I'm looking at Shadowsun right now and I can't think of any good reason not to take her for my HQ.

For 175 points you get 2 fusion guns that fire separately and can shoot at different targets, a 4+ invulnerable, 2 shield drones, a stealth field generator and the real gem a drone that provides an 18" Ld 10 bubble for Tau units!

Finally some protection from FoTD!

(edited to correct the point cost for shadowsun)

Well how about needing 1500 points in your army, the shorter range of the fusion guns, not being an independant character, oh and rather exspencive 170 points, most of my shas el's and shas o's are only 90 to 120.

Now being able to field an army with 19 stealth suits in it might be good enough though. . .

hmmm, Stealth Suits, Pathfinders, Kroot, and the obligatory fire warrior squad or 2 in a devilfish, and a skyray?

That might be pretty damn nasty. . .

her 2 fusion guns, 6 normal stealth fusion guns, 12 stealth burst cannons, 1-2 df burst cannons, 6 to 10 Seeker Missiles.

The loss of the IC is mitigated by the stealth field and shield drones and the high cost is mitigated by not needing to buy Shas'uis for FCWs.

I guess Mech or JSJ armies wouldn't benefit too much but even they're vulnerable to drop pod FoTD librarians which seem are getting more popular by the tournament.

I think she will turn out to suck the fattie except in an all Crisis with shield drones list.

Shadowsun
Shas'o with 2 x bodyguard, all with hard wired drone generators and 2 shield drones, lots of guns and multitrackers

3 x twinlinked plasma & shield drone crisis suits
3 x twinlinked plasma & shield drone crisis suits
3 x twinlinked missile pod & shield drone crisis suits

some troops of some kind (probably 1 x fcw with marker drones and 2 x small squads of kroot)

As many stabilized broadsides with shield drones as you can get. Not sure yet what the scheme here will be.

My suspicion is that those T4 with a 3+ save and 4+ invulnerable shield drones and crisis suits with a LD10 bubble will be pretty mean against drop pod armies

Looks like you could do 3 x team leaders with plasma, multitracker, 2 shield drones and stabilizers for 135ish pts each. Kinda like super obliterators. (4 2+/4+ wounds with move and shoot twinlinked plasma + twinlinked rails).

The list I quoted with Shadowsun, 12 crisis suits with all the trimmings, 3 team leader broadsides with all the goodies, a squad of 10 fire warriors with 2 marker drones and a markerlight shasui and 2 x 12 kroot would run about 1750 pts.

You can get 3 tl fusion suits for the same cost, reason enough for me to never take her.

vsurma

How many drop pod armies do you normally face because right now they're killing me, if I spread out to avoid FoTD, the marines will drop on my expensive units and wipe them out, if I castle to concentrate my firepower, the librarian drops in with fear and takes out half my army. Those 3 tl fusion suits won't do anything to help against it but the Ld 10 bubble will.

Never run into any good pod armies so different situation here. Wish I did though.

The ld is quite nice I will admit, esp if you run it with an ethereal! a true counter to the BOO!

Shadowsun makes a lot of lists possible that previously sucked bad thanks to standard crap Tau leadership. A tau list with zero vehicles for instance.

Now if you are fully mech-tau, of course she wont benefit you enough to justify the 170 pricetag.

Well to deal with the drop pods suprisingly the best I have seen to deal with it has been to leave everybody in their vehicles, and with the new Positional Relay for a crisis suit, you should be able to controll your deployment extremely well so instead of him dropping on you, you controll when a single squad comes in. . .

Basically this will let you castle if you need to but away from his librarians. . .

The problem with the positional relay is that unless you put it on a broadside, it starts off the board in escalation and it needs to be on the board at the start of the turn to have any effect.

I've tried hiding in vehicles and it doens't work to well.

A LD10 bubble for your crisis suits with a bazillion ablative wounds and 2 x distributed meltaguns is plenty good. Crisis suits are normally LD 8 and horribly subject to FOTD, and now they aren't.

Further, LD10 for shooting casualties is infinitely better than Ld8.

I'd say she makes the all-Crisis army possible by keeping your 250 pt squads from 3d6 one in 3 times they take quarter casualties (which is in this case 3 drones).
