I had a situation last game that seemed perfectly fine during the game (ofcourse it would) , but started feeling rather sketchy after the game. Broken down to points for easier reading:
1. I have an unit of acolytes in Cult ambush and a marker on the field that is more than 9" away from an enemy unit (no enemy unit ended a move within 9" of it)
2. In my command phase I use the Nexus' ability to move the marker 6" bringing it within 9" of the enemy unit, but since the enemy unit itself hasn't ended a move it (the marker) is still left intact on the field
3. I deploy my acolytes within range of the ambush marker using the deep strike rules as directed and pop the Tunnel crawlers stratagem which lets me deploy them within 3" of the enemy unit instead of within 9" as per the deep strike rule.

Was the marker movement and the usage of the stratagem legal? The stratagem states that the unit must be using the deep strike ability in order to be an eligible target for it and the cult ambush ability specifically states that the unit arrives using the deep strike ability. What I don't like about this situation is that in the Deep strike USR it is stated that the unit in question must be in Reserves and technically units in Cult ambush are not in Reserve. Any opinions on this? Thanks!

Specific trumps general.
If they're stated as using Deep Strike, they're using Deep Strike.

You deploy from Cult Ambush at the end of your opponent’s Movement Phase. Why didn’t he just move a unit, or even Remain Stationary (a type of move), into range of the marker to force you to remove the marker before you could deploy ‘danger close’?

Also where are you seeing Cult Ambush = Deep Strike? I’m not seeing that. I think your combo falls foul of applying things in the wrong turn.

The Important thing is that the words Deep Strike appear nowhere in the rules for Cult Ambush. Your dodgy action was simply illegal.

Here is where it appears (quoting directly from the index):
"...select one unit from your army that is in Cult Ambush and set that destroyed unit back up on the battlefield using the Deep Strike ability...". Since the stratagem requires the unit to be set using the deep strike ability and the cult ambush rule specifically states that the unit is using the deep strike ability I figured out that it was legal.

Check you’re using the latest Index version, too. The one I grabbed last night doesn’t have the wording you posted.

Indeed, it is missing in the new index .

Likely to patch unintended loopholes or confusion that would otherwise arise!

Most definitely a change as noted in the Index Card Errata.
