Over there... no, wait, AARGH!

It's not the Eldar 90ft thing (taller than a Warhound titan), it's if Space Marines were 6ft tall, I would be taller than them.

They're not six feet tall for one simple reason, everytime someone sees them they refer to them as armored giants, too big to be men.

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.

For those of you who remember Rogue Trader & 2nd edition, Ragnar Blackmane was described as being approximately 6 & half feet tall. However he was considered smalll for a space marine. For those of you who have access to Jes Goodwin's artbook, there is a photo at the back of the book that shows Jes with a 'to scale' height drawing of a space marine. If memory serves me correct, the height is about 7 1/2 feet tall with feet planted approximately 3 feet wide. If this were an average space marine then conclusion would be that they are about 8 feet tall in power armor.

Well, here is a picture for reference, note the standard sized file cabinet in the background.

If the baby marines are this big, just imagine how huge they get once they reach 1000.

I suppose part of the scaling is due to the fact that if they looked 8' tall (to scale say 32mm-35mm ish), they would look more like Strength/ Toughness 5 or 6 than their current 4 stats. I do think the normal humans look a bit too beefed up nower days though...
Vostrians look crap for a start.

Therefore the whole things gone to pot if you ask me

Not that anyone did

*checks sums: 28mm/6' = 4 +2/3 times 8 = a whopping 37(+)mm models Ouch!*

You could use the new Terminator plastics as standard marines if you were that worried about it

But if you line up a space marine with a Cadian guardsmen the space marine is only slightly taller. Only ~3mm (and that?s with no base on either model). So, using those proportions I'd say that they are about 6'5 pushing 7'. The reason why they seem to be Giants is probably to do with the Guardsmen impressions of them. Because in most of the fluff stories many of the guardsmen had never seen a space marine before in their lives. So, they must be in awe of the space marines because they seem to be these giants killing everything that comes near them. This is why people would think they are some sort of out rageous height like 9? tall.

No, people think they are 9' tall because they are repeatedly stated as being that tall in many different books. The Gaunts Ghosts books also puts them at over half a metric ton, unarmoured. This does make perfect sense, given that someone like Marius Pudjanowski weights 291 lbs. and is only 6'1. A 7' 6" tall genetically manipulated being that has armoured bones, a layer of neuralnet/armour under his skin (black Carapace), redundant organs and inhumane muscle density is easily going to weigh this much.
Basically, the fluff only gave a few million SM. When the fluff/continuity teams thought about how to have a million man force be so impressive that it can supplant the billion strong IG then you need ridiculousness like this.

That makes sence that the new termies are about the scale of power armoured marines. Gw just has not got the scale right. Take the rhinos. does it reall look like it could even fit the current M7 marines (ten) inside? I think not. I have seen people do true scale marines and they look so much better. Hard work but great if you have the patience and skill
