Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I am about to drop on Skyrim special edition on GOG.

It has been a while since I played Skyrim and that was on steam. The steam BS was so bad on my old rig, with steam required running in the background. It got so bad I downloaded the pirate even though i owned the game.

long time later and now Skrim is on GOG, so that solves one issue and my current rig is much more powerful so I don't need to worrit over securing more memory for the game.

Some questions though.

1. What DLC does Skyrim Special Edition come with? The Gog page is very unclear. It tells me I don't get Anniversary Edition DLC, but doesnt tell me if I get the original DLC from release, like Hearthfire etc

2. Will GOG likely be a problem with mods? Some mods require a Steam connect, Enderal does for one, as does Ultimate Skyrim and I want to use both.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I assume it's the same as the Special Edition that is on Xbox Game Pass at the moment - that does include Heathfire, Dawnguard and Dragonborn.

No idea on the mods I'm afraid.

Thank you. I got the answer I needed. I expect I will need particular familiarity to get an answer to the second question.

Going back to GOG now, its -75% on sale, and thanks again.

Nexus has a LOT of mods that should run perfectly fine on gog skyrim.

The one bonus of steam is that you've got the steam workshop interface with its motherload of mods that can be updated automatically through steam workshop updates.

I could be wrong but unless GOG altered the file structure (would be weird) then mods for Skyrim are inserted directly into the game's directory. All you'd need to do is use <filepath to game>\skyrim\data and insert the mod files there.

Tools like Nexus' mod manager will do this for you if you just locate Skyrim's location.

I did do a quick Google and there were some forums posts mentioning that GOG's version of Skyrim updates a bit later than the steam version so that means you might have to put a little extra effort into making sure you have the right version of a mod for your version of the game. A lot of mods rely on packs like SkyUI, and SkyUI can break if the game version and mod version aren't in sync and thus any mod dependent on SkyUI won't work either. I played the Steam version myself but I don't imagine you'd run into any problem that couldn't be solved by bashing the folders with a wrench a bit.
