SCEA president Kaz Hirai recently commented on launch of the PS3, saying it would be hard for the company to keep up with demand during this holiday season. Even with 2 million units available on launch day, there would be less than 700,000 consoles assigned each of the three major territories. Now, it appears as though there won't be 700,000 units available period, with Europe not seeing the system until early 2007.

Hmmm, well I've been waiting this long for a PS3, waiting longer won't hurt, besides, Im the kind of guy who has all the platforms anyway... I just hope when it does come out it is right, with no bugs hardware or software wise, and good release content!

That's what I'd be most concerned about (faulty hardware) with the initial release.

If you remember back to the PS2 launch those first units shipped had some serious issues with the DVD tray.

I personally would be a hesitant to pick up the first generation of PS3s since we're dealing with an entirely new type of technology (Blu-Ray) who knows what sort of bugs/issues are going to be discovered/corrected within the first few months of the release?

Indeed sir, who knows.

I find as I get older, that I have more patience where these things are concerned, it doens't matter to me if I get a launch box or not, I barely play all the titles I have for old systems anyway.  I want the new ones, but it must work right, the first time, or it's not worth my time.  Im just now getting around to acquiring a 360 and haven't been sad about it at all.  I can see by so many gamer tags here that Im behind, including you Yak!

Im getting old, I want quality over speed and quantity.

That said Im also begining to be dubious about Sony's online response, I haven't read much about what the PS3 will include, or what online capabilities will be possible but if the 360 is any indicator it seems as though a solid online component to any home entertainment system has become a benchmark.  Is the PS3 going to have this capability? Is Sony loosing user base as people grow acquainted with the 360s online GUIs and games? I do not claim to be an authority but it would seem so.

I have been playing WoW and other MMORPGs for some time, and have enjoyed the online features in Halo and other games, I expect that I will create a 360 account to use those games as well and play other people.  IF the PS3 doesn't offer that too, it will be a serious flaw.
