The only ships in X-Wing that are out of scale are the Rebel Transport and the CR-90 Corellian Corvette (and presumably the forthcoming Imperial Raider) - They're collectively known as Huge Ships. Everything else is completely in scale, the Millennium Falcon, Slave 1, Decimator, IG-2000 and Outrider are 'Large Ships' and in scale with the small ships. - If you remember back to Empire Strikes Back, the Slave One is a pretty large ship, with a cargo area large enough to hold a frozen Han Solo.

Yeah, if there's any dubiety about scale, it's the HWK. But to be fair, there are wildly differing sources, so it ended up not much bigger than the single seater starfighters.

I think the bases are a pretty elegant way of having the required info at everyone's fingertips.

Different strokes for different folks.

The bases are pretty important for measuring and ranges/firing arcs, they do a *lot* by being what they are and they're kind of necessary by default just to hold the ships up.

I think the problem with the slave one is the Ginormous 'glass' 'cockpit' on the 'front'. I'm assuming it's a not/glass wall covering the entire 'bridge' as opposed to a single seater cockpit, but it does make the Slave1 look kind of horrendously out of scale with the others, like it should be smaller than an X-wing just on the cockpit/glass/thing alone.

So I think what I read of what Compel posted is "just right" as far as cross faction ships. You can use the model and dials you already have, but you have to have the card ship token (that goes on top of the clear plastic base) and the pilot card appropriate for the faction. If I said that right, then it's exactly as it should be. This allows you to freely use your ships cross faction as long as you've bought a bit of the right stuff.

What the wording is in place to prevent is using ship cards from the wrong faction -- Boba Fett can fly for Scum or the Empire, but his stats are different depending on which-- and ensures that you use the right ship tokens which probably has less hiccups than ship cards, but could still introduce tokens describing an inaccurate set of abilities, stats, or what have you.

The only financial trap is that if you already have a half-dozen z95's you may want to not buy any more for the scum faction... but you won't have *any* appropriate ship card/tokens to use with them, same with the slave 1 and HWK. Given that you can get cards for all of the crossover models with one $40 set (thats $27 on miniature market), it's not too steep of a buy-in, and it's not like you aren't getting an equal value of new ships, the extra cards are practically gratis.

I don't love the idea of needing to buy certain expansions to get certain cards to make certain builds... but Scum and Villainy has introduced the crossover concept with a minimum of pain or gouging, so Kudos for FFG on that point.

Still assembling PanO, getting there. Leaving the chests open (generally meaning one arm + gun is left off), I'll have to find a good way to mount the right arms for separate painting. Gonna try to class these up a bit though and a lot of good painters seem to leave troublesome parts like that separate.

you sure about that?? The standard TIE fighter seems a bit... large compared to an X-Wing. In all the movies TIEs are ridiculously small, while the X-Wings had enough room for the astromech, pilot, life support, apparently a hyperdrive, AND storage lockers. And in most movie scenes the panels on the sides of the TIE were only seemingly about as big as a single wing/ S-foil of an X-Wing. The game pieces

I mean, Im not disagreeing that things like the TIE and X-Wing aren't appropriately scaled for the game and the game's bases/systems... just that compared to each other, I think the proprotions are a bit off.

I'm as sure as I can be without calling the game designers liars, anyhow. :p

The last 2 pages of the rulebook specifically talk about the scale, actually, including addressing this exactly.

Fantasy Flight Games wrote:Nowhere is our devotion to scale more evident than in our TIE Fighter. Through intensive research and close correspondence with Lucasfilm Ltd, we confirmed with no degree of uncertainty the true scales of this iconic Imperial Fighter as it appears in the films, even going so far as to study the proportions of the original film models.

Actually, you can read FFG's thoughts on scales yourself. The rulebook is free to download from their site.

The Wolf Lord is provisionally done, the base is done, but I'm still not sure if he needs a banner. I guess I'll paint one up anyway, and when I can take some pics put the question to the good folk of Dakka.

