Why are there websites that don't ship to the US or US sites that don't ship to other countries?. I assume they are based in other countries and because of distributor reasons they aren't allowed to ship to the US. At least that's what is stated, but why?

Well one easy way to check is to simply put through an order for the USA on those websites and see if it completes.

Most sites will openly say when orders cannot be shipped to the USA - such as GW products.

Plus most professional stores don't want to ship region restricted products to regions they are not allowed too because when they get caught they lose the licence for that product. Furthermore breaking contract like that might well cause them to lose other connections or see their reputation harmed. So you could not just lose one chain of products but two or three or see issues when negotiating new contracts.

Exactly that ^^^^^

Distributors pay good money for the rights to a territory and don't want to be undercut by compedators in other markets.

I imagine that GW or whatever vendor does check their site for that note and maybe even tries to put in an order to the United States.
