You could always do a mini test with some of the large resin tabs in a bowl to see how that goes?

I thought the oven cleaner might be hit or miss because it would normally be used on a treated metal surface.

Oh and you may or may not like this but I was reading your blog the other day, specifically your post about Berserk.

I went to look it up further and stumbled across this.

It's a cover from the OST done with traditional instrument sounds as opposed to the kind of synth sound of the original.

Thought it was quite cool and worth sharing.

Hey here you go Simple Green UK http://www.simplegreen.co.uk/index.php/domestic-products buy it direct from here, I would say it is the best stuff I have used to strip resin models.

I tried Dettol which worked to a degree but was not perfect simple green was way better, the only thing I will say is when soaking your models check daily I left some smaller stuff in which went rubbery after a few days.

It will harden up eventually but not to its original state so keep an eye on it, and if you can find a large zip lock bag like you get with oven cleaners use them as you use less liquid and the airtight seal seems to help things along.

Hope this helps, o yes keep the liquid afterwards as you can reuse it but you might want to sieve out any larger gloopy bits.

Thanks guys, I have used simple green and dettol for paint stripping, much prefer simple green but for this project I wanted something stronger, I don't need to strip paint, I need to clean resin of mold release, and I don't want to have to scrub at all. Far too much stuff for a zip lock bag too! Full bathtub at least.

I have a plan anyway, I'll see how it goes.

Kingdom Death: Monster

Despite being marred by somewhat tacky pinups, the Kingdom Death: Monster game proved too hard to resist. It is inspired by Berserk and is an extremely elaborate boardgame - both things that really appeal to me. I painted my set up to look as if the pieces are carved from bone or a similar exotic material, I wanted them to look like an expensive chess set rather than miniature figures.

Interesting idea, unconventional as to be expected from you. I can see why you'd do it.
TBH it's slightly disappointing though. When I read your name and Kingdom Death in one line of the P&M I was looking forward something more gruesome and sinister.

Yeah they don't seem to be appealing to many folk. My goal was to make something like a luxury chess set or an occult boardgame,

I am not invested enough in the background or models to really go to town with conversions or to try a unique take on them. I may find myself more drawn to the models and story as I play (the plot is revealed as you go) but to my mind, they work best as a sort of metaphor, and I'd rather think of them as the sort of game pieces that creepy gods or grim reapers might push around on some symbolic cosmic game board that affects the fates of the mortals in the realms below.

I really like this idea, the models have enough sculpted detail on them that it works. Quite a fresh take, it's certainly more appealing than having to paint them all lol (When I say that, I mean as you would normally do them)

I like the idea but from afar they just look like they've been primed white. Maybe some marble effects?

I like the way they've turned out.

Perhaps picking out the eyes as if they were marble statues set with precious jewels or even metals might help distinguish them a bit more?

I think the photos probably don't show them in enough detail, here is a close up:

I was in two minds about picking out the eyes, it goes against the idea that they are carved out of bone or stone, but it does look quite cool I think. I know they won't be to everyone's tastes!

That's a straight forward but really effective and interesting approach to painting the figures. They do look like living sculpture. Very well done Bruticus.

Second photo looks far better. It really shows the detail and makes hem look properly and expertly painted!

You've really nailed the look of old stone sculpture, it's a great effect.
On the subject of paint stripping, have you tried Fairy Power Spray?

Beautiful stuff especially that building on the left of the top photo. The rust girders are excellent!
