I am so excited about Gears of war, that I have started a space marine scout army based on the CoG fighters! Check it out in the 40K Army Forum.

I have watched all of the ign.com films, and have pre-ordered a copy of the game at Best-buy, for I no longer support gamestop or ebgames.

I actually have the day off on weds, which is nice! So we'll see if it lives up to the hype!

Gears of War Reviews:

From the moment that we clutched the 360 controller in our sweaty palms and witnessed the first couple of minutes of the multiplayer map called Gridlock we were stunned. I exchanged a few glances with the HEXUS.gaming Editor Nick Haywood which was enough to convey the message. We didn't have to say anything; it was the language of the gamer, the twinkle in his eye, and his ever widening smile that told me that he was thinking exactly what I was thinking. It was a moment where I just wanted to lay bare my inner emotions and shout at the top of my voice. It was moment that defied all logic as I struggled to come to terms with how the first moments of a videogame had entered my soul like no other before and left me tingling from head to toe. I took up position behind the cover of a car and sat there shaking my head in disbelief, frozen with awe, but occasionally brave enough to take a few pot-shots at an enemy on the far side of the map. As a person who's been gaming for 18 years, I can honestly say that playing Gears of War is undoubtedly the highest I've ever felt while playing a videogame. Forget drugs and alcohol, everything you need to get that adrenaline pumping is coming our way in November. <script type="text/javascript"><!-- D(["mb","</blockquote><br>

The code we got to play was the same as that which went gold on the 25th and you'll be glad to know that we were impressed. We were VERY impressed. So much so, the title, 'Best Game EVER!', could almost be merited. However, as I only spent three or four hours with the code, bestowing such a title would be going a bit early to say the very least.

I am excited for GoW.  I'm more excited for R6:Vegas.  But GoW has it's own real charm.  It's also the mega-budget, mega-blockbuster the X360 needs right now.  It's been a long time coming.

And screw Emergence Day!  I'm getting the game as soon as possible, and going to town.

Yeah, I'll be getting the Collecter's too, I'm a sucker for the cool metal cases.  Bungie has kicked it up a notch, they've just announced that there will be 3 editions of Halo 3, with the most expensive being legendary which is $99 and includes a helmet.

Must ... resist ... cheesy ... helmet.

But its the right size to fit on a cat.
I'm considering getting a cat to model it on (of course i'd have to paint the rest of the cat olive green to match)

Ign.com has it's review up, they gave it a 9.4! I really trust their reviews...I can hardly wait til tomorrow to get mine....

As a side note does anyone use a computer monitor for their screen or TV?? Just curious...I don't have an HDTV yet... was wondering if a high res monitor was a better option

Thanks,
Chappy P!

PS: I am going for the collector's edition mainly for the art book...I am a sucker for art books!

So I called Best Buy this morning at 10:30am and asked if they had GoW, to which they said:

yes, we're selling it for $69.99.

Sweet, I thought, and I drove out to Best Buy. I got there only to discover I had been given erroneous information.

Now I'm stuck at work and I can't get out to pick up GoW when EB Games gets it in at 7pm tonight.

I am a very, very sad boy.

I got it yesterday at EB for the usual 69.99. If my 360 gets back from being repaired this week I'll hopefully even get to PLAY it.

I grabbed FEAR and CoD3 as well. It'll be a shooterific weekend if I have a 360 to play with.

Yes, I use my monitor, it works great!! You'll need to pick up the VGA cable for your 360, but you can run the games great on a PC monitor, they look fine on my 20" Viewsonic that's over 6 years old.

The reviews are going insane for this game, it's already received FIVE 10.0's according to www.gamerankings.com.

It could be worse. You could have a copy sitting next to your collection of Controllers, headsets and your hard drive... while your console rots in Microsoft's repair center.

Well I found a copy this afternoon at around 1pm, and got about 3 hours in before I had to go to work. Unfortunately they didn't have the collector's edition, but I figure I can always sell back the used copy, eat the $20 buck drop and buy the collector's edition later if I really want it.

