How come the previous [Marine] servitors weren't/aren't freakish giants too then..?

Possibly because GW's style is super buff dudes. Or because every Servitor is a failed Marine aspirant or a vat-grown creature suspiciously shaped like one.

In a more general sense, it might be because it's convention no one in the design study questions because sculpting entails a degree of standardization, even if the range of Servitors in the background is pretty extensive.

Also when they are sorting the raw materials and deciding what fills what roles, the big beefy bodies are more suited for gun servitors, while the little scrawny ones are more likely to be wired up as scribes

I will say that's a little too sensible for 40k in my opinion. I prefer the idea of having a scrawny dude who has a sturdy frame capable of carrying the heavy weapon built around him because when it comes down to it, the dude is little more than the CPU running the machine. GW's models aren't Blanchian enough for my taste, if you will. Not mismatched enough, too organic, too overtly fitting for the purpose.

IIrc both redone Starters use old models. For Warcry it's spelled out in the Roadmap, for Underworlds they said so in the stream.

Because they were based on misshapen midget Marines who weren't taller than a Cadian either?

Plus, you're free to throw in any amount of incompetence on part of the sculptors. Size and scale, and especially consistency, aren't their forte.

It looks like they just used a CAD asset for one of the Kataphron torsos and sculpted the rest around that.

Edit: not a Kataphron, but the dude from Combat Arena:

The torso layout is identical, the groin area and the head are different.

Maybe they feel uncomfortable with Servitors larger than themselves...? Or they just use their failed Neophytes, not vat-grown 'designs'.

To be fair, the old Servitors from 1st edition from Bob Olley and Jes Goodwin were larger than normal marines back then.

Biggest surprise to me is that they remembered that Gland warriors existed.

I really like this crew, my only worry is that they'll gut the Inquisitions customization on the rules side for locking you to these guys.|

EDIT: As long as they don't restrict Inquisitors to literally just an Autopistol, i'll be alright.

The q&a strongly hinted at FeC apparently.

It could also mean the new edition, we're awaiting that for Spring 2024, right?

Hopefully the inclusion of the powerfist/plasma pistol captain in the blind box will keep him out of legends and in the 10th rules. The only way to get him before was the lt. edition anniversary one from a few years back. Or kitbash.

Mysterious... i guess it could always turn out to be some sort of random campaign book or whatever, i'll guess we have to wait and see. If they do their usual end-of-edition thing it could be some sort of narrative/campaign thing about alternative play modes, like Boarding Patrols or Cityfight etc.

Actually only the breast plate is similar (though not identical), all of the rest beside the pose not.

Sure, maybe they used some files, but that's how they make Space Marines. And the they did that with traditional sulpting too - the three DH and WH Inquisitors were based on the same pre-model.

Overall, I think this was one of the best GW previews in a long time:

* They actually showed off the future of plastic Heresy, not just a vague roadmap. Updated MK3 marines and plastic assualt squads (with plastic melee weapons further down the road)
* The 40k Leviathin Starter Set is incredible
* The AOS reveals, although not very indepth for Cities, had some great looking characters
* Sad confirmation that TOW will include a lot of resin models, though also some plastic kits. More importantly, the return of OOP kits like the Necrosphinx
* Some cool retinue models for kill team

I must admit enjoying the WHF presentations this year. Most of the redundant fat was simply lopped off, they showed the new stuff in a timely and appropriately neutral fashion (without gushing every two seconds, bravo!).

Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff shown will result in my grey plie growing quite significantly this year.. but I digress

THAT'S what was different, I couldn't put my finger on it but that's exactly it, it's not necessarily that they were showing off less, it's that they didn't spend ten minutes waffling about every new thing they revealed.

There’s not an Inquisitor in the box, the leader is an Interrogator.

I've not even bothered adding it all up, but that honestly seems like a good chunk of loot for the ticket price. Somewhat random in content, but at the same time honestly if you didn't like some of the stuff you could just sell it on quite easily; and the £250 voucher is a smart move toward letting people have something for the day to spend on and get some specific choices.

Big ticket price and clearly targeting a very affluent and dedicated Warhammer fan (esp with a big 40K lean as there's way more in there than AoS or any other brand stuff); but honestly if you're that big a fan it looks like you're getting decent value when looking at RRP on all that stuff from GW direct.

The free codexes alone have a sticker price of several hundred pounds easily (nevermind how many of them you would have actually bought) and the 250 pound voucher is 16% of your spending back right away (if you have a wishlist that is more equally or more expensive, but let's face it, we do), and probably more if you just buy event exclusives and flip them on ebay or whatever. The one that stumps me is the limited edition books: these usually sell out fast, so i can only imagine that they use these boxes to get rid of returned merchandise, remaindered stock or stuff that could not be delivered, was not paid or otherwise unsold after the fact.

All in all, the value seems to be quite high, especially considering that the event access itself is already relatively expensive.

It's not a bad corporate move; basically it's a 'pay more than is reasonable' option for 'whales' and superfans - easy to make these people feel like it was worth it with boxes full of random and/or OOP stuff, while still earning a pretty penny on your insane margins and getting free publicity in the bargain. As long as it does not contain stuff that is completely inaccessible to normal people i have no problem with this at all.

Yeah I think that's the nice touch - its not stuff that you could only get with that huge sticker; its some rare stuff in there, but everything that's at some point been on retail and the majority of it is just regular retail stuff.

So yep a person with more disposable income/justification can get the box and have a great day; whilst regular fans are not left out.

WAY better than, say, the £1K for a few packs of exclusive magic cards
