Many of my Demons of Nurgle have mutiple war gear options that look like you are meant to pick one or the other... but could also be read as you being able to take both.

Example:
Plague Drones
■ 1 Plague Drone that is not equipped with a daemonic icon can be equipped with 1 instrument
of Chaos.
■ 1 Plague Drone that is not equipped with an instrument of Chaos can be equipped with 1
daemonic icon.

The way I read this is you must pick one or the other for your unit. But the way my friend was reading this is a model must pick one or the other, ergo a unit can use both.

So is it "1 plague drone model" or "1 plague drone unit"? Basically, can you have a unit with both war gear options?

A unit can have both the options, but each option has to be on a separate model.

Yeah, the wording is a bit awkward but it is trying to make it clear that you can't put both upgrades on one model. The unit can have both.

Wargear options are always model options. The reason they say Plague Drone is to make it clear that the unit's Plaguebringer cannot have either option.

So my friend was correct (and I was wrong). Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah just to make sure you can't have both while at least 1 alive. And matches how they can be modelled in box
