So I know it's a very fringe event but currently in the rules it is impossible to run a manta as an aircraft. Maximum match size of onslaught allows 750pts in strategic reserve. Obviously the mantas 2000 pts is above that limit.

Currently from a rules stand point the model is broken and cannot use half of it's rules. Any sane person would just allow it to be placed in reserve but that's a house rule.

Strategic Reserves are separate from other Reserves units (deep strike, aircraft, etc) and the limit only applies to units set up with that specific method.

The bigger problem with the Manta is that it can not arrive wholly within 6" of a table edge and therefore can not shoot on the turn it arrives. And most of the time your opponent will simply block its movement on the following turn, forcing it to fly right off the table without ever doing anything. It's a meme unit that is not meant to be played with in real games.

I see where I mixed it up aircraft say once the battle begins they are treated as strategic reserve and the points limitation is for before the battle has started.

That could actually make for some interesting aircraft lists if they don't suffer from the points limitation.

But such a list would lose every game since you'll have a hard time holding objectives with all those OC-0 models...

Never said they would all be aircraft just more than 25% of the army

More than 25% of your army not being able to score VP is rarely a good strategy and most aircraft are pretty bad. It might be a funny meme list but it isn't going to win many games.
