Manchester, NH

Come back to Boston. Boston is awesome.

It is indeed more relaxed than NYC.

Great place for academics, research, and the medical field. It's culturally and intellectually vibrant, with more colleges and universities than any other city in the world, tons of theatres and theaters, music, art, etc.

It actually has a functional public transportation system (a rarity in New England).

And you're only a short distance from the ocean, and less than two hours' drive from the mountains. Less than that from woodlands suitable for hiking and camping.

Dowsides:

The city's laid out very poorly, and housing is expensive.

Snow (though less than we get in NH).

A rarity in the US, no less.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Colorado

I've traveled through quite a bit of the United States, and I find most of it lacking cause I always compare it to home, which is Colorado.

The mountains and all manners of recreation are but minutes away, the laws are chill, and the people are interesting. Our biggest problem is we have too many people moving here.

There's also lots of variety and choice. On the front slope You've got:

Boulder - Leftwing bastion, elitist and pretty expensive

Ft. Collins/Loveland - Consistently rated one of the best places to live in the states. Still retains it's small city charm though.

Denver - truly a world class city - but getting pricier.

Colorado Springs - Rightwing - best scenery in my opinion, and heavy military (some retired) presence, which makes for a lot of unique people. This afternoon my landlord's brother told me how he used to chase Ruskies all around Amsterdam in the '70s for the DoD while he was fixing my front door.

Anything west of there is pretty cool, smaller, much more expensive (think Vail), and lots more snow.

I've found consistently good gaming in all the major cities as well.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Virginia)

...consists of four closely packed cities or townships. Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk

Pros- mild climate if you dont mind the cold. (unlike you, I LOVE hot weather, Florida, Texas and such)

Striking distance for many gaming locales, 4 hour drive from baltimore and GW headquarters, South Carolina, DC. Lots of good gaming around here. Enough gamers in Hampton Roads to claim a fairly competetive atmosphere. (lots of peeps come from out of town expecting to roll our RTT's, they quickly get schooled) In short, living here in Hampton Roads (the four cities of which Virginia Beach is one) Its an Excellent gaming locale, probably the best I've experienced in 20+ years of gaming. At least on par with Chicago, I understand its great up there too.

There is a wide selection of Housing levels, everything from poverty striken hoods (portsmouth), to hoity toity huge free standing homes for rich a$$holes (virginia Beach) and everything in between (Norfolk and Chesapeake)

Any sort of shopping your little woman could want.

Cons- Commonwealth (I personally hate the way a commonwealth governs itself)

Traffic can be bad at times with 3 underground/water tunnels on certain routes to work. Any Urban area you'll run into this though.

If you are a criminal, I'm a lawman! Bang Bang!

On the rise as a gang pitstop. Not nearly as bad as areas of California or New York, but we seem to be growing in that department. Crips, Bloods, MS-13, excetera. Starting to be rather prevelant in the public schools around here.

Any more questions, ask away.

Hurricanes, I've lived here for close to 8 years and only seen one hit...rode it thru. No worries.

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

Los Angeles

Let me quickly plug LA.

Pro: urban sprawl capital of the world

Con: your home costs you your left nut

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

I'm suprised Chicago hasn't been mentioned yet. The city proper is beautiful and the Lake mitigates the temps and dangerous weather. Lots of big name hospitals, less traffic than the coasts and centrally located for easy travel in either direction.

Weather trends to both extremes though (this winter has
been pretty mild), cost of living in the city is starting to
get expensive (I suspect a crashing condo market might
change that around here), and, most importantly, if you
want to game anywhere if you have to drive and you have
to leave the city (though I haven't checked out that one
store that opened in November). We're also pretty bipolar
in that just because it looks affordable doesn't mean you
want to live in those areas.

What I love: the city, the city, the city. I'd probably love
it even more if I went to the theater.
