The new markerlight is a great weapon, but me and my friends were discussing how backwards the way it works is. A normal markerlight cannot be used to benefit your own squad, a NETWORKED markerlight can...take this scenario for example:

Squad 1 Firewarrior squad leader
"Alright men, I'm going to shine a gigantic flashlight over there on the enemy. Unfortunatly, my flashlight is not hooked up to the interweb, so don't you dare take a benefit from it"

Squad 2 Sniper team controller:
"Alright I'm going to shine my flashlight over there on the enemy. This flashlight is hooked up to the internet now that everyone knows where I'm shining it. I'm going to use it on myself though just to spite everyone else..."

I mean, when I hear "networked" I would think that would allow people outside of their own group from benefitting, just seems to make more sense. Someone in china doesn't know what I'm doing unless I'm networked to the internet, and tell them what I'm doing.

does anyone else see the problem here?

It's because everyone fires at once.

Seeing as how the marker is fired at the exact same time as the rest of the weapons, the rest of the squad would not be able to lock onto the mark as it does not exist before they pull the trigger.

Networked, as I understand it, is more like a slaved system. The markerlight guy slaves the rest of the guns in the squad to "shoot where I shoot" and takes the need to aim away from the rest of the squad.

It is by the seed of Arabica that thoughts acquire speed, the teeth acquire stains, the stains become a warning.

Indeed. A better way to think about it is a slave system rather than a network. However, I guess GW would feel bad about calling something a "slave markerlight" and I guess it doesn't sound as cool to most. I think it sounds cool but that's because I'm a SW fan and both Fett and Lando had slaved ships, which fire lasers and can move without a pilot inside!

Also, INTARWEBZ! I love Internets jokes.

The way I saw it was that one markerlight alerted people where the unit was, two pointed out weaknesses, 3 showed priority targets etc....

The network markerlights do all this without the needed for lotsa flashlights
