ugh. Projects abound. So let's talk about one more.

When the Lelith Hesperax model was redesigned, I was pretty sure I couldn't live without it, despite not playing DE anymore (I barely did in the first place, but, Eldar) so I picked it up shortly after it was released. Assembled, primed, and base coated in an olive green for what was planned to be a rich but slightly off skin tone. And so she stayed on the shelf until yesterday. Inspiration pounced and work began in earnest.

The green base coat dry-brushed white.

Then washed with a roughly 50/50 mix of medium and Druchii Violet.

Some small details picked out in black and some areas of interest hit with white again. She is just about ready for the Contrast. Interested in seeing how the whole thing will turn out. At the very least, she will finally be done.

More soon. Thanks for looking!

Canned beef! I really like the brass bull. The hooves could certainly have been sculpted better, but you know what you are getting with Reaper who tend towards quantity over quality.

The Cerberis is an odd one. Great painting but I would have almost guessed it was a Reaper mini from the apparent lack of detail. The base is boss though, grand job.

That Fist belongs in any modern Marine army, he looks great.

Also great to see your technique on Lelith, she is coming along great.

Like the saber tooth cerebus, something I would buy just because.

Lilith was a model I always wanted, then it went finecast. Maybe one day.

YELLOW . Just kidding, at least they don’t need to turn the lights on in the Hulk.

Cool idea for lelith’s skin, colour me intrigued to see how it works out.

The Fist Terminator looks fantastic. I knew his shoulder pads and Bolter were unusual, but that power fist, now I see it all painted up... it really is odd! Still can’t wait to see the odd bunch all complete though

That's a nice pair of beasts there, love the metal on the bull and nice mixing of browns and greys on the fur of the cerberis.
Seems that your Lelith had a similar fate to mine - got some base colours down then she's been in a drawer ever since. Good to see yours is finally getting some love

Well, Cap'n, they are pretty heinous. But, they're done!

Wrapped up some things. Rollover! Pics!

First, the Terminators in question.

And with the sergeant.

Also wrapped up four more 'Stealers.

And a shot of them in their natural environment.

Finished the Teratons for Dreadball with these guys.

And the team all together. The Tartarus Thundershells.

Seen here facing off against the LexxCorp Kryptonites. Champion is about to give Holt Kazed a piece of his mind. Or a left hook.

And finally, a Malifaux gunsmith I have named Frost. Oh, Malifaux. Why your legs so long? Why the teeny, tiny parts? Skipped the sword she came with, as it was roughly the thickness of a human hair. Subbed in another pistol taken from the male model in the box, who was less appealing and frankly boring. He's parts.

Contrast is the name of the game for all these guys. Results I can live with, speed I could get used to. Plenty more still on the go. Always more minis. Thanks for looking!

51 minis! That's really impressive output. I really like the gunsmith model but I agree with you about the spindliness of Malifaux models. I also noticed that in most kits there was always one boring sculpt that didn't live up to the standards of the first two - look at the three Wastrels that come with Kincade (sp?) for example, or the three different Death Marshalls (although I think those models have been updated since I played last).

Never got much into Malifaux, mostly because my flatemates at the time (who are dear, dear friends by the way) were some of the best players in the state, and so the learning curve was pretty steep! That said, once you got them put together, I thought they had some pretty great sculpts - one of them is your gunsmith!

I'm always amazed how you can produce such good looking minis in so little time! Just wow.

Frost is looking really good. Especially the... chest section turned out well, and I really love the turquoise color. Makes the model pop!
Been browsing some of those Malifaux minis and they seem pretty cool. Not sure where I would use them, but they could be fun to paint.
Looking at the original model, I think skipping the sword was a good idea.

Ah! A beholder. After seeing a bunch of them going around in this forum, they are becoming one of my favorite monsters.

Thanks, guys!

Ezki, it sure doesn't feel fast sometimes...like Lelith's base STILL not being done. Soon.

But, these guys are done, so on with the pics.

Blood Bowl Treeman, who the kids have been referring to as Groot. Guess he am Groot.

Goofy old sculpt. Nothing too spectacular, but he goes fine with the Wood Elves. Third tree I've painted to stand with those guys. First actual BB tree. Why? No idea.

And finished pics of the Beholder. Figure everybody needs one of these. Just too iconic. Pretty good sculpt, too. Lots of chunky texture. As usual, the cheap plastic guys are better when bigger.

BEHOLD!

THE EYES HAVE IT!

FEAST YOUR EYES!

OK. All done.

