Hey there.

As the title says this is the first scratch build I've attempted. I'm planning on creating a reaver much like the lucius version shown here:

Firstly I'm going to start by making it out of normal thin card, so I can get the dimension right, then once that is done, I will start again using plasticard so it’s more stable and I can detail it better.

Here are a few pics of what I've made so far, it’s about 2-3 hours work so far. I'd love to hear you're opinions as to what to change and also how I can construct the legs, I think that will be the most difficult part. The launcher on top I just whipped up in 5mins so it didn’t just look like I was showing a box

hey again.

I put another hour or so into this before working out how to progress with it.

I'm not sure what to use for the final version however, i could use some 2mm plasticard when it comes, or shoul di go thicker, maybe use plexiglass or something, anyone know what would be best to use?

I removed the silly launcher that was on before, and have a larger one on now.

Yep I'll be doing the final version in plasticard, with some foamboard for larger areas. I'm mocking it up with card so once its done, i can disassemble it and have a complete set of templates that i know work. Depending on how it goes I might make a little legion.

Unfortunatly the harridans on hold for now, I just can't decide on a scheme to re-do my nids in. I'm nearly there so, I'll do a log for that as well once the decisions made.

are you just using the foamboard? or are you going to give it a layer of plasticard over the top?

just started the re-painting process on my army, heres the new nurglesque scheme; (tendrils look shiny as they are still wet)

oh, and i dont wanna seem cheeky mate, but if the templates work out, think i could get a copy of them please?
spent ages looking for titan templates, but only ones i can find are on sites with alot of junk and viruses on em.

Thats a nice nid you'e got there, love the conversion, I'll look forward to seeing more of the. Keep at it and they'll all be done in no time.

It'll be a foam/plastic base, I'll then use plasticard ontop to do detailing, and anything else i can get my hands on.

If the work out, i'll probably make a copy onto the comp, that'll be a while off though, just remeber to remind me about them once its done i imagine the transition from the thin card templates will take a bit of altering for thicker material.

sounds good, most people forget to make a stable base lol, seen a friend spend 4 months building a 5 foot tall warlord titan only for it to collapse and snap in several places.

ok, thanks for that, most people seem to forget about the change in thickness and end up withparts that wont join.

Here's a little update.

While trying to figure out how to go on with the legs, I decided to start the top in plasticard and foam board, so I've got part of it done so far.

Theres quite a few gaps at the moment, so once the structure is done, i'll fill the gaps with milliput and smooth it off.

I've kind of figured out how I'm going to proceed with the legs, but if you fancy mocking uo some plans, I'm sure i could use them on the 2nd reaver for a bit of variation.

Just a warning. If you intend to spray paint your model remember that the foam inside the foamboard melt if sprayed. So make sure you cover all exposed foam before spraying.

Thanks for the warning, spraying will be a long time away though i think. Once the constructs done, I'll add another layer of platicard over, then milliput any gaps, The some more layers of plastic for panels and details.

good tip with foamcore, coat it in 3 - 4 layers of thin pva before spraying, this prevents metling 100%, oh, and just found someone who is going to email me over the plans for the warhound and reaver, so hopefully in a few days i can get started on a warhound or 2, then a reaver, if all goes well then ill start making a warlord and make the plans from scratch.

Thats a nice pair of titans you've got there, hopefully one day mine will be fnished like those two. (p.s i've sent an email)

I've put a bit more work in today, I've mocked up the top of the leg, I'll need to put another 4 panels on so its properly covered, I've put plasticard around the toes now as an initial layer, i still need to stick more on. God help me when i get to the time to put rivets on.

I just need to figure out the top two joints now, the top one will most ligely be similar to the bottom, and i'll construct some sort of hinge for the middle.

Legs are a bit thin but this should be rectified when you put leg armour on.

I think the Inferno cannon is over looked!

Match that with a Plasma blastgun and you will be cooking!!!

Yea there skinny atm, they will probably grow by 1 cm or so once its got proper panels on and details, then there will be a large plate bit on each one much like on the fw epic versions.

Now i just need some rods and i can start with pistons, i bet that will be fun.

Weapons, erm I'll probably go with one plasma, then perhaps i can have a try with lights, The maybe a vortex missile. I'm not really certain, I'll probably make atleast one of every weapon

anyone looking for templates I can help, I have a huge file of them on my pc, I can supply most 40k vehicle templates and varients on a few (I have a couple of differnt 'hound and Reaver templates).

I have Warlord templates but am too scared to attempt it.

@blinky: I'm not to sure about the weapons atm. I'll probably make atleasy one on each, I quite fancy doing duelgattling blaster because i think they look awesome.

@sleazy: THose are some great sratch build you've got there. I was origionally goin gto attempt the reaver as you and others have. But then for some reason I thought i' d go for the lucius version so it was dfferent That powerfist looks great as well.

@f74: love the gargant mate. I quite fancy having a go at one of them since it allows me to be as random as i want(within reason) there's not a set design so i can go to town

@ f74: no mate I have the Thawk plans in my Big file o tempate goodness, is coming along ok though, check out the scratch built rhino magnetised to the bottom.
