When a multi-model unit with deadly demise has a model that is destroyed and you roll a 6 on the roll that models own unit takes the mortal wounds as well right?

Assuming the unit is within 6” of the model, yes.

From the way the deadly demise ability is worded, yes that seems to be the case, if it is within range.

And considering Deadly Demise covers a unit either exploding or thrashing around blindly in death throes, it makes perfect sense that it might hit friendly models close by.