Like I said, Lelith is right at the cusp of being finished. Mushroom, shark, Ainoa, Dread. The list goes on. Thanks for looking!

Great job on Lilith. The olive base really gives her a unique skin tone. I'm not sure how to describe it - she doesn't look unhealthy, but she does look like she's been through some stuff and might be only a few soul snacks away from breaking down again. Thank you! I enjoyed seeing her come together. Now for a sharp left turn into something totally unrelated to anything shown so far.

Seeing models from Limbo Division online, I decided to seek them out for myself. I found their online store (I think Limbo minis is theirs, too. for fantasy stuff. LD 209 seems to be sci-fi-fi. not a ton of info out there about these guys.), and finding the prices acceptable, ordered the two available models, hoping they weren't a scam. I had no idea they were coming from fershlluganah China, so it has been a bit, but they did indeed arrive.

Nice. What's inside?

Oooohhh...pretty. It seems these guys are going for the limited boutique feel, similar to Kingdom Death. Actually, it seems they are looking to out-Kingdom-Death Kingdom Death. Scantily clad 35 mm pin-up girls, extra thicc, fancy packaging, character art cards, small resin print runs, zippo for context right now. Seems familiar. But instead of stamped craft cardboard boxes, we have screen printed metal tins, and instead of cardstock, the art cards are printed on a plastic material more like credit cards. So far, the quality is there. My initial inspection shows clean casts, nice detail, no missing parts (thankfully).

My anaconda don't want none... 36-24-36? Only if she's 35 mm.

These are pretty sweet.

Looking forward to painting these soon. The plan is to push these toward the front of the queue. Have I mentioned I hate resin? Wish they would stop making models I want in it...

Also, posted a few pics of 54 mm =][= models in the OOP thread. Shared here for why nots.

Questionable choices several years old. I threw myself on Inquisitor like a live hand grenade when it was released. Still haven't painted a single model. Hobby paralysis is a real thing. I hope that working through more models, tracking progress, having the dakka community to share with, will all make painting these things a possibility, as well as assembling the few that are still pieces.

Thanks for the comments and thanks for looking!

Metal models always remind me of the early days of our hobby and the old big metal chunk that was my friend's Space Wolf Dreadnought.
It weighted a ton and its big arms would drop off in every game. Partly because we were young and did not know how to pin or otherwise strengthen the bond.

Awesome! More metal Terminators! There’s something about their weight that is just so satisfying. That captain model looks a really cool sculpt, he’ll look great all in yellow. It’s good to see some more progress on your green marines too

Thanks, guys.

Metal > resin. All day. Although so far the LD lady has been ok. Probably the quality of the cast. I was surprised I was able to get them, as well, when i saw how limited the run was. For anybody interested, their new release either just went on presale or will very shortly. Cosplay homage girl. And her mech.

Metal models are the solid foundation of the hobby. I have just been spoiled by all the plastic these days.

I totally hear you on being spoiled by plastic - being able to get a mold line off without pulling out a file is hard to beat. But I like back in third when all my troops were plastic, but all my HQs and elites were a much heavier, much more substantial pewter - it made them feel more important!

I have a sock full of metal dreadnoughts that say metal is better than resin any day of the week.

I love the newer Contemptor dreads. Almost as much as the old Contemptor/Furibundus metal original dreads. I was upset when i watched a youtube video by miniac listing the ancient dread as ugly. He has no taste . He also didn't like the old Mordheim town Crier model , what is this world coming too.

Slow week, man. Thanks for the comments, guys.

I can't comment on the game value of the Zoat, since I don't own BSF. The price for just the model seems a little steep, but that's GW. Dig the sculpt (there's even gem looking things on the glove), with one small exception, which I have addressed here:

Wasn't too thrilled with the stunted taser they gave him, so I had immediate plans to switch that up. Problem is, my initial replacement was too big, and dated in its sculpt. Didn't mesh. Plan B...I don't own. Thought I did. Have to look into that at some point. So it was digging time, and this is what I came out with. I'm ok with it now. On to the rest of the assembly.

Thanks for looking!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And here he is all together next to a Reiver for scale. Neat, but it wouldn't have killed me to get a smidge more plastic for my 60 clams.

Nostalgia won this round. Thanks for looking.

Similar profile, but all-around larger. Especially width-wise. The hips, they don't lie.

Modded weapon looks good and the sculpt in general is really nice. May cave at some point, still haven't played one game of Blackstone Fortress, but he is usable in 40k and should fit perfectly into a Inquisitor retinue

it's not scale creep, It's a scale condition . Poor beast needs medical attention.

