Yeah, I'd love to get the book for the art, but it's a bit expensive for something I'd just look at.

In for a set of witches at the moment.

I love the art John Wigley has produced for this. All hand drawn and painted with water colours. It's fething glorious.
I'd be sorely tempted to get the rulebook just for all his art.

Bit of a shame that it's only the Ved'ma at the moment. I was hoping the militia/monsters would be on offer too. But maybe they'll come in as stretch goals.

There’s the early bird militia figure but they did mention monsters and more militia will be revealed via stretch goals

Yeah just saw that myself. And the 1st update states that they have 24 SG's planned.

If the militia/pagans are aesthetically/quality wise in keeping with the 48hour freebie bloke, then I reckon i'll drop some cash on it. To be entirely honest, i'm sort of more interested in them then the Ved'ma/evil critters.

EDIT- A comment from one of the creators a few minutes ago just mentioned that Pagans would be the first faction added to the rulebook via stretch goals and would add about 20 pages worth of rules. So I take that to mean the already 200 page rulebook only include general rules and rules for the Ved'ma (and one assumes monsters, because the Ved'ma aren't fighting by themselves). Not quite sure how I feel about that. Depending on how many factions they end up adding via stretch goals could bloat the RB out quite a bit. That's going to blow shipping out too as books aren't light and therefore not cheap to ship.

Looks like slavic folklore is the new fad. Gonna be a few more games and a few more KS on it this year.

Despite funding handsomly, they've cancelled the project for now:

To all our Supporters,

First, we want to thank everybody for their support – you've confirmed everything we suspected. With John's artwork, Chris's writing and Andy's rules, we have a great game in Coven and a suitably grim and dark fantasy world in The Cauldron.

However, having listened to your feedback over the last couple of days, we now realise we haven’t brought enough miniatures to this project. The message we are receiving is you don’t just want the rulebook. You also want lots of models to go with it.

Initially, we had designed the game to be miniature agnostic and presumed that people would ‘kitbash’ their forces around the Ved’ma (we certainly had fun putting play test forces together) until we could start releasing the different factions. With the imagery for the game as strong as it is, it has been made clear that you want the pictures turned into miniatures for the tabletop now.

Although we have successfully funded, we can tell that the offer we currently have is not quite what you wanted it to be, and we need to go away, put our heads together and create that.

We have been blown away by your support and enthusiasm, and it is only fair we come back with a Kickstarter that mirrors your positivity, does justice to the dark world of Coven and matches your expectations. Therefore, we have made the decision to cancel this Kickstarter, rest assured you won’t be charged anything, and we will see you again soon.

Well..... That's a bit gak. Although I can certainly appreciate the intent behind it. I was in it for the rulebook and was considering bumping up my pledge if/when they put the militia up.

I guess this is a bit of a boon though. I can save my pennies and get a larger pledge at a later date.

That's a shame, but I was surprised it didn't launch with more minis up front.

Sounds a bit daft,

if they really wanted to expand the mini offering they could have done a swift(ish) second kickstarter for new minis (and offering the preexisting rule book from KS1)

Yeah, my enthusiasm for the project is waning somewhat now I know I have to wait potentially a few months before they even re-launch the KS, and probably beyond that before I get my rules.

BUT their KS for Baron's War was well run and I got my minis in plenty of time, so hopefully I can rekindle said 'thusiasm.

Love the concept and imagery. I do agree with most people in that they want more minis. I don’t mind kitbashing the militia/cultists human minis, but some of the monsters are so unique and cool looking I can’t imagine how you could adequately replicate them without being an expert sculptor.

The cost was also a lot for someone in the States. For the book and the six Vedma shipped it would have been nearly 150 dollars.

Damn, Been awhile!

I remember the first game. IIRC, there's a bunch of Gladiators on the horizon and a well known Dominar.

Great to see a great game get issued a new set of legs. I'd really like to see this one hit markets!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

It's something I'm definitely interested in but I'll have to get some stuff painted first. I fear that I might be falling behind on my goals nowadays.

And is it just me, or does the one in the middle of set 1 with the net at first glance look like it's armed with a chicken?

I'm hoping, once Gangs of Rome v2 delivers, that a North American store or two will carry it. Shipping is steep from the UK. Not unfair, just more than I want to spend.

Looks like there's a fantasy expansion coming for Baron's War. So far, only Orcs V Humans are currently known using the existing Baron's War range:

All sculpted by Paul Hicks who's done pretty much most of the Baron's War range

Another preview:

The elite bodyguard of the White Seer are the warriors of the Widow Blade. These fierce fighters are recruited from the widows of the heroes of Byland. Although they lost their husbands to battle while defending the Dark Path, they have not lost their strength or courage. Determined to protect the White Seer and their people, no matter the cost, these warriors are feared by their enemies and revered by their own. Rumours swirl of their deadly skills, yet they symbolise hope and strength to their people. Embodying the resilience of the human spirit, the Widow Blade are a force to be reckoned with.

They are the White Seer's most trusted allies and would never hesitate to lay down their lives for her.

I am really liking the look of the new fantasy line. It suits my vision of Middle Earth quite nicely.

I can see the Orcs being popular with the Lord of the Rings gamers.More options for the larger forces.
Any info on the other Coven Fantasy KS they were doing?

Still being worked on. Found this comment under this preview image from Andy:

Coven is a separate venture between John Wigley, Mark Farr, Chris Bone and me. We are still having miniatures sculpted (we currently have 30+) and finalising the force lists. It’s on its own trajectory.

Great to see that it is still in the works.30+ miniatures is a good start to the range.

Awesome stuff! I hope these are not too cost prohibitive to make up some units for own middle earth collection! I'll have to add some of these as commanders at the very least! But I'd loved to do some big old unit blocks of these!

Check their other Kickstarters for an idea of costs:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hobbers/the-barons-war-3-28mm-medieval-miniatures/description

Sounds like these are meant as a fantasy expansion to their Baron's War ranges either way. New Kickstarter is currently estimated to start after Christmas at some point.
