Anyway, I just LOVE this idea. The players are here. Everybody has the rules, the minis and scenery to showcase, or just the ability to play via text and as a sort of PBEM,

There are a lot of wargamers, and even 40k players who live in the Wilds of East No-Whereland. What could be done to make something like this work?

You may not love the idea, but it could just be one heckuvalotoffun.

Simple and concise? Would it be possible, or desirable to run a 1st ed 40k rpg game over Dakka? If so, how could we go about it? If not, any suggestions regarding other fora where such a thing might be welcome.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, we have a sub-forum called 'Forum Games' where you can post a thread and other people can join in to post and help make that game together.

Now obviously you're hindered by the fact that you have to post in a thread together to make things happen, and I'm not entirely sure what issues you're looking to overcome to make it happen, but clever use of things like spoiler tags to hide text, etc, should allow you to run some forms of RPGs.

As for us actually enabling new technology to the site in order for you to play a game, that isn't realistically something we can do.

I'm not a Mod, but we currently have a short Only-War RPG adventure running in the Forum-Games subforum that yakface mentioned. Works just fine using spoiler tags. I would recommend starting one off-time (here goes everything rules related) and another in-game (for the fluffy story parts) threat, that usually works best to keep the rules-chatter from interfering with the reading flow