No, it really is silly how models have grown and grown over the years. People want to complain about how bad old sculpts are, but to get those details on the smaller figs, some details got lost.

Yes, Viterbi. Perfect for an Inquisitor's retinue. Due to the differences in scale and size, he is destined for the =][=28 shelf. And he will be the first =][=28 model painted, seeing as how the models that started this blog still aren't. One day...

Old sculpts bad? I say! Thankfully, people around here have a healthy appreciation for the classics. Theo, here's some old sculpts in all their small, less-detailed glory.

gobert, there will certainly be green, but red will probably be for details and accents. Present, but not looking to dive back into the GW GREEN/RED age.

This page needs finished models. Fortunately, I have finally wrapped a few up. First, the next Reiver/Scout.

Three to go. Next, some Brotherhood Troopers from Warzone.

And with the one painted previously, using a different technique. He...sorta...fits...in...

Eh. I can live with it. And last, but certainly not least, the Mushroom Queen. Blasted Reaper.

And a couple WiP pics showing what will hopefully be coming up.

By thunder, that Avatar's gonna get painted one of these days... Also the Contemptor. And...too much other stuff. One mini at a time.

Thank you!

The Mushroom Queen is a BONES model, possibly BONES Black.
She balances ok, but I was putting her on a base so that wasn't a concern for me.

The holder for the Space Marine head is like an x-acto handle, but holds small pins instead of blades. It is sort of like a pin vice that doesn't turn. There's probably a name for it that I can't recall.

Pics for the rollover.

The Reiver looks badass, the work on the face is phenomenal. No ide who/what they are but the blue powersuit sniper unit look great. Thank you so much, everyone!

She's blushing like the belle of the fungal ball.

ListenToMeWarriors, they are Brotherhood Troopers from the latest edition of Warzone. The Prodos edition. The Brotherhood are the holy roller faction. Faith, repentance at the barrel of a gun, mystic powers. While Warzone certainly predates Antares as an IP, I don't know if the newest version came out first or second. The Brotherhood have kept the same look, for the most part, just evolving as sculptors and technolgies change.

Purple Zoat! Could work.

Thanks for the comments! New page. Guess it is good I was able to get pics of the latest minis. Nothing that will set the world on fire, but they are done. Up first, a Deathwing Terminator. Finished one to see how the rest will go. Gritty, but I like it a bit.

Next a pair of Silent Ones for Malifaux. These gals suffer greatly from Malifaux pair syndrome. One model, dynamic, cool, interesting. The other? She'll take two of something while she waits for the bus. Even her cape is bored. Almost skipped painting her like I did with Frost's partner. Strange how a set of minis can come with one that is so good, and the other is hardly worth the bother of assembling. Just the Ice Dancers to go, now. Sort of looking forward to seeing the cold minis all done.

Finishing off with Ainoa the Unforgiven, a limited edition model from Rackham produced for Brookhurst Hobbies, one of the first US outlets for Confrontation back in the early days. Did some different things, playing around. With dubious results. Oh, well.

As always, plenty more on the go. Painting time was sparse again this week. Up over 600 images in the gallery. Yay.

Thanks for looking!

I really like the colour for thre Deathwing. I prefer a white finish to a bone one, especially as most people overdarken the bone and it lands up both way too warm and way too saturated.

I really see what you mean about the poses. Do you need both for the game, or can you just use one of them?

Thanks, Fifty.

I think you could just use one. I am pretty fuzzy on all Malifaux rules, having never played.

Deathwing looks awesome.

The Malifaux silent ones came out stunning. Really like the white of their capes.

Never got into confrontation. Just never was a style I could get behind. Years later the wolves have grown on me, but would only know because of CMoN figures.

Great job on the Deathwing terminator. Like the grime on him - with the base it looks like he's been doing some urban footslogging.

Totally hear you on Malifaux pairs - the Death Marshalls had one who looked like he was falling backwards off his coffin, the Lucas Kincade starter set had one wastrel who didn't fit the aesthetic of the other two at all, all sorts of problems. Ah well, maybe they do it on purpose to make the other model look that much better.

Edited for spelling

The Deathwing Terminator looks awesome, really really grimdark! He almost looks to be walking down a dimly lit corridor of a Space Hulk. His eyes are really nice, what colours did you use for them?

gobert, the eye socket was filled with Contrast BA Red, then the eye was painted with Army Painter's basic red (forget the name), then a dot of Fire Dragon Bright for the center.