Today I'm going to try and knock out some more LotR, and possibly have a little experiment using them with the KoW rules.

Got nothing painted, but played test game of KoW-LotR (Rings of War? Lord of the Kings? ), and can now say that I believe 100% of the hype about that ruleset. It needs a few tweaks to be Middle-Earth friendly (mostly to unit profiles), but the gameplay itself was simple but deep, fast but epic, and it seems to be a generally all-round awesome game! I'll need a couple more goes to get the rules down, but that hardly seems a burden!

KoW is supposed to be really good. - The downfalls of the ruleset right now I've read are it was a little bit too light on the army build requirements. - Recent tournaments have been dominated by all cavalry lists. But as long as you focus on building 'sensible' armies, the game works really well.

Of course, there's the new rulebook coming out soon that should cheer everyone up.

I was wanting to spray Imperial Assault today but it was too windy. Then it rained. Then rained some more. So, instead I took out my greenstuff and started gapfilling them. I very rarely use greenstuff, so I've probably made a huge mess of the models and obliterated a bunch of detail. But it can't be that much worse than a 2 millimetre gap in a wookiees arm... Can it?

I've also been messing about with 'Scum and Villainy' squadrons for X-Wing that I might be fielding tomorrow night. 4 bombs in a squadron. - BOOM!

Emon Azzameen Seismic Charges, Proton Bombs, Andraste, Intelligence Agent, Engine Upgrade

Hired Gun, Genius, Bomb Loadout, Proton Bombs, Engine Upgrade

Hired Gun, Bomb Loadout, Seismic Charges, Unhinged Astromech (Or I could give something a Prox Mine instead of Seismic charges?)

It's getting late, but I'm still half contemplating trying to setup an Imperial Assault skirmish to have a runthrough before I have a game on Tuesday night.

I've been waiting for Scum and Villainy. My brother and a friend both play, and one plays Rebels and one plays Imperial. I don't like doubling up factions, so I'll make the leap with Scum and Villainy. Bonus points for having my favorite ship ever, the Firespray.

Got my first couple of games in with scum and villany. Very impressed. They've managed to give the ships a unique flavour. Won the first with 4 scyks, all with hlc against fat dash, wedge and a bandit.. Lost the second with 4 naked starvipers, against kath firespray and ig88-c aggressor.

Both were really tight games. The best kind.

I hope to finish the dreadnought's base today. The CSM was based, shaded and glazed (I was so tired I mistook the blue glaze for the blue shade ... the fun thing was how I thought more than once "Uh, today the shade doesn't seem to work so well) so all it's missing are the highlights. Besides that, the base still needs a lot of details.

In-laws have come and gone, gift went over well. Now, I'm back to my own projects!

Snuck in a couple of minutes with the files, hot glue gun, and spackle last night, managing to prep another two forest bases. After work, I hope to lay down the basing grit, in preparation for painting and snow application (over the next few days, most likely). Capping this round of terrain at 3 pieces will let them all fit on the bottom shelf of my display cabinet - a nice, practical ceiling, which will hopefully convince me to stop starting new projects for a while and get back to my horribly neglected WIP models.

Didn't want to say something and Jinx myself, but I've done a bit of work cleaning up my hobby desk. I've still got to handle the trickier upper portion/hutch/whatever-you-call-it, but the actual work area is totally clear.

Once I get the top sorted (will take awhile) I can focus on the two ancillary structures flanking the desk. The left-hand i-swear-it-isn't-a-fish-tank-cabinet/table/thing will be easy as I just need to tidy up my paint and sort them by color (maybe I'll use labels on the sorter this time!). The other side is a bookshelf which is mostly sorted, but has a bunch of boxes that will need dumped and re-sorted.

Once I know what I'm dealing with, I'll restructure the primary storage shelves and all will be well in the office... then I just have to work on the garages... but aside from finding a place to stash my models, that'll be leaving the realm of hobby and rejoining the mundane.

Oadie seems to have been pulled back down into the muck so I shall do my best to get finished so at least one of us has a clean hobby space!
