I had a friend in high school (this is 20 years ago) and told my mother that he had like 80 CD's (which at the time, was a very impressive collection). She was amazed until I explained that they were Compact Discs not Certificates of Deposit.

Mention IRA in the wrong country and you're in deep trouble.

It seems to be one of these rather sad cases where someone got in a hole and dug deeper and deeper trying to get out of it.

There's no suggestion yet that he just nicked the money.

Mind you, the UK government has supported Northern Rock Bank to the tune of about £56 billion which equals about $110 billion. It makes the French case look like small change. However there is a chance we will get it back. Which I welcome having contributed on behalf of myself and my non-tax paying wife and daughter.

The interesting thing about all these financial scandals is the way the media and govt talk about the money being "lost." The money hasn't been lost in the sense that a cow is lost to a farmer if it gets foot and mouth and dies. It has all gone into someone's pockets.

Talking seriously for a mo. I wonder what the bank would have paid for a copy of Rouge Trader?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

- I know someone who knew Nick Leeson and family.

- Northern Rock is bailed with blank cheques in order to make Gordon Brown look good. Now more blank cheques must follow no amount of money is too much to squander to maintain New Labour's image.

- Shouldnt this be in Off Topic?

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Dear bank:

You got off lightly, at least he didn't lose half a fleet and end up demolishing the planet with comets to satisfy his own hubris.

Or was that Macharius?