Terminator looks very menacing, you can feel those eyes burning into your skull.
And yeah, the one pose of the Maulifax mini is very weird. Were they taking bets between the designers how far they could go before someone stops them?

Thanks, Viterbi.

Thankfully, the Ice Dancers do not suffer from MOMS (Malifaux "Other-Model" Syndrome). One sculpt is clearly superior, but the other isn't throwaway trash.

Quick WiP. Other stuff going on, but these two are showing the most progress.

Are the Contemptor weapon arms a kitbash? if so they look great.

Ainoa does not look dubious at all, I really like the extreme highlights and contrast (not the citadel paint, damn you GW!) on the miniature. The eyes are especially effective. Throw in a couple of great Malifaux minis (those capes are done really well) and a Terminator that has clearly seen some action in the depths of a Space Hulk and it is all excellent work.

Thank you!

This week has been horrid for painting progress. But!

What's the best thing to do when you aren't painting? Buy minis. Yeah.

As I have painted all of 6 models from my double-Marine 8th edition set, I made sure to not buy Indomitus. Especially since I haven't played 40K in 4 or 5 years. And that was a couple games of 3rd edition. However, I wanted a Judiciar, and someone on ebay had one bundled with the LT, who is also a pretty cool mini, so I grabbed those up for roughly the price of one character model these days. Like most, I plan on tweaking the Judiciar, and will most likely change up the LT as well. If he ever gets painted.

YouWaShock's Models 5/27 Spaceships and a Zoat @ 2020/08/01 18:28:30

The judicair is the stand out model of the set, IMHO. With the LT a solid runner up. (I prefer the chaplain over the Lt, but admit to being biased towards out zealous friends)

Nev, I would be inclined to agree. The Judiciar is one of those models that will be all over soon enough. Tons of potential. However, he also seems to be "not quite" for many of us. See below.

Viterbi, I use black Micron pens for my lettering and purity scribbles. I don't lay anything out beforehand, but may take a practice lap on a scrap of paper or something.

Still having a painting lull, so I worked on getting the Judiciar modifications out of my head.

Nothing too major. Thanks for looking!

Thanks, everyone.

He does look the action hero. I have made a mental link between him and The Paladin/Grendel Prime from Grendel:War Child. Especially since deciding on the head.

The inside of the helmet is hollowed out a bit, but most of the space is taken up by fingers, so no detail there. I did drill out the breathing tube. This detail will most likely be missed, as it is barely noticeable while unpainted. Painted, it will disappear.

EDIT: Blast. Page flip. Better paint something quick. Here's Judy again.

Great Caesar's ghost... Seems like it has been a while. Between real life and dragging my feet, these last few guys took a bit to wrap up. BUT!

Another DW Terminator finished. More on the rest in a minute.

Also the Imperial Fists Captain. Heck of a mini. Straightforward Space Marine hero stuff. Glad to have it in the collection.

And finally, the Contemptor is done. Faito Gerron of the Angels of Truth. Formerly a member of the 1st Company Vanguard. Took a too-near miss from a Starcannon that left him medium rare and unable to fight on as he had. Stabilized on the battlefield by the Apothecary, he held on long enough to be interred and now serves hot autocannon death to heretics alongside Ossus. 8 autocannons, no waiting. Real glad this guy is done. Seemed to drag on.

And a couple WiP pics. Including the rest of the DW Terminators, whose bodies are all done...

They just need to be...armed.

Plenty to do. Thanks for looking!

Adore that Imperial Fists Captain, the armour and power sword are especially good. The most amazing thing to me is probably the most perfect storm bolter barrel drilling that I have ever seen! My main fear on drilling bolter is always going a bit wonky or not quite straight...you nailed it here.

Love the Contemptor. Was it much work replacing the lazy, poorly detailed head on the original sculpt? I assume that head is from the Venerable Dread kit? The freehand on the scroll work looks great.

Nice to see more Deathwing done as well, he is not far from having 4 more battle brothers with him as well. Loving the purple on Thunderthighs Mcgee as well...you can never have too much purple.

Post by: youwashock

Thanks, everyone!

ListenToMeWarriors, replacing the head was no problem. Just slice off the old one and carve out the alcove to fit. It let me get a better face in there, and have him not staring straight ahead. The base model is so stiff, anything helps.

Cap'n, I buy pretty sporadically. A couple minis here, a couple there. It still adds up, but not as much as buying squads or games worth. Incoming now are just the limited Sister and Terminator from months ago. Only plans to buy are a few CAV minis because a friend wants to try it and the expected new Lelith Hesperax whenever or if ever that happens. Unfortunately, I had no such restraint in past years, and if I never buy another model I could live for a hundred years and not finish them. Minor exaggeration.

