I would think 'rubble and stuff' would show a sufficiently 'dangerous' terrain.

As Kanluwen noted, Campaign: Paradiso takes place... everywhere.

A lot of people associate Campaign: Paradiso with 'jungle'.

This isn't the case - however, if you're keeping 'public perception' in mind, along with 'public voting', well...

It is up to you!

Yep, it is as Alph says.

The rules are vague so that the entries can be as varied and individual as possible. Think of the Jungle terrain as a base line if that helps.

As an example: 'rubble and stuff' isn't that dangerous compared to the killer alien plant life but it's still well within the rules. The judges will consider how well the entries have adhered to the rules so each entrant needs to decide how they want to go about things. So if you don't feel that your chosen terrain is going to cut the mustard then consider how you could make it more dangerous.

Out of curiosity, how do people feel about the vagueness of the rules so far? It'll be useful to know for future DPCs.
Do you like the range it gives you to be creative? Or do you find it too confusing?

Base size is the biggest thing for me right now. I have some good ideas, but I need to make sure it doesn't fall too far into the Diorama category.

It can become a 'diorama' this contest though, right?

Unless you're saying that you don't personally want to do a diorama?

I was asked about this via pm by someone too so here is some clarification:

Firstly, just use your judgement, it's honestly the best guide. Is the base so big I'm no longer focusing on the miniatures within it?

Last Infinity round there was a little divide of opinion with heartserenade's diorama base. This round I would consider that to be a relatively safe bet on size. Smaller would pull more focus on the miniatures, larger may sway that focus towards the terrain. It's quite objective but there is a goldilocks zone within each choice you make.

Bare in mind that going either side of the goldilocks zone might not be a safe bet but the risk might be worth it to execute your vision.

Hope that helps.

Which is understandable given that the 'theme' is the terrain of a dangerous warzone.
For all intents and purposes, the models themselves--per the wording--strike me more as the trimming rather than the focus.
The terrain of Paradiso isn't really something which seem--again, in my interpretation--to be able to be shown through simply adding on to your standard base.

Well, I see what you are saying, Kan, but the rules state that the miniatures should be the focus. The terrain is the trimming, the flavour, the decoration that sets this DPC apart.

You hit the nail on the head though, this is is all about interpretation. I designed the theme with this in mind, with all of the creativity on Dakka why bind you all down into one narrow path?

Honestly, I'm betting we are going to see some elegant single miniatures on standard bases, some teamwork dioramas and some heated duels on epic terrain. Oh and everything in between! I've got at least 5 ideas myself and I'm not even competing!

@Arakasi. This is the fated 3rd round! Let's give it our best shot!
Didn't you win the 1st round? Never fear - my best shot is already in progress...

@Thread: I think there is a fine line to be walked on how to balance both the focus on the miniatures, but also convey the dangerous terrain of Paradiso. I suspect the best outcome will be to focus on one (possibly two) aspect(s) of the dangerous terrain - too many will quickly either take the focus away from the miniatures (unless perhaps you incorporate them somehow), look forced, or both.

This is the first challenge that has really got me excited. Got a few ideas, trying to narrow it down.

I'm glad you're all excited for this one, remember to spread the word around Dakka!

I certainly don't envy the position of having to choose just one idea and commit to it!

I will try, that's for sure, but this time i'm going to be in a real rush. Last time it was really tight, let's see what happens now

I'm always around but in my TO camouflage mode xD. I'm too lazy to write in english on a daily basis, so that's why I stick to the spanish forum, with some random visit to the int'l one

Glad to hear it guys!

I've done a quick tally and it looks like there should be around 15 to 20 competitors already. Last time there was about 40 entries, I think we can beat that this year! If you have a blog please do announce the challenge to your readers and spread the word to your friends too if you can. The more the merrier!

You are welcome to copy and paste this text into your signature or blog post for ease :

And this is how that will look:

My model for the contest arrived today (I forgot how fast things ship here when you order from an Australian company), and I'm getting started this arvo/tomorrow on him! Very excited.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Dang dang bother and boo. I assembled and undercoated my model black before I remembered the initial picture (the pre assembly one). Is that ok? I really hope so, else I don't have any other new infinity models ha

More contestants, good stuff!

@motyak - Don't panic! The rules state:
3. Take a WIP photograph of your entry before painting.
So assembly is fine. As for the undercoat you've already given it:

I'll accept a standard miniature that has been primered as long as it's obviously not had any more done to it and as long as it's not already based.
So you are probably fine on that count too! I hope that solves the problem.

P.S. Anyone should feel free to email me their WIP progress picture if they are worried it'll be rejected. I'm happy to check it and give you the okay before you commit. However you will still have to send it in with your entry as per the rules.
