It's been mentioned a few times on the internet that forgeworld is not long for this world. With a shrinking product line and the loss of it's own website, there seems to be a pattern of downsizing. Maybe it's true or maybe it will stay where it is. Either way, some pretty cool models have come out of FW over the years. So cool that GW has occasionally decide to bring them over as plastic kits. The baneblade and trygon come to mind. So my question is: if GW were to to make a FW model in plastic, what model would you pick?

I have a few I would pick.

The Brass Scorpion

I've been in this hobby for nearly two decades now and this model seems to keep popping up. Artbooks, conversions various rules in various game types. It must be popular to have stuck around this long. When I think of demon engines this was the image that came to mind for many years. The thorny frame work and absurd design meshes with the overall aesthetic of chaos space marines quite nicely and represents the transitional point between the old defiler kit and newer demon engine kits. It would make for a great alternative to a Lord of Skulls or Chaos Knight if someone was looking for a big centerpiece to their army. It's just peak chaos for me.

Chaplain Dreadnought

The two coolest things to come out of the SM army for me was the chaplain and the old dreadnought. And FW combined into one of coolest dreadnoughts I've ever seen. And it was pretty interesting in terms of rules as well. A dreadnought that provides buffs seems like a cool idea. Maybe it's too little too late, but if the Blood Angels can have a psycher dreadnought then the likes of the Black Templar could have a chaplain dreadnought.

Grot Tanks

These guys have so much character. Genuinely one of the most interesting things to come out of the ork line at FW. They feel totally different than anything else in the main ork codex. The sculpts are great, but also one of the easiest things to convert and kitbash to make your own unique, little tankette. Also a must-have for anyone wishing to start their own little grot revolution.

So I'm curious if anyone here has a Forge World model that they feel is just too good for Games Workshop to pass up.

Hmm. Good question.

Two things come to mind. One is the Thunderhawk. I’d never get it to the table, it’s huge and would take up space on the shelf, and even in plastic it would be prohibitively expensive. But it’s just so iconic. I covet it, and would probably end up getting one with a windfall of cash (like a tax return) that probably should have been spent on something more practical.

Eldar super heavy grav tanks. The Falcon is what got me to start collecting Eldar. The big tanks are like that, but just more. But besides the expense, dealing with spindly graceful elf designs in bendy resin is not my idea of fun. The whole theme of my Eldar force is “Getting mud on your boots is for lesser races” so getting a giant grav tank would be a much better centerpiece then a WK, Avatar, or the like.

Interesting! I have the smaller Squiggoth from Forgeworld, and despite having a long time to get one I still don't have the Gargantuan Squiggoth...

I'd say the things I would keep are already gone for the most part, like the old Renegades and Heretics miniatures or some of the stuff made for Warhammer Fantasy.

Chaplain Dreadnought for me. I only say that though as I have one and it looks amazing

I don't think FW is going anywhere, it'll just be in the form of "Expert Kit" from now on.

What would I like in plastic though? Dreadclaws and the GOAT known as Kharydis Assault Claw. They represent a side of Space Marines that is being kept from the spotlight by existing only as resin kits

These are both long gone, but I'd love it if they'd moved the Tauros/Venator to plastic (both could probably be done in one kit) and resurrected the Salamander Scout/Command as an upgrade sprue or something.

The Venator is coming out in plastic, for Necromunda Enforcers

Well, I'll be damned. Looks like it's even going to be relatively easy to convert to the old weapons loadouts. Guess that explains why they got name-dropped in that Gaunt prequel.

They already tore out a lot of the awesome fantasy dragons and the slaanesh keeper :(

Heck its half destroyed my desire to build an Eldar army as lynx, cobra, hornet and a few more are just awesome models in their line and whilst GW central "might" make them in plastic, that might could be a decade after the FW model is pulled from sale.

Heck just this last few months they tore out the Malanthrope for Tyranids - I count myself lucky I managed to basically haunt the FW site for a few weeks after and snagged the last one that appeared for a brief moment (I now have a pretty pair but a shame I will now never have a trio).

In the end its hard to say which "one" I'd like protected. Eg I'd be tempted to protect one of the Eldar, but its kind of a package deal - a lynx on its own is very neat, but as part of a hornet, cobra etc.... block it forms an awesome set.

So that would make me just lean into something like one of the Heirodules from Tyranids because I've got a Scythed and I won't be dropping my Tyranids so having a Barbed is a target at some point. So I'd protect that one

I want the Kharon Pattern Acquisitor to get a plastic kit and 40k rules, even if they're only a Legends unit.

Provided it can carry the new plastic Venator, they've gotta keep the sky talon. There are some pretty heavy Krieg 40k rumours.

The current Archon + Court + 10 Kabalytes feels almost designed specifically for the Tantalus.

I genuinely believe there's a for a Retributor reboot- the Sisters/ Arbites dual build. No that firing decks are common, the Repressor wouldn't be an oddity

Bring back Noise Marine Dreadnaughts for the EC Release.

And Kroot- I'm talking Greater Knarlocs, Knarloc Riders

Also the necron turrets, but i think TTC sold some MDF ones for dirt cheap.

I've got a 2012 FW catalogue, truly one of my relics, it was gifted to me by an adult when I was a teen and had just started. Love to have a read of it and feel amazed.

GW removed the few GK specific FW models they made from the rules, so I don't really have a bone in the "what to save". I do like how most of the Horus Heresy stuff looks like. The characters, the legion specific special units and upgrade packs. I think those should stay as long as possible.

The entire eldar range. They managed to make the eldar look even cooler than they already were.

Vampires, nightwings (only transformable wing design in 40k and in resin...), scorpion/cobra mk2 (mk1 looked pregnant), titans.

As little as the eldar got from FW, they were top of the shelf best designs across all their ranges.

It will be sad to see them go, but those recasters are going to have a field day...

I've always thought they'd be relatively easy to make in plastic as despite their footprint, they wouldn't use anywhere near as much plastic sprue as imperial equivalents.

The thundehawk is a great choice. We have seen it and read about it in many other different medias that it's a shame not to see it on the board. And if SM were to get a lord of war type of unit, the thunderhawk would fit the mobility of the SM. Much more than that giant antio grav tank that came out of FW.

And I would agree with the Eldar comments. It's a shame we haven't seen GW put out more eldar vehicles with their smooth lines and bladed edges.

Eldar Scorpion Heavy Grav Tank. It's one of my fav models of all time.

But yeah, Brass Scorpion, also the Plague Hulk, the Wraithseer, and the Thunderhawk.

I've said this before: Put the Thunderhawk out in plastic and I will buy one, build it, and then break it by tossing it out a 3-story window and turning that into terrain.

Or they could sell double by selling a plastic Thunderhawk and then Kill Zone-Wrecked ThunderHawk.

You could probably share a lot of sprues between full/wrecked.

Instead of midsection parts 1,2,3,4, use 1a/b 2a/b etc. and now you have an model torn in half.

Same with wings. Build as normal, but cap with the “ripped from hull” part instead of the normal attachment.

With CAD, getting everything to line up would be trivial.

I would save the model of allowing a small secondary studio to develop the models and campaign books they want to do within the 40k or WHFB settings, using a suitable model for small-run miniature production.

I'd potentially look at having the main studio be involved with rules development, however, and certainly look to get rid of the petty middle-managers who seem to think that such an endeavour is a threat to their fiefdom...
