Well now I wanna try and make a pretty design out of dirt and Netherwrack.

Could be interesting to try and do a 'natural' look, but in an obsidian box for safety. Though I don't know how you'd keep spawns down in that case. Guess slab floor is still necessary.

Let me know how building that dirt and netherack tunnel works when you're hanging 80+ blocks above lava and a ghasts blasts the tunnel out from under you. Not that I've been there or done that or, um... what were we talking about?

Ah I've been neglectful and not seen news of the update until now. After mulling it over for a hour I've decided to just bite the bullet and commit to a fresh start, with fresh ideas from my creative worlds I'm hoping to further improve my design and a fresh start is probably the kick start I need. Whole hog and no old inventory. Although I'll miss my cat Lady fluffington...

I actually did that to start with- just to sort of experience things from a base, new game perspective, before I got my mining equipment from the other server.

It's pretty neat/awesome. If I weren't a megabuilder, I'd have been perfectly happy just staying as-is and building from the ground up.

I'm having trouble connecting atm, but tbf I'd did just take a rediculus amount of time for my launcher and build to update... So Im probably suffering from bad Internet atm...

I load in and everything is black apart from the sky box...

Argh... Will continue working on it after dinner.

I completely get what you're saying! I'm not a mega builder by any measure though I was proud of my little irondale village it was added to for years and at least 1 server hop so I thought maybe a clean break will bring me some fresh ideas

I keep loosing connection with the following

Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException:Java. util.zip.DataFormalException: incorrect header check

Im not massively familiar with errors or what they mean, so what am I doing wrong here causing connection issues? As the server clearly runs fine. I'm assuming the issue is my end or user error.

Edit I solved the rendering my pc wasn't loading the chunk fast enough so I glitched into the ground before it loaded. Changed render distances etc and I can load on terra firma

Still unable to join the server

Error code is now
Internal Exception: java.net.socketexception connection reset

I'm at a loss here I've tried the usual obvious fixes but I'm at my tech knowledge limit now.

Given that it's a Java error you're getting, the only thing I can think of to try would be to uninstall and reinstall Java.

EDIT: I just googled your particular error message, and you're not the only one suffering from it. I see lots of possible causes and fixes listed in various discussions, but no single miracle solution, unfortunately. Some say updating Java fixes it, some say using a VPN fixes it, some say turning off their firewall fixes it, etc., etc.

I get this one from time to time. I usually have to exit MC completely and restart it as Administrator. Sometimes more than once.

Will try above suggestions. Really want to get into the new server and build something new, and it sucks that I can't for now. I'll keep working on the problem.

Is anyone else getting a "Connection refused: No further information" error, or is it just me?

Just tried to log in, getting that problem, too.
Could be a power or internet outage at Darkinnit's house that's got the server down?

Aha there were severe storms here in the last few days -- our Tuesday online D&D was cancelled as one of our players was on his 4th day without power...

I hope Dark is OK!

We now have a tested, verified, and proven "kill box" for Withers under the central portal in the End. Entrance is on the East side of the portal.

You only need to bring three wither skelly skulls and four soul sand/soil for each Nether Star you need. I might "fancy it up" a bit later but that'll have to be after I find a better spot for my base.

Wow, Breotan, that's fantastic news. I didn't even know it was possible to automate the process. Well done.

Not automated, per se., more like easy mode. You still have to whack it with your sword if you want it to die quick and drop a Nether Star. The only down side is that you won't be getting wither roses this way.

Sorry for the radio silence for a while. The Minecraft server has now been updated to 1.18.2.
Nothing too exciting for casual players in this minor update:

The Minecraft server runs from a datacenter based in Germany, so you shouldn't have to worry if I need to turn off my home power or trip over a cable etc
I don't know what was happening on the 24th February, sometimes you can get errors like that if Minecraft's authentication servers are down or perhaps the datacenter was having connectivity problems, either way, it seems to be resolved.

There is a way to automate killing the Wither, but it's not easy to set up. I watched them do it on Hermitcraft last year. You set up a whole bunch of dripstone stalactites to fall down on it from really high up. The timing is hard to get right, though.

Does dripstone need a water block directly above it in order to grow a stalactite? Or does it work like a farm such that the water block can be two or three squares away as long as water flows to the dripstone?

Yep, needs a water source block. Same with lava.

The lava dripstone free furnace fuel thing is not only a very pretty addition to any dwarf cavern complex, it also makes copper refining much more manageable

uh just don't do what I did, and have a bucket of lava in your hand when you try to open a door, and accidentally die in your own new lava pool which also burns through your diamond gear

Thanks for the info about the dripstone. I'm probably going to have to add dripstone manually to my lush caverns which is why I was asking about how many dripstone blocks a single block of water could support.

Hard at work building my auto sorting system.

The image below is one slice of the system. When finished, I will have two wings of 40 sorters with 25 double chests each, connecting into to my auto furnace setup. The center of the image is non-sorted storage for potions and stuff like that. The goal is that if I toss some ore into the system, it gets sorted to the blast furnace and then the resulting ingots get sorted into chests. Works for cooking food, too.

I cannot even begin to describe the number of trees I'm chopping down to supply the chests and hoppers for this thing. The old tree farm was really pretty efficient at getting a lot of lumber in a quick fashion. For now, I have to run through the forest, chopping and replanting trees, over and over again.

Spruce. Spruce was my answer for sourcing all the wood for my sorting system. Plant a batch of saplings in a 4x4 or bigger space, bonemeal the corners in each 2x2 square to make them grow into really tall and think spruce trees. Then just use scaffolds to climb to the top of your mega tree and chop your way down.

Hey, does anyone have any good recommendations for modpacks?

Nothing too CPU intensive, but preferably with a mix of magic and tech, and maybe questing?
