I've been looking at making a T.Son/ Tzeentch themed list and I came across the idea of using Gift of Chaos multiple times with Warp Focus for some extra distance.  Gift of Chaos should give you spot removal for problem models in close combat as well as slowly giving you extra combatants.

While I"m not sure that such a thing would work too well in a T. Son force, it may work well in a Lost and the Dammed force.  Depending upon if you can assign multiple aspiring champs to a unit, you could have a pretty good meat shield and the ability to spawn extra guys to bump up your numbers.  While you wouldn't auto pass the psychic test, with LD 10 and a warp talisman you should be ok.

This is complete theory and there may be a big flaw in my thinking but this sounds like an interesting idea.

Gift of Chaos is always great. Assault in 40K isn't terribly more complex than counting up who has more powerfists, powerweapons, etc. and the ability to pick out a powerfist, kill him, AND add several wounds to your side of the combat is nothing short of fantastic.

In the last edition my sons army had 4 models with gift/focus and 4 thralls each. No one wants to get into hth with you when you throw 8 gifts a turn. Go for it.

I was thinking about taking 6 aspiring champs and making them all sorcerers. Then I'd attach 2-3 of them to a unit of mutants and use Gift of Chaos in combat as spot removal for troublesome models. Plus, you'd have the chance of gaining extra combatants each round.

With a little more tooling you could add in thralls to double spam the Gift of Chaos. Or, you could use warp focus to increase range. You could take one of the five point talismans that let you re-roll a failed psych test.

Additionally, if you wanted speed you could give the mutants the tzeentchy aspect that lets them move as cav and give the aspiring champs demonic speed to keep up.

With the number of hidden powerfists and spot removal that you have with the gift of chaos, not to mention the added spawns you'll make, that should be a really tough unit for people to beat.

Hmm I really like the idea of having the units of mutants with the champs. That is a scary unit that will have many units running for the hills. The only thing that sucks about doing this is that you will not be able to have any "thousand sons" units as your only elite choice will be used to get the chosen. That is the only thing holding me back from doing this, but I do believe that this could be a very valid tactic to help make a 1k sons list competative. I mean who would want to get close to 17 wounds worth of space marines that can spot kill from your unit?

Sergentzimm: Not true. You can get a unit of 1-3 Aspiring Champs as a single HQ choice. If by giving them the Tzeentch upgrade they became an elite chocie then you could have even more champs! So, unless I"m really missing something you should still have room to grab that unit of T.Son Terminators.

this one time I thought it would be a nice option to try out in my Death Guard Army.
well, I lost the game but my opponent lost his 200 points Archon, and since then, I ALWAYS take it. there's just nothing what can compete with the face of your opponent when you transform his evil overlord of doom into a big pile of snot

at least that's what my Chaos Spawn looks like