Thanks for the comments, guys!

Thank you!

mcmatilla, it's too late. I had planned to do more with the bases, and if you look back at the Genestealers that are done, they have more going on, detritus, pulled up panels, etc. Then I realized that I didn't feel like going through that extra prep for these guys. Maybe for some more of the Genestealers, but for the Terminators I decided I could live with just the mesh.

And speaking of which, here's two more Deathwing. Two more to go. I am pretty sure the one guy's load-out was legal at some point. He's just for fun, anyway. An homage to earlier days. And the result of having one extra Terminator and too many heavy weapons.

Great shot of that mold line. Eh, maybe it's a panel line. It isn't.

Also finished the first lady from Limbo Division. Hayley Barrett, Anti-Material Rifle Gunner. Whatever that means.

She makes a nice first impression for the company. I may look to buy more of their minis in the future. Their next model doesn't really do it for me, but they have more on the way, I hear.

In other news, I may have done something...rather rash. Few bad weeks at work and the general gloom of existence these days prompted me to buy a lot of models to smash together into a small force of Exodites. Inspired by the rather excellent minis that show up here, I decided to try my own take. I had a squad of Dragon Knights in 2nd, which have since been stripped and disassembled to await he day of inspiration. Maybe they will get re-done soon, too. I have a selection of box sets and extras that will be brought into play with this project, as well. Wyches, Triumvirate, Scourges, Harlequins, Cauldron, White Lion Chariot plus whatever else I can find. Have plans for a Carnosaur, Drycha-nought, some Wraithguard, unit of dragons and a couple small bands of fighters based on the Blood Bowl Wood Elves. Could be a disaster. Certainly no need here for taking on a project of this magnitude for no purpose other than to build and paint the models. Wasn't cheap, even shopping around. Will certainly disrupt current plans. But I hope to remain diligent, and to wrap up a couple small things before getting started. Time will tell, but currently excited to get to it. So much for not adding too much to the pile.

As always, thanks for looking!

Sweet work on the Deathwing Terminators, I’m pretty certain you used to be able to do cyclones and assault cannons on one Marine back on 2nd! The lens on the targeter looks great!

Haley is looking good too, her wrench-gun is unusual, but she’s rocking it! Just like she’s rocking the paint job, her armour has a nice high gloss effect.

The exodites sound interesting, there’s certainly a few sources of inspiration on here. You certainly have the kits to build them!

Thanks, you two! I am curious to see how it turns out, too. Took some time last night to gather up all the stuff I already had on hand that could be mined for Project:Exodus. Most of these are only missing a model or two, or the odd bit, as they were purchased primarily (and frivolously) for the purpose of maybe one day being turned into something else. For some of them, that day is rapidly approaching.

Currently have available:

Wyches
Scourges
Death Masque (Eldar half)
White Lion chariot
Witch Elves
Daemonettes (probably only for the odd head or hair piece)
Triumvirate of Ynnead
4 Lhamaeans of dubious casting quality
Dark Elf Sorceress
Shadowseer
various bits like a handful of Avengers/Guardians and what is left from the Wraithknight

Also have a Genestealer Magus that may come into play. Less sure about this one, but I threw it in, just in case.

To this, I added and am awaiting the arrival of:

Start Collecting: Eldar
Drakespawn knights
Carnosaur
Blood Bowl Wood Elves
Mistweaver Saih
Kurnoth Hunters x 2
Drycha

Will probably what until everything arrives to get started. Not sure how much new ground I will be breaking. Looking around online I have found that even ideas I thought were original are not, like putting a Farseer helmet on Saih. Oh, well.

Thanks again, everyone. Hope to have more to show soon.

I love the effect on the base, well executed.

Oh man, Exodites! Really excited to see what you get around making.
Seems you have a really good collection of bits and models for that project.

Seems like the bug really bit you. I know the feeling when you just "have to have all these bits and kits" for a big project and the ideas just keep on flowing and you end up buying a ton.
Happened a few times: first with the orky vehicles and now with Necromunda.

Maybe following this will motivate me to finally finish my Witch Elf Wyches that have been sitting unpainted for three years now.

Good luck on the project! As if you need any

That is quite some list of miniatures to form the basis of your Exodites. I did a google image search on them and there is some excellent work and ideas to be inspired (or if it were me just plain copy them) by. Mostly it looks like the old toy line I had in the late 80's called Dino Riders, and that is a good thing.

