Out of curiosity, and intended for all RPGs, wargames etc. Do you use different colors both for particular type of dice (like d6 in different color than d20 or d10 etc.) and/or for different weapons/squads/heroes/armies etc.? Do you care if a particular roll is made with dice of different color - for example you need to roll 12 d6, and does it bother you if the pool will be made of dice of random colors? Etc. Etc. Insert any additional reason for using or not using different or the same colors of dice you can think about.

Not for superstition or OCD reasons, but it can help with fast rolling with different weapons in a unit - e.g. for a unit of Drukhari: white dice are the regular splinter rifles, red dice is the splinter cannon, green is the blasters...

Though you need to determine order you resolve in advance. And does give extra info on opponent that could help him.

Generally i go for whatever colour i have quickly at hand.

Most of my RPG dice are black with red numbers/pips. This is to help me keep track of which dice are mine on cluttered tables when other people also have dice bouncing around. Not foolproof, but helps make sure I walk away with my own, and nobody else’s. I do have a few other colors in there, mostly for percentile dice so I can roll multiple pairs of them at once.

For war games that use d6 (mostly 40k, but also AoS if I get that to a table and WHFB before that) I have a brick of purple marbled dice I like, with 3 basic white dice swapped in so I can bulk roll and include special/heavy weapons or other times I need to distinguish certain attacks.

I have dice in a load of colours, less for rolling and more for keeping track of things - e.g. red for wounds, green for "shock" in games that use it.

think the most was four colours, forget which game

having them on hand can make for faster dice rolling, but once you have explained which is which its usually faster to just roll the things

exception being stuff like "white are the unit, blue are the character" stuff which is easy

also a bit easier to have "ffs don't roll the D12, its the turn marker" or "yellow dice are score markers" etc

Each player has a color of d6s for tabletop gaming, and then we use other (larger) d6s that track wounds, turn number, and so on.

In a D&D context, I use the same clear green set I bought in 1985 or so, but only as a PC.

As a DM, I have a hodge-podge which I sort out as needed depending on who is attacking the party.

I typically have my big block of one color of dice and then a few of a couple other colors for unique weapons or attacks within the unit.

I'll roll whatever is at hand, but I do like to have matching dice when possible.

With convention games of Mech Attack I try to make sure each player has several of a couple different colors of d10. I then encourage them to roll multiple weapons systems at a time to keep things moving.

For my fantasy armies for WFB, they all have their own set of dice. I have them color coded as well. The Chessex bricks of Opaque dice are life savers. My Crimson Fists have their own set of red/blue with gold pips.

Some of it is personal preference, but some is for the fact that it is just easier to see differentiate between your dice and your opponents.

I try to use dice colours to denote things as much as possible, speeds up playing and avoids confusing this dice with that dice, whenever it counts

I like my army's "main" dice to be linked in some way to their paint scheme.

I also have a largish collection of red/white/black/blue or translucent dice in the same general colour for different weapons/sergeants, etc

I used to use the old (larger) skull dice for wounds remaining before the numbers of wounds went up. The big box for the 128 dice is a turn marker. I have a variety of D4 D8 D10 D12 D20 in different sizes for other markers.

To a very lesser extent.

There's one D&D game I'm in where we each have two active characters. So I have two different sets of dice.
When I'm the DM? I only use bright yellow dice with easy to read black #s. Because I roll in the open & want everyone at the table to be able easily to see what was rolled.

For wargames I'll sometimes roll different colored dice for different weapons/unit champions.
For ex: in my Age of sigmar Cities army I have crossbow units that can roll 20 dice (two of wich apply to the champion who hits on 1 better. So I have 18 yellow dice & 2 grey set aside in their own little cube just for my crossbow units.

I also never roll generic red dice to hit/wound/damage/etc for wargaming. Those are reserved for tracking wounds on things, & being set aside for use as CP & VP.

No. I tried for a while to color code dice, but gave up after a while. Now I just have a mish-mash of dice.

Now, when I need dice I get the generic white with black pips that you can find at any grocery store/gas station now.

worth noting, I really liked the blue translucent dice from the "Soul Wars" box, asked in GW about getting more "we don't sell them like that" (nice plain ones, no symbols, easy to read, lovely colour)

result: bag of 50 from the internet, a lost sale to a company who will sell plain dice in game boxes but not outside them

I'm a sucker for faction specific dice. In fact, last year I spent most of my hobby money on dice because GW usually puts them out in pretty limited runs.
In the game I use different colored dice for fast rolling, as others have mentioned. In my experience it works up to 3 different dice, anything more and you spent more time assigning colors (and trying to remember them afterwards!) than if you had just rolled them one by one.

Apart from different colours for each player, not really no.

Mostly just for speed rolling. with classic BattleTech you roll 2d6 for each weapon or skill check as such if i say wanted to roll 3 medium lasers i have 3 different matching sets of dice.

for 40K if i say have a squad that has 1 different weapon in it i will roll all the bolters with one color and the plasma gun will be a different color as they all have the same range/fire rate but have different strength and AP.

Also similar to Sgt. Cortez i also have many sets of dice to represent factions i play for various games.
I have sets from the old flames of war unit specific dice for WWII as well as nation dice for my victory at sea naval stuff. there are also faction specific dice for classic BattleTech, warmachine etc...

Recently i have been getting some great looking 3rd party faction dice for 40K

Yup, been doing this forever.

But I do have bulk amounts of specific colours for each faction I play.
Green/Black/Gold - Salamanders
Red/Black - Bloody Rose
Pink/Black - Emperor's Children
Admech - Metallica
Bulk white(wounds, Hull points, etc)

Most of my armies have a dice set. Some share a set. For Battletech I have small dice of different colors for movement and bigger ones of different colors for speeding up attacks. I also have a general token back with different things and dice for wounds/rounds/whatever.

I tend to use differently coloured dice for the different weapons in a squad. White for lasguns, red for lascannons, and black for plasma for instance.
