Is it 3, 4, 5 and/or 6?

I only ask because the datasheet under composition lists a sergeant and "2-5 inceptors". It doesn't say 2 OR 5.

Sorry for the dumb question

If it says 2-5 then that means a unit of Inceptors can be between 3 and 6 models, one model has to be a sergeant

If it was only 3 or 6 models per squad, the wording would be different

That makes sense to me. But the cost is listed as 3 or 6. No per model cost. Does that change your opinion?

No. It means if you take 5, you're paying the price for 6. You don't get a discount, as tenth doesn't do per model costs any more.

So, rather than reading it as written "2 - 5" we should be reading it as "2 or 5"...with no option for 3 or 4.

No because there are neich situations where you could deliberately field fewer models than you pay for e.g. ditching a model to fit a character in a drop pod or you lost a model you have the option doesn't make it a good choice

You can take any number up to the max, however if you take eg 5 you're still paying for all 6 models. You're free to have an under strength squad

MUNITORUM FIELD MANUAL VERSION 1.4 wrote:You can use this document to determine the points (pts) value of each unit in your army. Each entry lists the increments to a unit’s size that incur different points costs. This may change with the addition of each individual model (e.g. 1 model, 2
models, 3 models, etc.) or it may be presented with a lower and upper limit to a unit’s Starting Strength (e.g. one cost for 5 models, another cost for 10 models). In the latter case, your units can contain a number of models in between these limits, but you must still pay the maximum points cost for a unit that starts the game with more than its minimum number of models. You can learn more about using points to muster your army on pages 55-56 of the Core Rules.
GW has decided to remove per model and upgrade cost for units in favor of simplified cost that generally apply just a few values per unit based purely on a few set number of models. There are pros and cons to this methodology, but the rules are very clear.

Insert standard rant about GW rules.

Thanks, I assumed that something like that existed.

Your original post did not ask anything about points costs, I assumed you already knew you'd end up paying extra for taking less than the max number of models
