Ok, so I am not dead, just ridiculously busy. Angela took some work in progress pics of me installing the new dishwasher for 8+ hours Sunday. I might post them; they are more entertaining than pictures of me studying for my new job I just started.
Never fear though! The Lions are getting some love, just very slowly. I am maybe 1/3 of the way through on the 10 assault marines.

After they are done, I might start painting some random "Dark Age" mini's I just had delivered from the War Store. A few Forsaken for various death cult assassins and the like in my Sisters army, so that might be the thing for "blue and white burnout".

Or perhaps the Baneblade/Inquisitional Pimp Sled conversion I am planning...

At anyrate, pictures of some sort over the weekend, since it will be a rather familyless Thanksgiving.

Ok, I haven't been posting as much as I could, but I have not been painting all that much either. I got the 10 man assault squad about 50-60% done, then got annoyed assembly-lining 10 at once, so I did five to completion. Or really about 90%... for some reason I get about 90% done with the minis in this army and think "FINALLY!" and promptly move to the next.

Now, that's all I got done on them. Why you ask? Because Shrew of these forums was gentleman enough to come over Friday and help me insulate my crawl space. By "help me" I mean "do all the real work while I lie there in coveralls and cringe at the various forms of life under there." In return, I am painting a squad of his firewarriors that desperately needed it. They desperately needed their heads glued on, if nothing else.

4 of 12 completed. Note the Shas'ui reaching for his knife, and the other pulling a grenade off their belts. If I had figured a way to paint the reflection of some Seraphim with their panties in a bunch bearing down on these boys with murderous intent, I would have. As it stands, they are simply posed as though they are going to "fight in melee," by which I mean "run in fear from 7 pairs of X chromosomes." I was tempted to pose one with a Seraphim burying her eviscerator in the filthy alien's chest, but hey, this is not a present for me.

If you look closely though, you will notice they all wet their pants. Even the Shas'ui rocking the capris, for no apparent reason.

Nice looking Blue Guys, and nice payment for Shrew's hard work. I've actually played his Tau before, and can attest to Shrew being a great guy. In fact, I probably owe him a rematch now that it's been nearly a year since our last throwdown ...

The marines are nice too, though the white paint looks a bit thick to me. Not usually a problem with your Lions, perhaps it's undercoat or something?

And can I assume you're not playing in the RTT Dec 15? $5 for 3 games, and my personal strategy is going up against a disgusting list and exposing my soft chaotic underbelly FTL, so I can drop down in the standings and play a couple "fun" games with the Portal regulars :S

Yea, Shrew is a good man, enough so that I feel a little guilty purging his xenos filth from the face of the galaxy. Just a little though. Also enough so that I am going to correct the fact I neglected to paint the gators grey instead of black, or at all on the shas'ui. I still don't know how I convinced myself he was wearing shorts. Then again, I might leave on the clam diggers, and instead model him a little shovel and bucket. Maybe even a straw hat.

The white looks a bit better in person. I was messing around with the sharpness settings, and I might have over done it. I think you can see every single brush stroke. You can definitely see the spots on the back packs where the primer went on in a "pebbly" manner. That made me sad. In fact, looking at those pictures again, I really butchered the look with all that sharpness. It looks fine on my old CRT at home, but on the flat LCD at work, it really looks boogered up.

Is registration for the RTT over? I had been thinking of bringing the girls out, but sort of forgot over the last few weeks. My plan was remarkably similar to yours: get schooled first round, cry into a pint of Haagen Daas, and then play a few fun games with the local flavor. Maybe I will have the marines done in time...

Pretty sure you can still sign up, I wasn't officially in until Sunday - and Dave I know wasn't on the list then, and I think he's playing still. Scary the names I didn't recognize on that list, though I am aware that RTT's bring out the cheesefests from far and wide :(

And recall it's 1500 points, I know you're a 2k Man usually

Hmmm yea the girls don't really "click" until 2000. Of course pulling the repentia and penitents would net about 450 points, and they don't offer much click, or boom for that matter.

Honestly, I know your name, and Daves. Everyone else is "Tau Kid," "Black Templars Guy," "Whiney Annoying Bastard" etc. I suspect everyone's name on the list will surprise me

Ok... so after more than a month... the boys are back.

