Prototype FoW 'dug in' markers are done. Gave the Sotar a long overdue strip, deep clean, and lube last night. Need to do that more often - running so much more smoothly, now.

Need to add snow to my prototype forest base to finish it off, which shouldn't take too long, so that's my first and main goal for the day.

After that, it's a toss-up between continuing to mess with terrain (either more forest bases, prototype rocky hills/cliffs, or trying my hand at 15mm walls and/or houses) or resuming the clearing out of existing projects on the table (cleaning Forge Fathers or painting Wraiths and an Undead standard bearer).

Pretty much finished up my fourth and final competition-entry Orc model today, and also went back to my larger-scale Star Wars stuff, doing a few pose conversions and painting up Chewbacca.

Still sculpting Goblins/Orcs (finished the base-mesh for the lamellar armor for Goblin-3.1, now to get it into Mudbox to put details in it).

And painted 4 Thunderbolt Mountain Orcs/Heavy Goblins.

Learned that I am trying to paint too quickly.

Finally got some primer, so I can crack on with the various projects I've been saving up over the last couple of weeks.

The Plan:
Blast through some LotR, to make up lost ground on my February army painting challenge

Get some more Star Wars characters painted up. Han is next, then Vader and Luke.

Maybe fiddle around with some 40k.

Rather annoyingly, I did find out when buying the paint that the local stockist is dropping their GW stuff. I never bought the minis there at full RRP, but it was always handy to be able to grab paints and WD just down the road. They did have a 25% clearance sale, but nothing I desperately have a need of.

Just noticed that the 2 minis I finished up yesterday take me to 150! Just about half of what I did last year in total, so I'm pretty pleased with that.

Supposedly Bones2 is coming today. I'll spend most of the day wasting time waiting for it to come in, it'll probably come late because irony exists. Then I'll see about swimming around in the white plastic crack. Maybe some unboxing photos. Would be nice to sort and store it but there's gonna be a lot...

Well, now that I've seen what's coming out this Friday, I will probably hold off on putting some orders in today. My fiance is currently totally focused on building his AM, but I'm trying to find out if he ever wants to run harlequins with his DE or not... And I've see leaks for End Times IV..which really makes me want to sit on my funds. Supposedly, End Times IV won't drop until March 6th, but I'm skeptical....

Paid for some more bits today, but I'm still trying to convince Nurgle I don't need to be one of his chosen..so I don't think I'll be heading up to the shop today.

Woohoo, progress at last. The score so far today is:

5 Morannon Orc Swordsmen
Han Solo
TIE Advanced

Vader and RotJ Luke primed, and I might knock out some more LotR after dinner.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Vader's done. 2 more minis puts me on 10 for the day, I think that's doable.

The only stuff I don't dip is stuff that's black (where the dip won't show up. Fair enough though.

I'm currently drowning in bones, and most of the stuff is still in bags =/

Decided to pick up a box of Mantic's Corporation Veterans. I like them quite a bit. I'm very much at the point now where I don't need 1000 different little details on a model to think it's good, and non multi-part models are almost as easy for me to convert now compared to multi-part.

I liked the one cities of death buliding I built. I as gonna get one each of all of the kits and then the big combo-kit... then they jacked prices by 33% or better right before I put in the order... no thanks =/ Still neat stuff though. Part of the reason I stockpiled battlezones when Deadzone came out, I figured it was similar/possibly better.

I really like the corporation marines/vets/rangers. I like the armor and pouches. The guns are still a bit big for full-out true scale.. but close enough. And I really like the ranger helmets and jet packs.

Still swimming through bones2... Khanjira is at least as big as expected, it's great.

Aye, the Corp Marines are nice minis. Until you get used to the arms they can be a bit of a pain in the backside to assemble, but they do lend themselves to fast, effective paintschemes if you're a fan of washes. The armour plates and straps/pouches look very decent when just based and washed, thanks to the sharp lines.

Any tips from anyone before I start assembling these Corporation Veterans? I feel like slapping them on the base first might be the best way to go, but I'm curious what other things people have learned.

I sawed off the little integrated bases and put them on scenic then clear acrylics myself but... that may be the way to go too.

Unboxing and assembling/painting corporation marines/rangers was the very first thing I did in my P&M blog.

Scroll past all of the stuff about the painting challenge. Then there are several spoilers from where I unbox the stuff.. then past that you'll see my thoughts and efforts with the material, arm combinations and what not. Think I may convert a few rifles to the specialized guns included in the kits as well.

If you're new to restic read about it a little, you have to clean it a bit differently from hard plastic, and you want a really really brand new sharp hobby knife for working with it.

Slight cock-up on the forest base means a bit of reworking and delayed progress. :( Will be lucky to sort it out before I'm off to work.

Mixed up my own ink wash for the ground, heavy on the PFC (Pledge FloorCare, i.e. Future/Klear). Gave it a dusting of matte varnish. Started applying snow (baking soda, with a bit of lightweight spackle underneath for body, where I wanted larger drifts) and, like an idiot, I used PFC to secure it, not PVA (normally not an issue, but read on). With only a light dusting of varnish forming an insufficient barrier, the fresh layer reactivated the wash. Cue capillary action and now my fresh, white snow has ugly (and, more importantly, inexplicable) red-brown stains.

Not a terribly difficult fix - a little white paint to mask the stain, then a fresh layer of snow to restore the look - but it's time wasted and means this base will be much snowier than I had originally intended. Live and learn... and throw around a bit of profanity while doing so.

[edit:] Daaaaaamn, Desubot! That yellow is gorgeous.

Got 5 Corsairs of Umbar painted up, but not based as I'm out of sand. May resort to using flock and very thorougly painting it grey, we shall see.

Also fixed up and inventoried my Haradrim, I have enough to add a neat contingent to my other Evil armies, 5 Raider Horsemen and 12 spear/bow troops. Add in an Assassain and Chieftain, and that should plug-in nicely to my Mordor stuff, and represent them well in my Evil Men army (alongside Umbar, Khand and Rhun).
