Historically, so am I, or at least a brush painted blob pattern guy.

However I tried out sponging on the main disruptive pattern colour on my Horizon Wars nostalgia mechs and I rather like the effect.

Planning on putting a few smaller black shapes on there as well, then I can hit it with a wash to tie it all together. Highlighting beyond that will be dependant on what I can be bothered doing

Nice work on the camo Flinty. When I get round to painting some Guard, I plan on having fun with a camo scheme.

Oh god! There is a set of modular urbie STLs on MMF! Not quite printing all of them, but you can get a respectable Lance sorted out on a single build plate

There is an axeman in The painting queue as part of my merc Lance

However, the only merc I’ve painted so far wasn’t quite how I imagined. But it’s done. I won’t be repeating that particular scheme

A slight pause in painting tonight to assemble the Urbie Lance

Alongside the crazy skull urbie that is on the build plate just now, that’ll give me 3 AC10 armed ones, and a choice of AC20 or LRM something as support urbie

Some lovely painting and basing efforts here, Flinty.

I am partial to the Urbanmech - only learned about it while playing MWO but promptly loved it as a ridiculous trash can of doom!

Whoever came up with the Urbie to begin with was inspired... it is definitely the massively overarmed little mech that could (under very specific circumstances)

Thanks Olthannon. I really like the Kroxigor contrast, so this was a nice opportunity to use it a whole lot

Now some inspiration hit today for one of my Merc Lance. As I understand it, he works all day and he sleeps all night. He may also dress in women’s clothing and hang around in bars, but that it yet to be verified

Hello, yes! Just noticed that Flinty had this thread open. I'm running OpFor for the Inner Sphere as some weird vat-bred lunatics with very peculiar ideas about what honour is. Mainly because 20-odd years ago I preferred the look of mechs with chicken legs rather than more humanoid, and bought a binary of Ral Partha / Iron Wind Clan mechs and a star of elementals.

These then sat being bare metal in a box for a couple of decades until Flinty contacted me about some PBEM Alpha Strike. It didn't take much persuasion.

Anyhow - should probably start my own Plog once I get around to finishing the starter set's Star, taking me up to a Trinary, and coming up with some zany colour scheme for my Spheroids. Pics of what I've got so far are here:

@Dysartes - Not yet. I quite like my teal/red parade scheme, but this one might need to be some shade of black and white (red accents probabyl also required). The wreck underneath it might need ot be a lightish green to match Graphite's Ghost Bears

@Graphite - there is one for you as well

I particularly like how the optics make it look like it has a monocle. So thats Lord Stompy Skullmech to plebs like you

I’ve been distracted by dog duties over the Easter period, so just bits and pieces of progress.

But I did some battle armour.
I am backing the new Kickstarter for Mercenaries that has battle armour, but decided that if any of the boxes will be overpriced it will be that one, so partook of the benefits of Thingiverse!

Reading up on Sarna indicates that IS battle armour has one shot SRM2s that need to be jettisoned before they can use their jump jets, so whomped up a mix of with and without the launch pods. Some of them have mis-printed hands, but they are so small I don’t think it’s particularly noticeable. And I printed up enough for 5 bases to give me a few extras anyway.

Also, tokens for Alpha Strike. Unlike the punch card tokens, I put the actual Tom value for ease of reference.

I don’t have any yellow filament though, so sprinting may well be pink for me

Progress! I am theoretically painting the urban camo Lance for this months painting comp, but I am also using the opportunity to assembly line most of the rest of my mechs and my printed battle armour.

When this batch is done, I’ll have the 3 randomly coloured mechs left to finish off my merc lance, 2 other mechs in a slapchop style, a further 2 mechs to complete my desert camo Lance and 5 clanners. This might be the most models of any force Ive ever completed, other than my Horizon Wars stuff

Doing the Mercs Kickstarter has really got my mech juices flowing, so to speak.

Thanks Olthannon! The skull urbie is so stupid, I had to print one.

This batch is completed. An urban camo lance, with an Urbie best friend, and the rest of the parade scheme mechs to go with the previously completed ones. I tweaked the battle armour models to be Longinus class suits, with a mixture of ready and jettisoned SRM2 packs.

Still to go on the parade batch is a lance of Urbanmechs, but I ran out of the tufts for the basing. Remaining mechs from this initial tranche of models are the 5 clanners from the AS box, the remaining 3 mercs for the hodgepodge lance, The other 2 desert camo mechs for that lance, and a couple more for the slap-chop lance. So I think I'm about 2/3 done. Then its just waiting for the Mercenaries Kickstarter to deliver and I can do an awful lot of blue and red tanks
