Ollanius Pius - Savior of the Emperor

Gathering the Informations.

Hey, how is everyone? Just finished this book yesterday. Quite a good read! There was a very important couple of bits in there that I don't want to let people be able to accidentally get spoiled on, so I'm going to keep a spoiler block up here to avoid it happening!

Ready? Okay, here we go into spoiler territory! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Spoiler:

So for one thing, we have a definite Inquisitorial schism happening. Two major factions put operatives in place to grab Creed's Secret Weapon.
Creed's big "secret weapon"? The "master plan left behind for beating Chaos"?
Maps. More specifically, maps containing coordinates to inhabitable worlds that are not settled as part of the Imperium. Worlds lost to time and neglect, or just plain misplaced in the historical archives.

Worlds that the Cadians can claim for their own, to build up their populace again.

Guilliman has given his blessing for Ursula to recall most active Cadian forces to marshal for a crusade of their own...and that's where the book ends.

Apparently, he tried. He was ignored.

Remember that prior to the Battle of Tyrok Fields? He was "just" a general.

London

That is a very naff storytelling device, mostly to recover from mediocre writing earlier that doesn't set up future hooks. Incredible GW isn't telling writers to always put possible hooks in and having a list of stuff that can be referenced

As much as I'm bugged by the fact that she's his actual daughter...it's very much explained that she didn't know him either. She didn't even use his name until Guilliman basically forced her to for a propaganda piece.

The Shire(s)

It is a bit odd, but in fairness Creed snr. only reached the rank of Lord Castellan at the outset of the 13th Black Crusade following the Battle of Tyrok Fields. He was still a young man (by the standards of senior Imperial officers) and his rise through the ranks was meteoric.

It is quite possible he had only had the required security clearances to find this kind of data for a short period of time- being a career soldier and not a cartographer or something this is going to be from obscure records, not original research. The digging through records has also occurred whilst doing his day job to an exemplary degree through exceptionally challenging warzones.

So the idea was probably in its infancy, and it isn't surprising that a plan requiring secrecy (to prevent the agents of Chaos from finding out and sabotaging it) hadn't yet been disseminated to a handful of trusted associates whilst fighting the largest battle the Imperium had fought in millennia.

I think he was technically a Lord General, so above General, but not by much.

Lots of people saying "it's probably this" or "it's likely that" - that's all conjecture. All we know is what is written, and let's be honest, it's not the best storytelling when they suddenly pull something out of nowhere to possibly assist in the rejuvenation of the Cadians after blowing their planet up.

That being said, two factions in the Inquisition putting operatives into one force by no means suggests a schism. The Inquisition quite regularly operates at odds with itself; Inquisitors from Xenos, Malleus and Hereticus often cross paths (and words/weapons) in the course of their own investigations. Doesn't suggest a schism is brewing, and nothing else in the book did, as far as I read.
