I dont have my books here so have to do it out of my head.

It is writen as " if this character is leading a unit the weapons from this units gain the leathal hits"

the question is if his body gaurd is destroyed does the character's weapon have leathel hits.
Because its a little strang writen it does see to be that the charater has to lead a unit to get the leathel hits him self?

They forget how to do lethal hits the second their last bodyguard dies.

yes, its counter intuitive to what our understanding of what would be "real", but thats how it goes.

It is correct that Leader abilities do not function when the model is alone. GW made the conscious decision to not allow Leaders their abilities without a bodyguard, probably to avoid unintentionally allowing a Leader unit to be too powerful alone.

Remember back in 8th Edition when Smash Captains didn't care about allowing other units to re-roll hits, only caring about their personal ability to re-roll Thunderhammer attacks?