Here he is... anchient beyond reckoning... wise beyond knowing, his passion for learned excellence overwhelming... with more victories in the field than any other commander... Cheif Librarian Paterno himself!
" border="0" />

And in progress:
" border="0" />
" border="0" />

Behold his stoic might!

I secretly love that picture with the disembodied head just sort of poking in.

Anyway, he is about 90% (I added another wire to his hood since these pics for balance.) I just am not certain he has everything going for him he needs. Any suggestions on little fiddly bits or things to spice him up a bit before I prime him? I was thinking maybe a waist tabard or some other random cloth, but I am a little stumped.

Ot: how did that RTT go Salvage? I wasn't able to make it.

As a PSU grad trapped in Buckeye country, you're an inspiration. Too bad TDA doesn't have pants, because his should be rolled up. Maybe greenstuff some cuffs on his greaves? Failing that, go the GW route - more skulls and purity seals!

Wooo! Someone gets it! I was wondering what the chances were someone from PSU plays 40k and reads Dakka...
Also, I think the cuffs on the greaves will be perfect. it will add some nice visual interest with some rivets or something. I hadn't thought about the cuffs till you mentioned it. For shame!

I actually thought about putting scrolls hanging from his neck like a tie, but it just looked over the top. A purity seal in the same place looked like Burt Reynolds with a little rope tie.

So those are sunglasses, right? Fun model either way, nice use of bitz.

Wehrkind wrote:OT: how did that RTT go Salvage? I wasn't able to make it.

RTT was ok, definitely got my $5 worth. My games were ...

Iron Warriors (Cleanse) -- Loss. Fairly boring game, both are armies are "decently shooty" CSM armies, which means lots of marines standing around with bolters doing nothing. T6 IW DP smashed through my backfield, costing me the draw. Didn't help that my dread, after getting its plasma blown off, fire frenzied TWICE into my lesser demonettes + lord.

Necrons (Kill 'Em All) -- Win. Fun + weird game, lesser demonettes walked all over the necrons! But again I learned how evil T6 is, with 3 spyders to chew through.

Necrons (Recon + Suicide Squad) -- Loss. Finally discovered how tough 'crons are. Only killed the monolith and a handful of immortals and the suicide warriors he gave me.

Yea, his signature shades. The white plasticard caps fell off and got lost in the rug, leaving the greenstuff that was holding them in place (usually I can't remove greenstuff with a knife and a drill... of course this time, when holding something weighing nothing, it didn't do the job.) The GS remnants look pretty fine though.

I am still a little sad I couldn't make it, but the past month and a half has been nuts. This Saturday I plan on coming down for a game though. Maybe we can get one in if there isn't a mega battle.

I was there from 90-94 and 95-96. I really like the color scheme, it doesn't feel forced and looks fairly natural. Rivets are a good call. Instead of a tie, maybe make it part of the psychic hood and just use some cabling? Seems like 82 and 86 need to be on the model. Maybe have him standing on a busted up heisman, or even just a chaos marine in Miami colors?

Maybe you need a chaplain with 68, 69, and 94 modeled on it to serve as the Litanies of Hate. "Three times, we went undefeated and didn't win a national title, brothers. Three times! Now channel that anger as you smite the heathens!"

APOC II: THE TITANING is happening Jan 26, and I'll be there for that. Otherwise I have to beg and plead for Saturday game days, but am allowed all the Friday night gaming I want. So I'll be at Portal tonight, and maybe next week, and maybe next week ... But not another Sat until 26. Last week apparently there were just a couple break out games, no mega (!!!), and looks like that might be the norm for a bit? There's a newbie playing marines now, who's coming regularly of late. Haven't met him meself ...

So, I am going to find your phone number and call you about this stuff. I am actually not much of a football fan. I went from 99-03, when they were REALLY hard to follow, and I never picked it up. I usually just sold my tickets early for the cash. I got a book "What it Means to be a Nitanny Lion" which I am going to pluck players from to put the names on each marine, and the scouts are going to have bases modeled after where each "sniper" on campus was (though I will likely run out, I can only think of 2 off hand, and it isn't something they advertize.) The litany numbers are DEFINITELY going on the chaplin. Did you see him on the first page? I scribled some lines on his crotch scroll, but the '68,'69.'94 is going there. Brilliant idea man! (I thought about scribing "We know not the God damned words!" on it, but I couldn't get the letters small enough to fit and be legible.")

