NEW STORMLORD IMPERIAL TANK BUILT ( STEP BY STEP ) HOW TO!

Hello guys, and thanks for checking out this post. I got my copy of Reload and I just had to have the new Stormlord Tank. I called GW and the rep did say that a plastic kit is in the works, but I could not wait. Here is my step by step on how to make one. It took me about 20 hours and about $15.00 of plastic card. Also, if you guys get a chance, check out the new website I built called www.myhighschoollocker.com. Its totally free, and we have a great Groups and Clubs section where 40k stuff can be posted. IM me if you have any questions. Also, its being painted as you read this so I'll have those up in the next few days. Hope you all like.

I know about the rivets, I actually did the little ones to match on most of the tank. i liked the bigger ones for the armor plating that's on top of the normal tank shell. I figured the bigger rivets made it look like it had really thick hard plating that needed heavier bolts to keep it up.

great, great job.... I have been trying to envision the transport aspect of the Stormlord, and I think you've really done well with it. In particular I like that CoD sprue stack in the corner. Little things like that go a long way.

One complaint, and it certainly isn't your fault. GW is the greatest copy-editor of the modern era, but they finally let one slip.

Where in the Datasheet for the stormlord, aside from the drawing where they are clearly labelled, does it state that this vehicle features a twin-linked heavy bolter?

Thanks GW, you're the best...

Re:NEW STORMLORD IMPERIAL TANK BUILT ( STEP BY STEP ) HOW TO!

I'm guessing GW just wanted to roll out this baby as a sneak peak regardless if they actually had a completed model. I figure they have a few different versions of this tank hidden away somewhere. They just need a few months to figure out exactly how they want to rig it up. For the one I did, I just used what I would like to play in Apoc. I love the 15 shots, and the Las / Flamer combo makes for great troop support. I really wanted to mount two heavy stubbers in the back, but I had no place to put them and make the thing look right. If you notice the picture, they have some type of turret system in the back, but that would completely cover the open top feature and leave no room for a transport area. Anyone not happy with 15 shot main weapon, 2 lascannon shots, 2 twin linked flamer shots, and a set of twin linked heavy bolters needs a new army. Also, if you read the small print, it says that the up to 20 models can shoot from the STORMLORDS shooting platform. WoW, that's two platoons of guys laying waist as this beast rumbles down the battlefield burnen sh!t alive. I can't wait to finish painting it. Pictures soon to come.

Re:NEW STORMLORD IMPERIAL TANK BUILT ( STEP BY STEP ) HOW TO!

Anti-Mag, I know what you mean. I really wanted to keep a log going with the build, but I just kinda went off the top of my head on this one. Other then that side shot of the Stormlord in Reload, I had no clue what this thing would come out like. I always just start cutting up plastic card and bitz blitzing to find what I need. I had a general idea but mostly stuff just fell in place. A Rhino door here, a Lemon part there, and so on. I look back on some of the tanks I built and I'm like "how the hell did I do that". I can bet most of the custom scratch builds I've done would come out a bit different every time. I will totally keep the painting part a bit more text based with some good pics. I just put the first coat of desert sand color on it and I'm hoping to get started tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted. In the mean time, here is a picture of my Titan to give you an idea of what the paint scheme will look like.

P.S., does this Titan look like an expensive piece of luggage? A friend of mine told me it reminded him of his girlfriends Coach Bag. LOL

I can kind of see what she means, but as an advocate of desert colour schemes I can only side with you! I am in total agreement with you when it comes to losing track of things, and this is especially prevalient in painting. I have painted many models which turned out great, only to be stumped when I tried to replicate the colours on further figures. I am currently (very slowly) working on an armoured company in desert colours, so I find this thread to be very relevant and rightfully praised. The tank looks great, so maybe our shared policy of ''make it up as we go along'' is more worthwhile than I initially thought. Who has an equal bits box? It is half the fun.

As an aside, I have made studious notes on how to achieve my current tank camo scheme, thus avoiding past pitfalls. You live and learn! I took a photo of a work in progress Leman Russ hull the other day, so if you are interested I could try and share it with you? I'm a bit of a imbecile when it comes to getting pictures up, so this may take some time Any help would be lapped up.

Anyway, all the best. Anyone who carries a titan under their arm whilst shopping is probably best agreed with.

Anti-Mag, I'm really going to try and put this painting thing on paper this time. I will post some pics as soon as possible with detail workings. I would love to see what you got cooking up. As for uploading pics, just use whatever digital camera you have and connect to your computer. I find that moving the pictures from whatever program your using to your desktop works best. that way when you browse for them with Dakka Dakka they are easy to find. Once on the desktop of your computer its just a few clicks of the mouse. Plus if you don't want them on there anymore, just drag them to your trash can and they go away. Trashing desktop photos does not delete them completely so you can still go back and grab them from the original folder later. Hope this helps, cause once your uploading pics, it will be way funner to finishes projects knowing others will be able to see your hard work. Later

Re:NEW STORMLORD IMPERIAL TANK BUILT ( STEP BY STEP ) HOW TO!