Anyway, my initial impressions were that the game was so overhyped I didn't know what I was expecting. Perhaps for my 360 to levitate or the images to pop out of the screen in 3D. . .I wasn't sure.

Needless to say, none of that happened, and when I realized that this was still just a VIDEO GAME I must admit I suffered a few minutes of slight dissapointment.

But then I also realized that I was having a whole lot of FUN playing this video game, and the disappoinment of course vanished.

The game is fun and looks awesome. It doesn't change the world and it certainly isn't perfect. When enemies get really close to you it becomes very difficult to shoot them. That may have been purposely designed to make close quarters fighting difficult but it may just be a shortfall with the game controls.

Either way, it certainly doesn't really affect the overall experience of the game.

Obviously if you have a 360, you're getting this game. If you don't have a 360 should you buy one for this game? If you like shooting and action at all, I'd say absolutely yes.

I found the game to be awsome...But I see your point Yakface...I just played a good 2-3hours and yes, close combat fighting can suck, but like you said I soon forgot that and got immersed(sp) into the game. I don't think it was overly hyped though...I don't feel disappointed at all.

For me, personally, I think a little more time with the game...to get a hang of the controls will make all the difference in the world...earth shattering? No I suppose not, but it still makes me want to run out to my LGS and buy some more scout boxes to make my themed Gears Scout army! Heack yeah that's gonna happen now!

Overall I give it two thumbs up! Way up!

Thanks,
Chappy P!

My quick first impressions:

Picked it up last night, my brother came over and we played co-op campaign on Hardcore dificulty for about 3 hours.

Of course the graphics blow you away, (yes, it does look like the commercials) but lets get to gameplay...

At first it was "This is pretty neat" but as time went on the game went from pretty neat to very enjoyable to "Oh my God this is the most fun I've ever had with a friend and a video game."

Is it the story?  Nope, the story and dialoge are fun, but not deep.

My brother described it best: Playing this game, you get the adrenaline rush we used to get playing paintball.  Your pinned down, it's hard to figure out friend from foe, where is the fire coming from, you HAVE to flank, you HAVE to out manuver. Every time you move from cover to cover there the feeling "oh crap, I'm gonna die."

The enemies are hard to kill, and each kill is extremly satisfying.  A chainsaw kill is a joy to behold.

As you move from area to area, each new 'zone' feels like a tactical puzzle to solve.  You're pinned down by a turret emplacement up top, a grenadier is flanking you, and multiple boggies are coming in from the left... what do you do?  A direct rush is not an option... do we have grenades?  Can someone pin a guy down while the other rushes a flank?

Best moment so far... friend and I are fighting off hordes of little termigaunt type creatures in a corridor.  He goes down (you can revive your friends if you get close).  I'm pushing towards him... ammo down to 100 rounds... closer ... ammo down to 50 rounds ... closer ... ammo down to 20 rounds...  I kill the last guy and revive my friend.  Rounds left in chamber?  ONE!!!

Holy crap was that cool.

This is a game that will not amaze you in an hour, but it IS a game that the more you play, the more you will discover it's wonder.

Try it co-op ... it will amaze.  It's a little to early for me to rate this in my best games of all time list, but it's got a good start.

Yak, (or anyone) if you want to try co-op some time, drop me an invite.  Friends can jump in and help out in single player at any time.  And trust me, play the game on Hardcore.  Casual is not as cool.

I got to play abot 30 minutes worth last night, and it's nice.  I took it easy just to get a feel for the controls, but I do like it.  Russ, I'll look for you online when I can; I'm NonesuchElder (I'll add you as a friend as well).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I really want to try out Co-op. I just love Co-op games in general and this one is obviously designed to take advantage of it.

The problem is my damn work schedule and the fact that I'm on the West Coast means I'm usually either on at 4am-7am EST (when I get off work) or when I wake up around 2pm-5pm EST. Unfortunately, most everyone else isn't playing at that time.