Salvage: Maybe we can get some Friday games in. Shrew can't play weekends much, but Fridays are sometimes good. We can use my 4x8 table in my dining room if that is closer for you guys. By table I mean "peice of plywood over my diningroom table." At least until the basement is ready.

OMG an update!

So, the other day I went priming crazy and put some black on about 15 models. The first to get the gentle caress of a brush is Paterno, and the random Karskin I have had longer than just about any other figure.

First thing for Joe Pa was to put some Astronomicon Grey over everything to be white. <3 Foundations.

After the Grey I put a black wash over him, which is why it is darker in some places. I realized today when I went to start building up color that I mixed extender with the black instead of matte medium. I realized this because it was still wet in places, after 2 days. Plus side, I got to use what was left in the bottle cap on some other parts.

After that, a few hours of adding whites etc, and we are ~70% done.

Note that I am shamelessly ripping off Grey Death's lovely red to black fade on his power weapons. I think it is really conveys the "seething with power" look nicely.

Now, our friend the Kasrkin, the first to benefit from my painting binge.

About 20% done. Black on the plates, astronomicon grey on the cloth and brown boots, with the same black wash.

I am pretty well pleased so far. I rather like the way the figure is working out, and after a little detailing on the face to catch the scar/mold line right over his left eye, some highlighting on the plates and some metal bitz, he will be almost done.

And group shot.

Ready to defend my paint to the death!

Haha, you're not ripping anyone off ^_-, that's Dakka public knowledge for the greater good!!

Looking good so far, I do wonder if the white doesn't feel a bit thick though. It almost looks a bit chalky.

Oh and thanks to you mentioning Kasrkin, I've been toying with the idea of buying a squad...must...not...buy...

Both minis look great. But I do sorta see what grey_death means with the white. That forcehammer looks pretty cool.

But looking very good in the other shots too, nice work on white / red. The white does look a tad thick, but honestly it's been thicker on some of your earlier models so things are on an upward trend

In other news Boss Salvage painted a hand flamer last night, because a CSM of his needed a useless weapon swapped in. Goooo BS!

I am going to have to take a second look at the white when I get home. I thought it was so thin I was having to put 4-5 layers over a really light grey, but then looking at the primed+Foundation model, maybe one of those two added the rough texture.

In other news, I have been thinking of switching wholesale to Reaper paints. It's only 150$ for the case, right? Anyone have any input on that? (Grey Death, Salvage, Dave, I am looking at you.) They probably can't be worse than what I use now, but considering I have about 30$ invested in my current line of paint, 12$ of which is Foundation, I really would like them to be noticeably better.

Well, so I did a LOT of painting in the last two weeks. A lot more painting than posting at least. So... without further ado, the Man.

Complete with Force Weapon and Book of Plays.

And since his WIP started in this thread, the Kasrkin can finish his stowing away with Paterno.

There is also a Company Champion sitting in my basement, waiting for his Dullcote to dry so I can gloss up his sword. So fun things! But, wait, there's more (in a different thread).

The paintjobs are amazingly well executed...I have one question I'm slightly embarrassed to ask, though...Is Paterno supposed to resemble Elvis? (Sorry, not a Lions fan...who's he supposed to be?)

Paterno is the head coach at PSU. He is old enough to have gone to highschool with Elvis, give or take a few years.

Now that you mention it... I do kind of see it. hmmm Gives me ideas for an amusing Nurgle lord. Fat Elvis with bad sequins, and bits of a ham sandwich staining his suit.

*sigh* I don't know why I am still posting in the same forum as Lemmingspawn, but I suppose that since I don't have the will to simply burn all my minis and take up crochet, I will put up some more pics.

So, we have our Company Champ. What is he missing? I don't know. My wife thinks he needs more color on his breast plate. I am thinking he maybe needs more purity seals. I don't know. I do know I need a camera that is not so inclined to treachery. Of about 10 pictures, these are the only two where the camera didn't focus on the Calvin and Hobbes Omnibus I was using as background. I suppose I can't blame it.

I will try a few more pics later, and see if I can't figure out what is missing.
