I have a power weapon painting tutorial now here it is:

Brushes: the top brush is GW's fine detail brush, the bottom one is my finest brush for ultra detail.

The blade is base coated black

A mix of black and hawk turquoise is layered on where the lightning effect will roughly go.

More hawk turquoise is added to the mix and applied with the fine detail brush.

Pure Hawk turquoise is then carefully layered on, some ice blue can also be added to the mix.

A mix of ice blue and hawk turquoise is added with a very fine brush.

Raw ice blue is used to patchily highlight the previous shade.

A highlight of ice blue and white is added

Add very small patches of skull white.

A blue wash is applied to dull the colour.

The lightning is carefully re-highlighted with the ice blue-white mix.

The blade is finally painted with gloss varnish to bring out the contrast and protect from wear and tear.

And there you have it. How to paint power weapons

Cheers, SoO

Very Cool, i have never been able to find a good way of doing these. Do you find it works better over the base coat or have you tried it over a metal color?

Very nice painting and tutorial. For personal preference I preferred the look during the forth picture, so if/when I try this I'd stop at that point for my swords as I think it looks much better.

Again, personal preference but I think the varnish finish ruins the look a lot. Other than that its really good and will be trying this when I get to my IC 's that I have waiting to be done.

I would SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO do that if I had all the paints!!!!!!!

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building, copy and paste this into your sig if you are one of the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair & grab some popcorn and yell JUMP BITCHES!!!
92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your sig.

Looks very nice, I assume it could also be done with other blues?

I find army painting tedious, so I paint single figures for the fun of it.

I am officially a mong! I tried the technique above and screwed it up. However i stubbled across an interesting technique. Water down some ice blue 3:1 ratio and paint the bottom of the sword then mix some skull white with a tiny amount of ice blue then water it down to 3:1 and paint the opposite end of the weapon. Draw the white gently down the weapon, as you brush touches the darker blue at the bottom, the colours run past each other and form crazy patterns. Do not mix these colours, allow them to dry and they will form an interesting and quite beguiling pattern on your Power Sword its not an exact science but mine turned out well. Will post a Photo ASAP.