Ok guys, first I just want to say thanks to everyone for being so kind in your replies. You always worry when you build something like this on what other people will think of your work. It seem most folks like it so far. I guess I can't let you all down with my painting. So here is my step by step painting process for my version of desert paint. I always use the same kind of primer for all my models. Its worked for years, and its dirt cheap. It also sticks to resin like glue. Clean resin or not. Anyway, you can pick it up at your local Autozone for less then $5.00. Its called Dupli-Color Sandable Primer in Flat Black. Once I primed the tank I do another Autozone special, The Ultra Flat Krylon Camouflage Sand color. This works as my base and it goes on super tough. The next step is to paint all the black areas. Tracks, Gun, small details, and anything else you want blacked out. I use Boltgun Metal to dry brush some contrast to my blacks, and then its on to the red, green, yellow, and white details. The Krylon sand makes it super easy to apply light colored GW paint. Its seems like the stuff loves their paint. I only apply one coat of all my colors regardless the shade.

That's all I have done up to this point. I'll have the tank finished by tomorrow night and should have some final pics with more painting details. I included a picture of the Leman Russ to give you a final idea of what its going to look like. Once all my detail work is done, I do a kind of black varnish mix that I hand cook up at home. If anyone likes the look, just IM me and I'll send you the directions on how to make the stuff. It works better than the new GW washes, and it adds a layer of protection to the paint. Say good bye to chipped paint.

Anyway, here are some pics. Let me know your thoughts guys. Thanks

Just to clear it up for everyone. This version of Bane is open topped and does have an open section in the back. The book says that up to 20 guardsman can shoot from the shooting platform. So to answer the question, no the back will not be covered since the book calls for it to stay open. Also, there are some cad or blueprint dawings going around of this tank from GW and it clearly shows the back being open. They are working on the kit and will release it sometime next year as a complete kit. I just had to have it now.

So that's 40 guys transported and 20 that can cause some damage until they get to where they get dropped off. Plus the thing has a 15 shot Volcan Mega Bolter. Its an amazing tank in every way. I can't wait to lay some waiste to horde armies like ORKS and BUGS. Just think what this thing would do to a 12 man ork mob in open terrain. OUCH ORKS, no saves and you just got lit up. By the way, for those who don't realize what 2 oz compared to the GW wash pots, here goes.
Re:NEW STORMLORD IMPERIAL TANK BUILT ( STEP BY STEP ) HOW TO!

Some of you have IM me about the wash. Here is all the info you need on how to make the stuff and what the bottles look like when you go to Michael's.

All of this stuff I got at my local Michael's Craft Store.

You can buy it anyplace that sells this type of craft junk.

Here is what you need, and follow each part to the letter to get the result you saw on my tank.

1. Buy a 2 oz empty plastic bottle with the little white pore top on it. If you don't know what this looks like, just check out the paints and look for the Delta Creative paints for the size and look of these.
Just remember, you just need empty ones that have no paint so you have a place to mix your new wash.

2. Buy the 8 oz bottle of Delta Ceramcoat All-Purpose Sealer. $5.00 or so. It is a clear milky solution in a clear bottle with a fruity rainbow on it.

3. Buy the 4 oz bottle of Liquitex Flow Aid. $7.00 or so. Again, its a clear bottle but it has orange and black trim on it.

4. Buy or use your GW Chaos Black normal paint.

Once you have all these items you'll need to mix it the following way.

Take your 2 oz empty bottle and fill it with almost 2 oz of the All-Purpose Sealer. This should fill right to the top where the plastic bottle gets small to screw the top on.

Then take your Flow Aid, and with a steady had put 2-4 drops of the Flow Aid. Again, just 2 to 4 DROPS not oz. You don't need very much of this Flow Aid to work.

Lastly comes the Chaos Black. Put in 12 drops of the Chaos Black.

When you put in the black it will look very strange, like its not going to mix because the drops of black will just sit there. Don't worry, that's how you'll know its working. Just screw the top on and make sure you hold on to the bottle.

Start shaking it up and down, and like magic the whole thing will turn a dark grey black. That easy.

All you have to do before you use it, is to remember to shake it well, and let it sit for about 2 minutes for the bubbles to pop.

Also, it works better if you store these cap side down. The flow aid seems to try and separate from the color and goes to the bottom of the bottle. This does not hurt it, it just makes for more shaking. If you store it upside down, this does not happen.

That's it, and good luck.

Romeo Aka DiabloBats.

Oh, check out the new social networking site I just launched. its called

www.myhighschoollocker.com

Later

NEW STORMLORD IMPERIAL TANK BUILT ( STEP BY STEP ) HOW TO!

I think this is one great build, but I keep looking at the model and then to the art work and then to my own personal model and back to the book. I see one thing even the sketch work shows.. This design that GW gave us makes me think of the German Stug series of armored vechicles. In the art the tank is hull mounted like the StuG Infantry Assault Tank. Why did they print the Mega Bolter Turrent Mounted? I am not saying your tank is not pretty. I just wondering if you have heard that the tank is right? I am in the finishing part of modeling this tank. I made it with a conversion of the turrent to hold the bolter, before I paint, I would like to know if you have heard different?

Thank you so much
