The Last Chancer Who Survived

For my 2nd HQ choice I usually take an inquisitor. So far I've given him a spare left over marine rhino that I used to use for the command squad so it was decorated better.. but I think I wanna go with the all chimera thing since it's a guard army. Here's a pic so far... I ordered the Forge World inquisition rear door and brass etch symbols and I'm still waiting for them to arrive before I finish it all. I did a conversion for the turret with a regular heavy weapon team autocannon instead of the usual multilaser, it was just a quick & easy snip & swap. I'm not sure if I want to keep the book in the front (no idea where it came from but it was burried in my bitz box) or replace it with a brass symbol. And for the top of the turret I think I'll go for the closed hatch with heavy stubber in the end. And you might not be able to tell but I dremeled off the lasgun holes in the back and smoothed it out with greenstuff. I figured an inquisitor wouldn't be driving a unit of guardsmen around so there's be no one to shoot them anyway So I just wanted it to look smooth & flat there. And for the HK missiles, is 2 too much? I was going to mount them over the middle lasgun holes on the top sides but it looked like they were gonna hit the turret if you fire em And I know they can only have 1 missile, but I had the extra old fashioned pod and they matched so it's just for looks.. Anyway wadaya think so far? Any ideas?

I like it. IMO, the two missiles are a little much. While his chimera is still a fighting vehicle, I'm guessing your inquisitor is more concerened with getting around than destorying enemy tanks.
How are you going to paint it?

The driver doesn't want to see where he's going? You have blocked his viewslit with that book... Otherwise, looking good so far.

I'm still not totally sold on the missiles. Wasn't sure where to put them and I feel like the model needs something extra on it. I could try the standard new HK missiles but I don't really like the short & fat look they have. I didn't want to load it up with backpacks and sleeping bags like a guard tank might have since this is supposed to be something more special for the inquisitor and his posse. I also wanted to take the eye off of the former lasgun holes in case they're not as smooth as they look after I paint it. I was also thinking about extra armor but I don't know how to represent it. I don't really like look of big rectangles on the sides like some people do.
As far as the driver not seeing where he's driving, faith in the emperor shall be his guide!
Not sure about colors yet either but it will probably end up being black like my other tanks.
I'm still waiting for a few things before I can finish it.. the FW stuff plus the baneblade next week. Might be some spare bitz from it that I can use, also the tank commander I heard has a whole bunch of different heads so I'll see what I wanna use for the inquisitor tank commander.

This may be nitpicky, but maybe you could add an unobtrusive little sensor or something that would provide a video feed to the guy inside? The "driver can't see where he's going" factor does kind of jump out.
Other than that, I honestly think it looks good already. Why shouldn't an Inquisitor care about tank-busting? Presumably heretics have tanks, too!

I gave it some more thought.. I decided to pop off the missiles. They're just not working for me. Maybe if I could figure out a way to get the smaller marine sized HK missile pods going I'll try that. The book I still like however And I like the sensor array idea. I also thought about cutting a slit over the book in the upper part of the tank and having some plasticard over it kind of like a visor, maybe the driver could look out from there. Still waiting for my FW bitz.. i ordered em on saturday, hopefully they'll be here soon but I heard they're kind of backed up with all the Apocalypse stuff folks are ordering now

As it's a command tank how about adding a comms relay? You could put a series of antenna and a satellite dish on top instead of the missiles

yeah I was thinking of something like that. I didn't want to use the improved coms bit that comes with the tank, i'm afraid that will just break off or the antenna will bend. I saw some other tanks that have a really long antenna but instead of going straight up, it starts in the back and bends forward and they attach the top of it to the front of the tank. Looked kinda cool so I may try that if I can find a suitable antenna bit. Maybe I can get a really thin brass rod or thin plastic tube/rod .. I want to do the same thing for the guard command platoon hq tank too

Arial antenna's are pretty common use for most tanks/apc's. Especially long ones are normally used on command vehicles for the extra range. And most command vehicles use multiple arial antenna's for all the command frequencies they're using to control the flow of the battle. You'll normally find a few different types of antenna's on top of a command vehicle too.
Just some first hand experience that might help you out ^_^!

If you want the fin look on the back of your chimera like the original picture, perhaps you could add some Laud Hailers from the Immolator sprue? They would have the high look on the back that is has now (which I kind of like, like an old school Cadilac) but with more of an inquisitorial flair. It might help set it apart a bit from the rest, and mark it as more of an inquisitor's pimp sled as opposed to a no nonsense fighting vehicle.

It's been a long time since i had a whole saturday with nothing at all to do. I finished building my Baneblade and while i was waiting for the primer and basecoat to dry, I got to finish building my Inquisitor's chimera. I had to wait till now anyway, because it took 3 weeks for my FW stuff to come, I finally got it yesterday! It's the FW chimera rear door and those little bitz in the front that came with it, plus brass etched Inquisition symbols. The eagles I already had. I removed those HK missiles, I just decided they didn't look right. Anyway, wadaya think?

Looks cool, though I don't understand exactly how the brass etchings work. Do you just not paint over them, or scratch errant paint off afterwards?
I don't like the rear door though. The designs are cool, just that the hydraulics wouldn't work. Usually that sort of silliness doesn't bother me, but this is sort of a very obvious case. Still, great look over all, and should look great painted.

This is more of a pet peeve than anything else, but I'd cut off the muzzle brake on the autocannon, turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise and glue it back on. Muzzle brakes on tanks typically have the holes on the sides, deflecting the gas expansion to both sides. Alternatively, you could fill in the slots, as autocannons don't necessarily need vented brakes.
