Speaking of GTs,

Any truth to the rumor that GW is letting Jeff Hall go?

And if so, any thoughts if that will affect the USGTs?

(as he seemed to be the only GW rep that responded to Dakka GT questions and comments)

That is indeed true.

Apparently the GW "Powers-That-Be" thought that Mr. Hall was not doing enough with the GTs and GDs so they are getting rid of him (or may have already done so - it was supposed to happen soon).

And given the fact the he was the only GW events staff to regularly respond here when questions were raised regarding the USGTs, I would not expect much in the way of feedback from GW if questions come up for the new "GT Circuit", that funnily enough, Mr. Hall arranged for the forthcoming GT season.

However it may prove very interesting to see what happens next.

It was nice knowing ya Jeff, better luck in your next life.

As others have mentioned above, I am no longer with GW. It has been very nice working with many of you over the past four years at GTs and Games Days. I am still a very active hobbyist, so I am sure I will run into many of you at various functions! Now I can go back to enjoying the hobby outside of working in it!
The GTs and Games Days should be progressing along the path that I set up before this happened, so I hope that GW will make them as exciting as I know they can be. The tournament circuit is something I am very proud of, and I hope that it does well this year and in the future. I hope that GW gives it the support it deserves and that they take care of all the dedicated hobbyists out there that want to play in the tournament environment.
I will not be attending Adepticon now as I had planned since it will not be a work trip. I can't venture out to Chicago just for fun at this point. Maybe next year though!
I will be contributing to Dakka with this screen name from now on. Now I can join in a few more "lively" discussions :-)
Thanks,
Jeff Hall

Good luck to you, Jeff. I think everyone knows that a lot of things that happened with the GTs were beyond your control, and that you had a lot of constraints internally. Thanks for getting this year's circuit rolling...it's a good step forward. Hope to see you at Baltimore.

That is complete and utter crap. Sorry to hear about that Jeff, I hope this didn't come at a bad time (when does getting laid off ever happen at a good time?) and that you are able to leverage your experience into a better paying and more rewarding position. Even if people weren't always happy with what heppened, it was always clear to us that you put a lot of hard work into making GW's events the best possible with ever shrinking time, options and resources and that you were always willing to answer (our sometimes endless) questions promptly and courteously.

Ugh. What next, Dave Taylor gets the axe for not producing enough custom armies? Tyranid Tim: Gone. Dirty Steve: Gone. Now Jeff Hall. What the hell GWUS? As usual, when cuts come the crud cuts the quality...

Jeff this is crap and I'm joining Dakka just to reinforce that voice.

I've greatly enjoyed your tenure running US Events and have always felt you were one of the best representatives of the corporation I've ever met.

Good Luck in your future endeavors. It's a shame since you were one of the most responsive people from GW to questions posed about the Tournaments, which means a lot.

Why would he have such inside information?  He wasn't a designer, sculptor, or executive, right?

Also, proprietary knowledge stays that way, even if you've left a company. I'm not sure what sort of non-disclosure agreement, if any, GW makes it's employees sign, but it wouldn't be worth it for a former employee to gossip too much. Folks need to find a new job, and employers generally value a certain discretion when it comes to previous jobs.

Of course, I'd pay a bit of money for a GW "tell all" book. It's easier to get solid info on the Bavarian Illuminati than the sanctum sanctorum of GW.

So it would seem. I too would buy that book.
Sadly, its not like he would be writing about howard hughes or anything, so making it a best seller to recompense him for the trouble he would get into wouldnt really be possible.

Nah. He'd just have to raise the prices.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Sorry guys, all I meant by that comment was that I could now chime in on topics with my opinions on things.
I don't have any inside scoop to share. Decisions are made in the UK on playtesting, models, army books, and more and we didn't have any insight on that stuff. We found out like the rest of you (just a bit earlier).

First off Jeff, I'd just like to wish you the best and just say that I personally enjoyed all of the work you put into your job (at least the parts that I know of).

Second, I'm well aware that the US division doesn't have any juicy scoops when it comes to game design but I'm curious if you can (or want to) talk about GWUS politics. Are positions being cut across the board, or are you (and others) leaving because you see the ship is sinking, or is this just the normal course of business in your opinion?

In hindsight, how did GW corporate help or hamper you in making Grand Tournaments the best they could be? Were the budget restrictions killing the chance to make something great or is it partially (or wholly) the Events department's fault for letting the GTs get to such a bloated state that they had to be cancelled for a year?

How do you feel about the state of WD, from the perspective of the USWD team (I don't know if you had any contact with them or not)? It seems to me that some sort of directive has been implemented for WD to make it so much more 'by the numbers', and removing the names and faces of those who are actually contributing to the mag. Why is this?

Basically, any insight on your job, the circumstances that led to your no longer being employed, and/or your opinions on the company and the hobby in general would be fascinating to myself (and I'm sure to others).

Of course, if you can't respond because you are bound by a NDA, professional courtesy, or that's just not how you roll, I would completely understand as well.
