OK, it's out today, and already receiving rave reviews.  My personal favroite line:

You might think Imperial Baneblades and Ork Squiggoths are powerful. How quaint. Wait until you see a fully awakened Monolith. It might look and move like a fat Dalek just dropped in from an episode of Dr. Who, but it is, hands down, the single most powerful thing you'll ever see in Dawn of War.

I'll be picking up my copy today, and be looking for some online action tonight.

A few tips:

  • The "Expansion" is stand alone, that is you don't need the earlier copies of the games to play it.  However...
  • Although you can play all 7 races (IG, SM, Chaos, Ork, Tau, Necron, Eldar) in the single player campaign you can only play Tau and Necrons online UNLESS you have the previous games installed.
  • The single player campaign is different this time around, with persistent maps and persistent armies and characters.  As you gain ground your characters gain new wargear.  If you fight in the same territory you'll see the structures you built last time still there.  This sounds like the kind of map-based-campaign you always dreamed of in 40k, come alive in DoW.
  • This is still the original DoW engine, so don't expect some of the new ground breaking stuff you see in "Company of Heros" to be in this one.

Nice.

Sorry, but I picked up Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and Army Builder, so I'm
pretty much tapped out on video game budget.

I'll snag it later this week, or maybe next week.  I won't have much time for it for a few weeks, and I still haven't finished Company of Heroes.  Damn Relic for dropping two great games in a one-month period!!

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I gave it a play, seems pretty nice. I like the map, though for some reason I was completely overwhelmed by WAVES after WAVES of chaos raptors when attacking a lvl 2 chaos colony?

Cool game, played Necrons thorughout the campaign. Was a bit easy, though, even though i played on hard. The key was to attack the enemies early on with your honor-guard. Then, only the Strongholds are a bit tricky.

But overall, the game is very fun, and the new races really add a lot to the atmosphere. The new infiltrate rule is a bit confusing at first but you get used to it.

I recommend this piece of game to every 40k player out there...all others should at least try it out.

I got it yesterday, and I'm having a lot of fun with the campaign. I've been taking territories from the Necrons, fought the Orks once, attacked the Guard once, and mounted a successful defence against the Guard as well. Chaos is fun, and thankfully CSM squads can get Plasma Guns.

I've been playing tau on campaign and a couple of skirmish necron games.

Absolutely blows the old editions out of the water.

Been having some late nights since it came out.

And damn the tau can punch out a hell of alot of fire power.
One favorite tactic is to race into th emiddle of the enemy with 2 drone harbingers and just alternate making drones between them using hot keys. Within 30 seconds there are over 20 drones blsting everything in sight.

Been enjoying it mightily. Played Tau and once your shas'o is fully tricked out he is a GOD. I especially like maxing out on jump infantry (stealth and Crisis) backed up by hammerheads, the shas'o and drone harbingers.
