I've been working on scanning in my crate of old photos (covering college through about 2003 when I went digital) on the grounds that:

1 - In the 10+ years I've been hauling this around I never once looked at them
2 - I move every 2-3 years and they're heavy
3 - It's a good trip down memory lane.

But once the photos are scanned what should I do with the physical objects?

Throw them out?
Shred them?
Keep them?

What are others doing?

And for that matter what about my physical CDs which I ripped 2 years ago?

Do you have living parental units? They are always an excellent repository for such things.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

agreed. I organize my stuff into four groups. Good stuff, keep this stuff, keep this stuff around, keep this stuff in mom and dad's basement.

And I would either chuck it or maybe make some kind of scrapbook out of the good ones. I wouldn't actually call it a scrapbook, mind you.

As for CDs I keep my stuff in cloth folders. Cases are too heavy.

Thats always an important factor. The other factor of course is it your stash of incriminating photos of famous politicians. Keep those in a safe deposit box.

Heck I can carry them around myself, my real question is why?
I'm pretty good at backing up hard drives so is there a value to keeping the originals?

Drives fail.
Things disappear. Hence the option of parental storage.

An occasional hidden surprise. When we ran for the hills from Rita I grabbed all my old pics and precious items in one box and headed to Austin. She Who Must Be Obeyed, Genghis Connie and THIRTEEN! spent over an hour of fun going through them. Whats this? Whats this? Look this is when you had hair... That has to be fake you couldn't really do a jumping side kick when you were younger...who's the naked baby on a racing bike?
