So my neighbor gave me an old Cub Cadet yard tractor when he moved, for 200$. I know I need to change the oil and how to do it, but it's such an old model I can't figure out how to find the correct filter for it. I have the model number from the documentation, but Cub Cadet is a bad company when it comes to making model names, because I have what the manual says is a 1040x. That model, according to the website, is the same model that was released in 2021. This tractor is about 10-15 years old if I know my research.

So I tried calling Cub Cadet, and they want to sell me the specific part for 50$. My new neighbor said most yard tractor models just use the same generic filter, no need to buy a authorized part. Well, it's well out of warranty, so I guess I'm just looking for advice from those who might know.

The exact model# on the tag is 13RX90AR056. Any help is greatly appreciated. I suppose I could just yank the one that's on there but it's so badly scuffed as to be illegible.

The difference between the Walmart filter and the Cub Cadet special filter is about 30 bucks, so it's not major, but I shouldn't have to over pay for a 20 year old yard tractor. Thanks!
