im guessing this is an either or attack in melee?? just not used to the index cards and its not exactly clear but i would have to chose to attack with either barbed ovipositor OR the clawed limbs not both?

or is it just the index cards with the arrows next to melee attacks where you chose either, like the maleceptos strike & sweep attack which is the same weapon just different attack profiles?

The Barbed Ovipositor has Extra Attacks, meaning it makes a number of attacks equal (and that can't be increased) to its attack value in addition to the other Melee weapon you choose to use.

So it attacks with both.

A model can only attack with 1 melee weapons, except for those with the Extra Attack ability as Matt.Kingsley pointed out. Thus, the Parasite gets to attack with both of its melee weapons.

I see thanks , but combined with “exploding 6s” equivalent then you can get extra attacks that way?

1st, what's giving you exploding 6s?

2nd, a weapon listed as having extra attacks simply means it gets the # of attacks listed for it in addition to whatever other weapon it's using.
If it didn't say Extra Attacks you'd have to choose between using either the claws or the oviposter.

using swarming instincts;

"Each time a Tyranids model with this Hyper-adaptation makes an attack that targets an enemy Infantry or Swarm unit, that attack has the [SUSTAINED HITS 1] ability."

so technically vs infantry you could roll a 6 to hit, which then turns to 2 rolls to wound, and if you get two 3+ anti infantry would kick in giving you 2 critical wounds + if you managed to roll 5+ on the wound rolls (most likely requirement due to strength 3 weapon) and the opponent failed to save, so worst case if you fail saves could be 4 deaths (damage don't spill over) and 4 ripper swarms

or have i got critical wounds wrong? and anti infantry wrong? im only going off what i read and watching a few battles on youtube how they applied anti infantry and critical wounds etc. so could be wrong.

The Barbed Ovipositor only gets one attack. Should it be granted Sustained Hits, a Critical Hit will result in multiple hits.

Anti-Infantry 3+ means any unmodified Wound roll of 3 or greater is a Critical Wound against an Infantry model. This just means such a roll wounds regardless of the targets Toughness.
