The Miniatures Page has a pretty good WWII section. As far as historical resources go, for doing research on different units and their organizations and Orders of Battle, here are a couple more resources that I've found useful. Here is a very nice website that includes quite a bit of information on Battalion-level Organization in WWII. It has info for British and Commonwealth forces, as well as US Army and US Marines, and German, Italian, Japanese, and Soviet forces. I've found this website quite useful and interesting, personally. Also, if you are looking for information on specific German units, Feldgrau is a very nice resource. For lots of pictures of German tanks and equipment, Achtung Panzer also has some nice resources. If you're looking for color pictures, World War II in Color has quite a variety of interesting photos. I hope this helps!

Here on Dakka we have our Flames of War Gallery which has a couple of hundred images, as well as a general World War 2 gallery that contains some flames of war stuff, other inspiring WW2 modelling projects and lots of WW2 propaganda posters.

Description
Welcome to FoW New England!
This group has been formed to energize and organize the FOW community in New England. Our primary goal is to support FoW-related events throughout the Northeastern United States, and coordinate group activities.
Group Features
We want this group to be an asset for players. Features of this group that will be used to support our efforts include:
Mailing List: Messages between group members to coordinate activities in the region
Calendar of Upcoming Events: Lists upcoming events in the region. Feel free to add game events, tourneys and conventions of interest.
Links: Links to gaming venues and groups in the region. Hopefully, you'll find a location near you. Please add your own favorites!
User-driven content: Everyone is encouraged to add content. Group ownership and moderation will be distributed to a large core group. We want to avoid this becoming yet another abandoned group with no active management.

Lots of interesting Arnhem (Market Garden) related information on this site.
Defending Arnhem
It seems to be WIP at the moment but it should prove very handy for those looking to build historically accurate lists for the upcoming Market Garden Flames of War expansions.

By the way, if you don't have it yet, DEFINITELY download and print out a copy of the comprehensive FoW Index. It's a real time saver when you're trying to find something in the rulebook. You can find it at the hard-to-read link at the bottom of: http://fow.benisch.se/#home

Question: is 1/144 (also refered as N scale?) compatible with 15mm?

15mm is 1:100 so not quite, but some buildings, scenery etc. will look fine. Aircraft in flames of war are 1:144 so any aircraft will match fine. TT scale is 1:100.

N-scale is actually anywhere from 1:148-1:160 according to Wikipedia. It varies a surprising amount.
Heavy Gear is 1:144 and n-scale terrain is common. I've got some model railroad minis that look good, but some '10mm' stuff looks a bit weirdly sized... I got some JR Miniatures 10mm stuff and it's a bit small compared to my other scenery!
So, uh, go for the 15mm stuff. JR Miniatures makes a bunch, and it's pretty affordable...

For those of us who hate metal/resin:
Plastics manufactures:
http://theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/ - These guys make basic Infantry in plastic as well as a number of tanks. Really great kits. I think you get 130 infantry with 26 different poses for like $30 and five tanks for about the same price. I buy mine from Sargent Major Minatures since the warstore is usually sold out (if a good bit cheaper). Their T-34's come with both the 76 and 85 turrets so you can paint up both and swap them out for what you need for your current game.
http://www.zvezdagames.de/epages/62844138.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62844138/Products/6134E - Only the vehicles for Zvezda's Operation Barbossa game are 15mm so be careful and dont buy the infantry or artiliry. Still they are good looking little mini's that go togeather super quick. And the best part? They are like $3.50 from the warstore, or 5 for $18 from some e-bat stores. They have mostly russian and german stuff atm.
http://www.thewarstore.com/PointofContactMiniatures.html - Pre painted 15mm WWII tanks. They look eh, though a quick wash or stain improves them a bit, or you can just repaint them. But 5 tanks (including several types of tigers!) for $19.99 from the warstore is pretty hard to argue with, and they dont look to bad.
Axis and Allies minatures: http://www.thewarstore.com/axisalliesminiatures.html. Several sites sell individual mini's as well. I picked up 5 SU-76M's for I think .89 cents each. As a warning the scale on the older sets is what one might call fething horrid, but in the last few sets it has been corrected and their infantry and armor is 15mm. Its not the best looking stuff around, but its pre-painted (though I repainted all of mine) and most minatures are less then a dollar, and few are more then two or three bucks.
Awesome premade terrian for WWII (Unfortunately not plastic):
http://www.hobbybunker.com/products/jr-miniatures-117/mfg/335 - JR minatures makes some good stuff. Lots of really big buildings and bridges, as well as modular rivers and roads.
http://www.baueda.com/cama.html - Like resin scenic bases? These guys make a lot of them in 15mm that seem to be made for FoW. They also have some terrain and battle field accessories. Their bunkers are super awesome.
http://www.kerrandking.co.uk/ - More great bases and terrain.
If anyone knows any other good plastics manufactures for WWII stuff in 15mm let me know!!

If you hate trying to get static grass to go on right: http://www.sceneryexpress.com/products.asp?dept=1056
They sell siflor tufts, which has a line of pre done little bushes and stuff in 2mm, 4mm, and 6mm tufts to use. They really make your bases look great in a hurry, and have shades that look natural for every season. Also for the 24 pack you get what is, for me at least, a life time supply. Scenery Express also has lots of other stuff that works well for basing too.

Army painter is nice, and my local story carries army painter, but the army painter pack for $10 bucks or so gives you roughly 1/8th as much tufts as the siflor pack for $24. This is because army painter just repackages siflor and sells it to wargammers, since the siflor stuff is marketed towards model train folks. I don't hold it against them though, since they do have some really nice primer lines.

Try Antenocitis Workshop (I am UK based!) http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/wargames-bases-basing/mininatur-silflor/mininatur-silflor-grass-tufts-small-packs.html for Siflor tufts and lots more.
