Rumor has it (via OXM) that Microsoft is developing a new "advanced" 360 controller that may feature... now get his ... a trackball in place of the right thumb stick.

That would be very cool, as suddenly console FPS games would have the aiming precision of a mouse!  Not to mention what it could do for future RTS titles.

The idea seems so obvious, I can't believe it hasn't been done before.

I've used a track ball for gaming and all I can say is that it isn't a mouse. It will take a lot of getting used to for those who wish to put the time in. I'm not really sure if something like a thumb ball will really be any better than a really sensitive digital stick. Time I guess will tell.

I used to game with a track ball and liked it. But your right, it won't be for everyone. It's an interesting idea.
