In a game today, we had a bit of a disagreement on when and who could use the "Grenade" stratagem.

1. Can a unit use the "Grenade" stratagem and then still fire its weapons in the same shooting phase?

2. Can a unit that has backed out of close combat use the "Grenade" stratagem?

The verbiage is very vague on this stratagem! What does
has not been selected to shoot this phase
mean? Do they mean
has not yet been selected to shoot this phase
or do they mean
will not be selected to shoot this phase

Thanks!
-Matt

Don't add own words and it's clearer. Pick a unit. Has it been selected to shoot yet? No? Can use.

Clear as mud... what's the point of saying "has not been selected to shoot this phase" if you can use it and still shoot? Why would you ever decide to shoot and then try to use it?

I'm guessing because you have more information after shooting. Is the shooting enough already? Do you still need the grenade to finish the enemy off?
Having to spend the CP on the stratagem before makes it a tougher decision, at least in theory.

You kill target? Why spend cp on grenading dead unit...

I mean guess if you have cp to waste you might but i know i usually don"t have cp to spare on literally useless thing.

The rule as written is you use a grenade, then you shoot. It definitely does NOT restrict that unit from shooting afterwards as it is currently written.

To try and read the tea leaves on what GW was thinking: This may be to prevent players from getting a unit close to death via shooting then polishing it off with a command point spend.

1. Yes, you can still shoot after using the stratagem.
2. Yes, they just need to be not in engagement range and have not been selected to shoot yet to be eligible.

Alright, fair enough. Thanks all!
