Field more tac squads by saving points in equipment.
It's a opportunity cost balancing act basically.

Kind of? I mean, it is the choice each player will need to make for themselves.
But me? I favour that extra flexibility and the opportunity it brings to my overall, game to game, turn to turn options.
I’m not dead set against specialisation. If I was, I wouldn’t have Twin Plasma Cannon and Twin Conversion Beamer Contemptors. But those fit a specific role in my list, that of early game annihilation. Between them, there’s not an awful lot gonna walk away from their tender ministrations. And their mere presence might well force my opponent into a more conservative deployment.
But my Tactical Squads? Those I want the flexibility on. They’re of course primarily there to deal with enemy infantry, and the control of Objectives. Add those Bayonets and the Combi-Grenade discussed so far? And they can now do more than before. And I see that as a worthwhile investment.

Hmm, for whatever reason I never thought about it. Probably old 40k habits of combi-GL not existing or the fact that I modeled most of my sergeants for assault. But yeah, it's quite cheap, negligible even, and could swing a fight or two ! But so unreliable though.
I agree that the psychological effect could be worth the 5th although !

Though I should hasten to point out that as with anything, I will be asking myself “where are those five points coming from”.
If those 5 points are the difference between fielding a further Contemptor, or that upgrade? It’s the Contemptor, every time. But when we’ve loose points after bunging in our favourites? Upgrade o’clock, baby!

Yeah but unlike the bayonet upgrades, this one is really cheap, like maybe 15 points for 3 squads ? That's unlikely to be an issue, where 2 points for a chainbayonet can quickly add up

I’d say my approach is not seeing the Chain Bayonets as an option, but as an upgrade.
The Combi-Grenade is something that might work. And for 5 points totally worth the risk.
The Chain Bayonets however fundamentally shift what that unit can achieve in a game.
Without them, the Legion Tactical has two main uses. Holding objectives, and engaging enemy infantry enmasse at range.
With them? I now have a fairly competent close combat unit. Not a “oh no, everyone run and hide” close combat unit. But one which on the charge is surprisingly efficient, wounding most infantry on a 3+ with a re-roll.
That’s something I can factor into my overall strategy. It allows that unit to drive enemies from an objective and seize the objective at the same time. And because I’ll be looking to charge into combat in that situation? I’m getting the extra charge move to boot. And unlike a Legion Assault Squad, I retain all their original firepower, which can be ferocious.

Yeah, but again the bayonets are not actually cost effective for that.
If you want to drive the enemy from an objective, the 100~ off points spent on bayonets are better spent on anything else. Even 10 more tactical marines, combining their fire power with the original bulk, are going to do a better job of driving someone from an objective (usually because they’ll be dead).
Otoh the grenader launcher is not only significantly cheaper but also far more pivitol, at least once you let math be involved in the situation.
