I think my fav short story, cannot find it or which book it was in, but it was about death world IG who just killed orcs for a living and they were breaking in a new guy

THe first 40k book i read was angeles fo death   good intro book shows marines, guard, eldar point of view.

ether that or let the galexy burn and posably what price victory

I recomend reading at least one of these they show the the difrent persenalites of the races that can be confuseing to someone who is not familear with 40k fluff and goes strate in to a single races view book.

Deathwing is a good short story collection that hits most of the essential elements of the 40K universe. Eisenhorn is less introductory, but is better-written and, I guess, more accessible for beginners.