Sensible to wait for your new arrivals before getting started, but I am excited to see where this goes. Any ideas on your main colours for the Eldar and assorted reptiles?

For some reason I just love the idea of a hand held targeter being important for hightech scifi missiles, it's just too cool to care about being outdated

Great paintjobs too.

Anti-material rifle gunner means your pants literally get blown off you when you fire the gun . Nice work on the purple suit .

Those deathwing terminators are great, nice gritty color scheme to them.

DINO RIDERS! Thanks, guys!

I have been mulling over color schemes while I plan the conversions, and I know how some stuff will look, but the color scheme for the main troops is still undecided.

Trying to get some CAV quickly painted. I have a color scheme I like that is easy and quick to replicate. I look forward to seeing how it looks on the Pillager. Only a handful of models for this. Hope we like the game. At least I like the models, in case they wind up as shelf warmers.

Here we have an Obake and two Poltergeist tanks.

Ice Dancers are nearly done, Zoat in progress, more CAV prepped and ready to go, last Terminators. Always more in the works.

Thanks for looking!

CAV is new on me, but that is an awesome looking mech and future tanks. Really cool scheme, is it any particular named paints?

I also like the little hex plastic base protector thing, has it got an in game purpose?

Thank you!

ListenToMeWarriors, I don't know how much the base matters. I think it is for stability more than anything. The green is just a black basecoat drybrushed through GW's Dark Eldar greens. Incubi Darkness, Kabalite, Sybarite, and the dry one whose name I have forgotten at the moment.

Thanks for sharing the green recipe, it's a cool electric color. Also digging the window job, I like the purple tint.

The greens look amazing, especially if those are drybrushs. Wouldn't have thought one could get such nice results. I'm doing something wrong

I could’ve sworn they were metallic green, you’ve achieved a really nice effect with a simple recipe! That’s my kinda painting! I kinda want to see Zoat progress though, I opened mine today so need inspiration!

Thank you, everyone!

Zoat is in the mix. I have decided that instead of being the first Inq28 mini painted, he will be the first Exodite mini painted. I think he would be happier on the shelf with them. He will also be getting a feline companion he doesn't want. Quick progress pic. Thanks for looking!

Your stuff is looking stellar as always Youwashock. the DA terminators look nice and gritty. Glad I came back to see that you have the new Zoat to work on!

Awesome green on the mech(s), digging that zoat scale color. Also count me in the Exodite fan club

Yay! Zoat! I’d forgotten you were going Purple. Looking pretty awesome so far! Has it just been dry brush on the fleshy/scaly bits so far?

Purple Zoat looking good - I like that tone for a base coat, like gobert I'd ask for the method. It's a very naturalistic purple, sort of like a pit viper.

Thanks, guys!

Yorkright! Good to see you, man.

The purple started out with a weird greyish purple sample I received from Reaper. Then it is drybrushed up with Rakarth Flesh, the next tone up from that (some bone/unbleached titanium color) and Pallid Wych Flesh. Then a thinned wash of Druuchi Violet. After I get all the black areas blocked in I will go back and push the value scale a bit with some highlights on the face and chest and some Contrast purples in the recesses. The belly is just Rakarth washed with Druuchi right now. I will hit some highpoints in visible areas for more contrast. Not Contrast. That's different. In the end he will be a modern version of J. Grimlock, the previous purple Zoat, just older and without his herd.

That mech colour scheme is really effective! The drybrushing works really well with all those hard edges. And very excited to see those Exodites

Good to see progress on the Zoat. And will he have to solve crimes with his feline frenemy?

Thanks for the comments!

Viterbi, I feel I am missing a reference there. He won't be solving crimes, at this point in his life he is really looking to avoid excitement. That probably won't work out.

Few things done. More CAV. A Pillager, the mech that made me choose Malvernis as a faction if we ever get around to playing, and quite possibly my favorite mech in the game. Plus a couple Banshee tanks. Just Eldar enough for me.

And I finished the Ice Dancers, which wraps up all the Malifaux icy-persuasion models I own. Nice to have them done, and to see them all together. Everybody sing! "LET IT GO! LET IT GOOOOOO!!!"

Just about this () close to finishing the Deathwing, Zoat still going, have the first three infantry bases for CAV done and awaiting varnish, probably try to get the Judiciar going and the rest of the CAV force set before the last box for the Exodites gets here. Could be late into September, as it had to come from outside the continent.

As always, thanks for looking!
